The journey of a lifetime begins! Consider this day one of our plan to lose weight and get in shape. There is strength in numbers my friends, so if you know people interested in losing weight, buy all means, send them over here! All experts in the field of wieght loss are welcome to comment too – Soaps, feel free!

Actually yesterday could have been my start date, I ate pretty sensibly and I also boxed up the left over Christmas candy to be given away or it goes into the dumpster before the day is out. Next, I took stock of my food on hand. Actually, it wasn’t too bad nutritionally and calorie wise. Worst thing in my cupboard was nacho chips and shredded cheese in the fridge, but taken in small quantity, even that isn’t so bad. The main thing I’m trying to avoid is fat, sugar, bad cholesterol and salt. The main thing I’m trying to improve on is eating more veggies. For breakfast I had a glass of juiced veggies, tomato juice mostly with some spinach, celery and carrots. Tasted pretty good and it was filling. No, I did not strain out the fiber, that’s a really good part on several levels.

I appreciate the tips and please…keep them coming. It all helps me and others stay motivated.

Right now the sun is out, the ground is fairly dry, so I think this is a great time to take a walk. I’m one of the lucky ones that live almost adjacent to the north side of Bidwell park, so I think I’ll start today with a park walk, but nothing wrong with mall walking or neighborhood walking, etc. The thing we must do is be in motion, uh, no pun intended – this is the name of a popular Chico sports club. Just remember, a body that is in motion tends to stay in motion; a body that is sedentary tends to stay sedentary! Just walk..any where, any time. Okay, so get off that couch, get out of that easy chair, get out from behind that desk and let’s go! And feel free to report your progress to us.

Jack, I’m going to try to lose the weight with you.

I do drink several glasses of water a day that staves off some hunger, I need to get back into walking a little at a time, I am on oxygen and carry the tank, I used to walk 3 miles a day but been sitting on my butt too much lately.

I have a suggestion though, if we are supposed to help each other with this difficult task perhaps this post should stay on top, is there a way to get that done?
for the record, I will be 70 in April, I am 5.7 1/2, weight 180, a good 20 pound drop would be good.

Sheesh, Jack, you are packing on the pounds. The lsat time I saw your motorcycle it looked a lot bigger.

  3. Post Scripts says:

It’s all a matter of perspective, that is actually a full sized Harley FX…told you I need to lose weight!

Harriet welcome to the dieters club! But, we’re really not dieters, I think we should say we are life style changers. Diet’s don’t work – but, life style changes do.

  5. Harriet says:

Thanks, no diets alone do not work, but have to do it all, We do have to watch what and how much we eat plus walk and do whatever exercise we can.

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to wish you luck with your diets and give you a few ideas that have worked for me over my many dieting years.

Remove from the house all goodies. No snacks or deserts. If you absolutely have to have that ice cream, you have to be willing to get in the car or walk to buy one cup or cone.

Make a big pot of healthy vegetable soup and freeze it. Eat as much when you want as a meal or if you get hungry between meals.

The Water Test Diet. Before eating anything you must run it under the kitchen faucet. A piece of pie or cake doesnt look very appetizing after, but an apple sure does.

The S Diet. No Sugar except on Saturday, Sunday and Special days, like birthdays. (Lost 15 lbs. just doing this once.)

I also put pictures Id cut out of magazines on my bathroom mirror, refrigerator and food pantry of gorgeous women with long skinny legs wearing outfits Id love to be able to wear. Of course I cut their heads off so I could really fantasize looking like that. Im one of those visual women.Hey it worked. Just had to put up with my family and friends laughing and thinking I was nuts.

Also weighed myself every morning. Had to see the positive results from my previous days 5am workout, three Slim Fasts and two quarts of water.

Of course you know its all about the calories. Calories in versus calories out = eat les and move more.

Good luck, you can do it. Ive been on just about every diet ever dreamed up by myself and experts. Bet its been 30 years since I had my last bite of cottage cheese. Im gagging just thinking of it.

Hey, I have a really nice and big 2002 Heritage that would love to go for a run.

  8. Post Scripts says:

Actually I have a similar bike, the FXSTC, mildly customized with new paint, wheels, built up engine and lots of chromie things, …hasn’t been driven since January of 2009. Less than 20k miles, …let’s roll!

  9. Post Scripts says:

These are all really good tips, and I really liked the water test – the water test is an excellent idea! I am taking your advice to heart. Thanks Peggy.

  10. Peggy says:

Same here. Been years since I’ve taken it out, everything that could be chromed is and even put a custom Corbin seat and Harley mag rims on it. (Learned I had better things to do with my time than spending two hours cleaning spokes.)I traded in my ’96 Dyna Wide Glide for it after putting almost 80k miles on it and three engines rebuilds. Loved that bike! With just 10k on this one I never got used to the 16 inch wheels. Afraid the battery is deader than my last long-term heart break.

  11. Post Scripts says:

Peggie, when you’re ready for a battery let me know, I will help you and help with old gas cleanup so you can fire up the beast.

  12. Peggy says:

Wow, thanks. If I still have it this spring I just may take you up on the offer. I keep thinking I should get rid of it, but just can’t bring myself to doing it.
