A wounded Iraq war veteran and Columbia University freshman was jeered during a meeting about bringing ROTC back to the school, the New York Post reports.

Anthony Maschek, who received a Purple Heart after being shot 11 times during his time in Iraq and is wheelchair-bound, was hissed and booed at when he spoke in support of ROTC during the Feb. 15 town hall meeting. Some students shouted “racist” during Maschek’s testimony, during which he stated, “It doesn’t matter how you feel about the war. It doesn’t matter how you feel about fighting. There are bad men out there plotting to kill you.” (This was followed by a burst hysterical laughter from a group of females students sitting close to him – hear the tape.)

If there was justice in this world the students doing the mocking would be forced into the Army or Marines for just two brief years as front line soldiers and they would not be allowed back into any university until they finished their military obligation.

These snotty, spoiled, children of wealthy Americans will some day run this country and when they do I want them to have a deep sense of what it means to be a real American; a person that loves their country and has sacrificed to defend its freedom. We’ve seen what happens when we elect leftists with no notion of the kind of values and pride you get from military service, they are a shameful bunch, like Maxine Waters, Charlie Rangel,
Sheila Jackson-Lee, William Jefferson, and the list goes on. There’s no guarantee that a veteran wouldn’t do something stupid or disgraceful while in office, its just that the odds are improved when they have that (Vet) following their name.

This is what happens when these snotty spoiled children get to school.

When they get out of school, it gets worse:

Last week, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) unveiled a plan to cut $400 billion in federal spending, and included a controversial target. The Tea Party favorite proposed freezing the Veterans Affairs Departments health care spending and cutting veterans disability benefits. Her plan sliced $4.5 billion from the VA and reduced 150,000 veterans disability compensation and the amount they receive in Social Security Disability Income. Veterans groups blasted the proposal as totally out of step with Americas commitment to our veterans, and as something that shows contempt for American servicemembers sacrifices. Democrats outside her state even began targeting Bachmanns proposal; Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) wrote her a letter which said her ideas were a giant step in the wrong direction. After days of similar criticism, Bachmann has finally retreated and withdrew that part of her spending reduction proposal today:

    Eh, but whaddya gonna do?

    NObody likes veterans.

Well there you go…see why its good to have some veteran’s experience behind you. It helps you make better decisions.

This is a story about liberal students, misguided by their college professors, treating a veteran poorly for his beliefs. Leave it to our resident congressional death threater to twist it into an attack on a Republican.

Bachman proposed over $400 billion in cuts to the federals government. The cuts to some veteran health services totalled about $4.5 billion. What’s more, these were cuts to duplicative services where social security was also covering the same services. The idea to cut the duplicative spending came from a report by the CBO (Congressional Budget Office).

From what I understand now, veterans groups were pretty vocal against the proposal and Bachman has dropped it from her spending cuts plan. However, she and other Republicans who have vowed not to support raising the debt ceiling have been proposing a lot of cuts to government spending, while the democrats and the government class seem to hold all public spending sacred.

Cutting $4.5 billion in duplicative spending doesn’t seem all that extreme to me. As a veteran who was told by Chico State that any amount of GI Bill money I received would be equally cut from any CA state college assistance, I didn’t protest or chain myself to a tree. I was grateful for the help I got and I moved on. More Americans should do the same.

Jack these kids aren’t just spoiled they are rude, disrespectful and clueless. Your prescription for a cure is right on the money! Toss their buts into boot camp!

Heads up on Rangel: He is considered a war hero, having served in the Army in Korea, and he has also come out in favor of a draft.

As for Michelle Bauchman’s proposal to cut veterans benefits she was only proposing something that everyone, especially the left, has said Republicans wouldn’t do…touch their sacred cows.

We either want (need) to make big budget cuts or we don’t…which is it guys?

Personally I’d like to take every single frivolous or useless program, grant and subsidy and dump that money into veterans care. At least we would get real value for the money.

Here’s how our government thinks about some of this money:

As the recession carries forward, there are many people who have been financially affected. When your wallet begins to get thinner, you need to start looking for some alternative ways to get financing. … A government grant is the best kind of money that you will ever get. … The best part about government grants for individuals is that you dont have to repay the money. There is no hidden fees or ballooning interest rates that you will often encounter with predatory lenders. Unlike traditional lenders who are out to make a profit, government grants are designed to give people the assistance they need, which improves the economy as a whole.

I love and appreciate our veterans! I also believe there would be sufficient monies available, if we managed our money well, to care for our vets.

Steve–“This is a story about liberal students, misguided by their college professors, treating a veteran poorly for his beliefs. Leave it to our resident congressional death threater to twist it into an attack on a Republican.”

Steve, I don’t approve of Quentin’s previous threats or his tactics most of the time, but here he was right on the money. A bunch of college kids booing someone is not news. A powerful congresswoman planning on cutting important services is a much more pressing subject, and should have been given priority over this non-story from the beginning.

  7. Post Scripts says:

Sadly Chris, in general terms you’re right about this being a fairly common event. However, the disrespectful treatment of a disable war veteran is a new low even for them. They’re childish, petulant and probably long overdue for good spanking. Too bad their parents didn’t teach them civility and courtesy in their younger years. I can’t imagine this behavior happening to a disabled veteran from any generation prior to the 1960’s. I think people back then were just raised differently (better). IMHO, Chris you are excepted from my criticism, clearly you’re not like that at all and kudo’s to your parents for raising a good son we can all be proud of!

  8. Harriet says:

I think harrasing anyone because of disability is terrible, leave politics out of it, it is just a mean thing to do and does not speak well of those who do it, Harrasing a War Veteran is even worse.

  9. Steve says:

Chris you have a good point about the size of the story, but I don’t think Jack and Tina should neglect smaller stories only for larger ones.
As a veteran who attended Chico State, a school that unceremoniously kicked out the ROTC before I got there, I think the issue of universities showing no respect for our military is a pertinent one.
The other story does deserve some time, I stated my opinion on that as well.

  10. Quentin Colgan says:

Leave it to the “leader” of the Republican party to attack me over something he imagined that isn’t even germane to this discussion. come to think of it, he has NEVER responded on point.
Well, as my kids tell me, you can’t argue with the truth.
Steve? Perchance are you Tina’s teacher? Because that would explain a LOT.
Y’know Steve, if you were better at your job, that is, if you had decent arguments that would even pretend to counter those awful truths o’ mine, Butte County would be red!
Not to worry, the end of your fascist rule is coming! FREEDOM is coming, Steve! It’s spreading around the world and it won’t be long, now! Hope you got a day job, Brother!

  11. Steve says:

Quentin you wouldn’t know the truth if it bit you. But freedom is coming, you got that right. It’s coming for the taxpayers who for too long have shouldered the burden of the public employee unions and their democrat lackeys. It’s starting in Wisconsin, but it will reach California eventually. People everywhere just wanna be free you know.
