A Brief Look at Congress (and the President)

Some might call this a good thing: Congress can’t seem to agree on anything and this means nothing is getting done – no meaningful legislation is being passed. It’s become a total dud. But, is this just my crankie opinion from years of being a disappointed taxpayer or is it something shared by others of some note? A recent article from the Economist said, “AMERICA’S legislature has become something of a joke in recent years, a place where good ideas go to die, and where decent policies go to be twisted into something incomprehensible.”

Said more eloquently than I said it, but pretty much the same sentiment. Now lets take a look and feel free to jump in here and add your thoughts:

War and Foreign Aid: Congress has no plans for extracting us from Afghanistan and they have no thoughts on stopping the billions going to nations that hate us, like Pakistan.

Immigration: They’re still pouring across the border. Deportations are nil and sanctuary cities still flaunt the law. States that try to enforce federal law are rebuffed. Immigration reform – where is it? I sure don’t see anything meaningful happening. We’re overrun and it’s costing us billions for illegals to be here.

Energy: Congress has no energy solution to relieve the high pump prices and dependency on foreign oil. Every president for the last 5 administrations was going to solve the dependency on foreign oil problem. Ha! Their current energy plan consists of a few windmills and corn based ethanol. To put it bluntly, their energy plans suck!

Deficit: Nothing has been accomplished that will bring down the skyrocketing deficit…just a lot of BS. All they’ve come up with are some token gestures that aren’t worth diddly squat.

Tax Reform: There’s been no tax reform, they have no simple way to pay our taxes, but they did manage to dream up a windfall tax on domestic oil companies and a 3% penalty tax on anyone making over a million a year.

Pork: There’s been nothing done about pork spending. And this also means absolutely nothing done about government waste, fraud and abuse.

Foreign Policy: Bribery and appeasement. Go along to get along is not a policy.

Remember Obama was going to stop the earmarks/pork? In 2009 he approved 7.7 billion in pork. In 2010 Congress created and the President approved, 9,000 pork projects costing you $16.5 billion. If you would like to see a list of the top 13 pork projects, follow this link.

Looks like this Congress is overrun with worthless wimps and self-serving crooks and liars…again.

There’s no leadership, no creative thinking, just the usual absurd posturing for the media. I’m thinking we should vote them all out and start over.
