Permission to Build Takes A Long Time in CA

Do you think the following has anything to do with the state of California’s faltering economy? In most states is takes 6-10 weeks to process all the paperwork involved in opening a franchise burger joint, but in California it’s 8 months on average.

On a local note I wanted to do a little in-fill, building income property on vacant lots in Chico residential zoned for that purpose. One lot in particular seemed about right, but before making an offer I submitted my plans and was told no way, I needed more lawn space? It had a green border and all the setbacks but it didn’t meet the city formula for lawn square footage. Needless to say the construction never happened.

Makes you wonder who’s is in charge, my guess is its a select few in government. We’re just here to follow their wishes.

If you had wanted to open something like Abortion/Needle Exchange, not only would it already be up and running but they would have built it for you.

It should take as long, and be just as onerous, to get on welfare as it is to get a building permit.

I forget where that quote came from, but it’s just as wise today as ever. It should be carved in stone next to the constitution.

Donating cash doesn’t seem to help, either.
    Chico is totally surreal.
For example, the guy who just got 8.8 million from the “liberals” on the city council only donated to the “conservatives” that voted against giving him money.

    Odd, isn’t it?
