HANDWRITING ON THE WALL

TGIF SPECIAL

Assemblyman Dan Logue, along with State Senator Sam Aanestad took a trip to Nevada to hear first hand from businesses that’ve fled California for the more “fair and business friendly confines” of that state. Aanestad’s press release stated “Considering California’s high taxes and heavy regulations, it’s no wonder that Nevada–a state without many of our cumbersome issues–is benefiting.”

oh Contraire, according to the Chico News and Review editorial. It states “the reality is that more business–including employees working for companies based elsewhere–is coming into California than is leaving.” It refers to Aanestad and Logue’s trip to Nevada as nothing more than a “dog and pony show.” (I’m sure that if Aanestad and Logue were Democrats, the News and Review would label their trip as a “fact finding tour by progressive lawmakers constantly looking out for the betterment of California.)

But the two lawmakers are Conservatives, and went to Nevada armed with a report from the Legislative Exchange Council of the Washington D.C.-based non-profit group that includes state lawmakers and private sector policy advocates. That report titled “Rich States -Poor States includes an Economic Competitive Index, and ranks California 43rd nationally.

The report cites “California’s high taxes, labor policies and a dysfunctional tort liability system as damaging to business.” It also noted that “California’s new tax increases are sure to make the state even less competitive in the future.”

Oh, and by the way, it was interesting to note the top five states: Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Virginia and north Dakota. Joining California at the BOTTOM of the barrel? New Jersey, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont and New York….all left-wing liberal states.

Kudos to both Aanestad and Logue for trying to make a difference. Hopefully, the information they gleaned can be passed on to others in our state legislature so they can all see the handwriting on the wall. Unfortunately, our state legislature is controlled by left-wing liberal democrats who have difficulty reading. That’s why this state will continue languishing in the bottom of the barrel until it gets some new legislators who not only know HOW to read, but understand WHAT they read.
