    When ever I see a Walmart, I am reminded of a skit I heard on a radio talk show. It was right after Bob Dole lost to Clinton. The radio host said that Bob would be OK, because of his old war injury he could get a job working at Walmart as a greeter at the door. He then said this in a voice that was a perfect imitation of Bob Dole,

    “Welcome to WalMart”

    I get alot of these from my sister in Kansas. She moved to Kansas because you can buy a 5 bedroom house for about $100,000. She immediately got a job with the county and is now a social worker – she drives miles every day checking on shut-ins, making sure they take their medication, eat, get a bath, etc. She makes less than $40,000/year plus about 90 cents a mile. She’s happy as a clam.

    She knows I shop at WalMart. She shops at WalMart. We all shop at WalMart (everybody sing!) In fact, I need to get over there for butter and eggs and underwear. Don’t you just love a store where you can get all the important stuff in one shopping cart?

    And meet people – I never go into WalMart without meeting some person who manages to make my day one way or another. The workers are always real nice, not Raley’s nice.

    I’ll tell you what, I never meet WalMart workers who live in Chico – where in Chico could a WalMart worker afford to live? They could live in a Randall Stone project in Chico, or they could live on 5 acres in O-ville. Which would you choose?
