It’s the Money Stupid – Suggestion!

One suggestion I’ve come across for reforming our election system seems to be a pretty good one. I thought I would share it with you now and see what you think about it?

Limit the time period when politicians can engage in fund raising to the time they are not in regular session.

This would allow them to focus on their job as a legislator, not as a candidate out to raise money. Politicians have frequently told me they resent being forced to go on the campaign trail looking for contributions their whole career and they would appreciate the break.

This might help scale back some of the massive spending we see at election time. Speaking of the cost of running, you know it has become so expensive, most people can’t afford it. We’ve forced our candidates to start out beholding to certain special interest groups over their financial support and that at the very least, opens up the perception of corruption. How dumb are we to allow that one?

The ONLY obligation politicians ought to have is to the voters; not unions, not PACs, nor even the party’s. But, the reality is, special interest money is 75% or more of the total contributions. Then it’s hard for politicians to not give “ear time” to them for their issues. This is really an open door policy for the special interests, while the little voter can take a number and sit in the waiting room!

This system is broke folks, we need to fix it.
