or at least 50 percent of them, apparently.
Before we get to Week 2 picks, which I’ll post either Thursday night or Friday afternoon, let’s take a look at how the Week 1 picks went. Week 1 lineup (6 wins and 6 losses and with Week Zero’s 3-0 start, I’m at 9-6 overall for the season)
Week 1
Wrong - Chico at Center-Antelope. Winner: Chico. Nope. Center won 20-18. A loss for the Panthers and me.
Wrong - Lassen at Pleasant Valley. Winner: PV. Faith in Vikings wasn’t rewarded as Lassen won 26-7.
Correct – Red Bluff at Oroville. Winner: Red Bluff. Spartans were sloppy but won.
Wrong – Paradise at Napa. Winner: Paradise. The Bobcats are 0-2. Stop the presses.
Correct – Las Plumas at Corning. Winner: Corning. Cardinals cruised in their home opener.
Wrong – Fall River at Biggs. Winner: Fall River. Biggs surprised many by beating a well-rested Fall River team.
Wrong - Durham at Clear Lake. Winner: Durham. Trojans didn’t fare well and are now at 0-2. This team has a bunch of returning starters, except, well one, head coach Kevin York.
Correct – Gridley at Willows. Winner: Willows. Honkers cruised.
Correct – Orland at Anderson. Winner: Orland. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
Wrong – Pierce at Hamilton. Winner: Pierce. Big win in Braves’ home opener. Guess we shouldn’t be surprised. The new blood acquitted themselves quite well, even if my picks didn’t.
Correct – Redding Christian at Princeton. Winner: Redding Christian. Redding Christian’s Hayden Piper had another big day.
Correct – Bonus: West Valley at Shasta. Winner: West Valley. Speaking of big days, Austin Clark ran for 352 yards on 12 carries as part of West Valley’s 612 yards rushing in a 41-7 romp at Shasta. Those stats aren’t typos. The Eagles ran for 612 yards on 38 carries for an average of 16.11 per carry. Clark averaged 29.33 yards per carry. Yowza.
