Dare To Be Eccentric!

What is it about these times that so few dare to be different? Nobody wants to stand out anymore and make a difference! Look at politics, it’s as bland as milk toast. Remember not so long ago when the GOP (the party once known for grand ideas and reform) owned the White House, Congress and the Senate and they didn’t do anything great or transforming. Instead they wasted 8 years as they doled out legislative pablum. They were given they keys to kingdom and nothing happened.

There’s been no sweeping change for the last two decades on anything that really mattered, unless you consider this new wave of socialism change that matters? That kind of change is taking us in the wrong direction. It’s incompatible with a free market economy. Sure, the short term is great for the masses, but the long term is an unresponsive big government that stifles individuality and keeps the masses in check, thats change that matters in a bad way. We don’t need that kind of change!

The only reason the left can get away with this now is because it promises to make life easier and this buys votes. That’s short term thinking, its the lazy way out and too many people are ready to take it. That’s what bothers me most. But, in the process of “getting” it also “takes” doesn’t it? It takes a little more of your wages for taxes, it takes a away a little more of your freedom because you owe more and have less choice where your money goes. It offers little in the way of motivation and even less for creativity. This is what you get more of with each new leftist safety net. Key word here is net, as in caught by.

Again, I have ask where are all the free thinkers, the artists, the innovators and the inventors? What has happened to America, are we that apathetic, that dumbed down, that compromised, that averaged out, that to be an eccentric entrepenuer is unwelcome? Have we lowered the bar so much that mediocrity passes for what was once a glorious free market that changed the world? I wonder about that and I wonder where we’ll be in a few decades into this dull road that leads to a government nanny state.

“That so few now dare to be eccentric, marks the chief danger of our time”. John Stuart Mill
