What I have to realize is that the older we get, the harder it is to lose the weight. It’s a simple, yet frustrating, biological fact and there’s not a thing I can do about it. Our metabolism slows as we age, what a bummer. I read that in WWII when we were losing a lot of ships to subs, our older sailors tended to survive longer in lifeboats than the younger ones, thanks to their metabolism. That would be a plus if I expected be torpedoed, but I just want to lose weight and the quicker the better! It’s been discouraging when I’m doing all the right things (well, at least 98% of the time) and I haven’t lost what I thought I should after two weeks. (I’m bummed.)
In my case I refuse to look at the scales, but I’ve tightened my belt by 1 inch, so I guess that’s something. When I look in a mirror I think I still look the same, I can’t see any real change except for that belt notch. But, I must be reasonable. This is going to take time, it just might take longer than I expected. And I must remember this is a lifestyle change, so time shouldn’t be of any concern here. I’m eating healthier and it’s filling, so I really can’t say I am sacrificing anything and all the walking has been good too. I definately have more energy.
I’ve given myself 6 months to reach my goal, so doing the math if I have lost 1 inch of waistline in two weeks, lets see there’s 4 weeks in a month, so that’s 24 weeks give or take, then if I divide that by a factor of 2, that’s, uh,… 12 inches? Holy pork chops Batman…that would bring me down to where I was when I was 30 and running 10 miles a week! Suddenly I feel better. (The diet continues)
Good Job Jack. With your attitude you will achieve your goal, I have no doubt.
Don’t forget , if you do like sweets you can use splenda in place of sugar, you can cook with it as well.
I did post this somewhere else here not sure if you saw it. My hubby is diabetic and uses it, sometimes I do as well.

I remember Tina when she used to call Brice Sessions as I did, You called also and was interviewed if memory serves…
I just read an article about the body retaining water when starting a diet. Has to do with self-preservation. So, hang in there, cuz the inches are coming off and the scales will catch up.
Thanks Peggy and to Harriet, at the two week mark it gets a little tougher.
