Cap and Trade didn’t pass in Congress so the Obama administration has decided to bypass the legislative branch entirely and begin implementing stronger environmental standards by edict through the Environmental Protection Agency. The policy in question demands higher standards for all new or expanding power plants.
Presidential edict is a terrible way to manage laws governing the people’s businesses. I would think, as citizens of America, we should at least expect this president to treat all American businesses equally, but apparently under the new czarist rules some power plants are more equal than others:
Beltway Confidential – The Washington Examiner
The Obama administration will spare a stalled power plant project in California from the newest federal limits on greenhouse gases and conventional air pollution, U.S. EPA says in a new court filing that marks a policy shift in the face of industry groups and Republicans accusing the agency of holding up construction of large industrial facilities.
According to a declaration by air chief Gina McCarthy, officials reviewed EPA policies and decided it was appropriate to “grandfather” projects such as the Avenal Power Center, a proposed 600-megawatt power plant in the San Joaquin Valley, so they are exempted from rules such as new air quality standards for smog-forming nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
There was no announcement of similar projects that might be “grandfathered” in this manner. I suppose it could happen. One way or the other it is a bit of a bother that Mr. Immelt, CEO of G.E. and newly appointed jobs czar, has an exemption for his company’s project right out of the starting gate. Picking winners and losers is not, and should not be, the Presidents job. This is a prime example of a corporative relationship. It is not indicative of the free market system that is the American way.
So, where’s Superman when you really need him? Sorry kiddies, Superman is just for fun. this is deadly serious and only the American people can save the day! Anyone for TEA?
If you aren’t already involved, resolve to do so today. Begin to arm yourself with information and knowledge…the time to prepare for the 2012 election is now…and now…and now. At least it is if we ever expect to become a nation of equals again free to compete without government intrusion.
