See the campaign ad at Real Clear Politics. RCP refers to Jim Geraghty of NRO who suggests that the taping of this ad at the White House may be a violation of Federal Election Laws. Campaign business cannot be conducted on federal property…it’s a no no!
Hmmm…is this just another presidential goof…sloppiness…or brazen disregard for the rules?
Well my first opinion of the AD is that Obama is once again selling the White House as a vote gimmick. I do believe what he is doing in this incidence is tack less, let alone within the scope of FEC regulations, but that never seems to be his concern, now does it!
My second thought was which course of dinner was to be SERVED to his highness and company by the raffle winner. After all, are we not all here just for his benefit. Hope it works in well with his wifes travel plans.
Tina it should be clear to all by now, rules and laws do not apply to Obama.
That’s pretty bad – this is against the law and they knew better or if they didn’t they sure should have. These guys are not presidential material.
Bet Libby will be all over this gaff, just like she was with Bachman’s gaff that she pointed out, because Libby is NOT PARTISAN at all, right?
This is an ad for the dinner–not the campaign. He does not state why anyone should vote for him. He is not campaigning.
With all the lies you guys told about Measure A, when the heck did you start caring about honesty anyway?
America will continue to suck after the next election because at NO time during this election will anyone talk about the issues. It will be a game of gotcha. We will waste a bunch of time talking about “57 states” and Paul Revere. All the while, NOTHING will be done about the debt!
That is the problem. The solution would be to be intelligent and HONEST about the campaign.
‘Tis too bad, Post_Scripts will continue to be part of the problem, and do NOTHING towards solving the problem.
Q: “This is an ad for the dinner–not the campaign. He does not state why anyone should vote for him. He is not campaigning.”
But you’re not a lefty sympathizer or a partisan…right?
It’s a campaign fund raisinfg ad!
“‘Tis too bad, Post_Scripts will continue to be part of the problem, and do NOTHING towards solving the problem.”
Post Scripts is a public forum where we discuss items that make the news, items of importance, items of irrelevance, items of silliness, items of great seriousness.
Since you have such high expectations of the rest of us you must feel you are the example to follow. Well…I hereby put YOU in charge of comments that reflect seriousness and proper concern for the state of the country. (With Jacks approval of course)
I expect that from now on all of your postings will be brilliant, transformational and cause major shifts in our shared experience of the America you envision. Time to perform…Jack and I will be busy posting your comments to the front page…THAT’s how brilliant you will be from now on…right?
Didn’t he say “may be” a violation? You know why he said that? Probably because the footage in the ad was shot during official business, and not specifically for the ad, and so not a violation at all.
Mr. Geraghty is just stirring the pot, which it is his job to do.
On the other hand, an incumbent candidate making a show of his incumbency is definitely against the spirit of the legislation. Tsk.
I just read the rest of the posts. I didn’t actually look at the ad. It’s not a campaign ad?
Remember, I’ve been off the cable for eight years now, and I still, highly recommend it.
Then you don’t have to be fussed by all this stuff of dubious cosmic significance.
Libs: “Didn’t he say “may be” a violation?”
Yes that would be the responsible thing since he is not someone who makes an official charge of wrong doing but is simply raising the question.
“… the footage in the ad was shot during official business, and not specifically for the ad, and so not a violation at all.”
Huh?
The footage was shot for purposes of fundraising for the next election. The footage was shot in the WH. The law specifically states it is a violation to conducting campaign business on government property.
Off cable for 8 years? I think that is very laudable of you Libs,
