Glenn Beck, the baby-faced bad boy of the conservative movement, was recently asked by Katie Couric to clear up a statement he had made in which he accused President Obama of having “a deep-seated hatred of white culture.” When asked to define what exactly he meant by “white culture,” Beck–in what will surely be championed by his devotees as a bold defiance of “gotcha journalism”– completely refused to answer the question, and seemed as if he genuinely did not know what he meant by that statement. When asked if he stood by his original comments despite his inability to define his terms, Beck ironically emphasized that “Americans should ask themselves the tough questions.” Let’s hope the majority of Americans are less afraid of actually answering those tough questions than Glenn Beck is.
