As the world mostly ignores the role President Ronald Reagan played in the fall of the Berlin Wall I thought you might enjoy this tidbit:
“In May 1967, Ronald Reagan debated Robert F. Kennedy on national television. CBS broadcast it, and they believed it was watched by about 15 million people. ** Reagan, in that debate in May 1967, publicly called for the removal of the Berlin Wall. That was 20 years before the speech at the Brandenburg Gate. In fact, there are about 12 examples of Reagan calling for the Berlin Wall to be torn down publicly before the Brandenburg Gate speech in June of 1987.”
As the people of Germany commemorate this historic day, made possible through the relentless efforts of many courageous voices and acts of defiance, if behooves us to remember that liberty was the precious compelling urge prompting their efforts.
