President Obama had a lot of clever things to say to his mostly Latino constituents on the subject of immigration reform when he was in Texas the other day. He was having a great time, smiling and laughing with the folks at the expense of his opponents. One of the more dirisive remarks earned him a cutting response…

Source: Daily Caller.

The President:

“Maybe they’ll need a moat. Maybe they want alligators in the moat.”

RepublicanRep Joe Walsh:

“When you consult with Latino Hollywood celebrities such as Eva Longoria and Rosario Dawson wanting their take on immigration reform, you aren’t serious. When you sit down with the SEIU and other union leaders to get their take on immigration reform, you aren’t serious. When you threaten to sue border states that are only doing what the federal government won’t do, you aren’t being serious. And, finally, when you bring up ‘immigration reform’ for political reasons – to fire up the folks on the left as the election season nears – you aren’t serious … When it comes to securing our borders, enforcing our immigration laws and holding businesses accountable to hiring illegal immigrants, Mr. President, I, like many of my Republican colleagues, am serious. And if it would take introducing legislation to build a moat with alligators in order to secure our borders to get you to be serious on the topic – I’m game.”(emphasis mine)

Hmmmm…They’ve got a real critter problem with all that floodin’ in the South…could be some of them water moccasins would like to relocate!

  1. I think the word you’re looking for is “bait”.

So, you’re saying you’re NOT satisfied with all the president has done so far on immigration. You’re saying that even though he has done ALL you asked him to do, you’re still going to complain.
Of course, the complaint about the president not being serious about border security has been made before. It’s back in your archives. It is the exact same complaint I made when Bush was president.
    Read it.
Then read your response to it.
The tell us WHY you are 180 degrees from the position you formerly held.
    You crack me up, Tina!

    Thanks Spelling Gator…it’s been corrected!

You crack me up too Quentin because I can always count on you to misrepresent the point of my posts. Most of the time you end up arguing with yourself.

What is posted above is an accurate description of the Presidents demeanor in Texas…he was enjoying himself…he was making jokes at the expense of his opponents. Those few remarks are followed by a quote by the President and a response by a Republican Representative.

I didn’t express an opinion at all.

Can you read and comprehend? I mean honestly!

The following is an excerpt from a letter sent to the President and others in DC from people who live along the border of Mexico:
    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/13/exclusive-border-community-organizing-petition-protest-obamas-immigration/

“Seizure of record quantities of drugs may pad the statistics of Homeland Security, but it does nothing to ease the burdens we have been forced to bear. Over the years, as our homes have been burgled or invaded, our fences, water lines and windows repeatedly broken, our businesses driven toward bankruptcy, our natural surroundings desecrated by trash and fire, and our lives even obliterated (neighbor Rob Krentz, murdered by a drug scout), it has amazed us how little note is taken of these tragedies by our government and the press,” the letter reads.
“Is it enough, now that we have suffered back-to-back fires that threaten to erase our very reasons for living here? What must we say or do to garner your attention and help? How is it that, on the same day we took Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, we could not prevent illegals – 50 miles within our borders (!) – from setting a fire along a known smuggling route in an extremely dry year? Why were federal agents (BP, ICE, National Guard, or Special Forces) not posted along this route in anticipation of a repeat of last year’s calamity? Better still, why were the illegals not captured before they had traveled 50 miles north of the border?! Or, in the eyes of our government, do we just reside in a ‘sacrifice zone’?”
The letter also describes the devastation the fires have caused to the areas unique biodiversity, which attracts bird-watchers and naturalists from around the world.
The petitioners then asks the president to outline how he plans to fulfill his obligation to protect their constitutional right to defense from foreign invasions “especially as this regards fires set by Mexican drug and human smugglers.
