White lie, a euphemism for such lies as one finds it convenient to tell, and excuses himself for telling. – Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)
The president is a man of gestures not of action. He makes statements designed to make people happy but there is no follow through. One example is in his yammering on energy production in the Gulf. Back in May, as gas prices soared, he came before the American people and made an announcement that he had directed his administration to ramp up U.S. oil production by extending existing leases in the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately not much has happened.
It’s been eclipsed somewhat in recent months by the continued stagnation of the economy and the increasingly loud Republican presidential nomination battle, but the energy crisis caused by President Obama’s Permatorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is just as serious as it ever was.
And it’s going to get worse if something isn’t done soon to lift the bureaucratic strangulation being applied to the oil and natural gas industries by Obama’s Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.
We at Post Scripts are more than happy to share the above video brought to you by the Offshore Marine Service Association.
Unfortunately when government has shown itself to be ineffective, and when it causes more problems than it solves, it becomes necessary for the people to take matters into their own hands just as the folks at this association have by creating this video. Like many of us they have seen in their own backyards what takes place when the Washington bureaucracy runs counter to the needs of the people.
A separate Washington Examiner article describes the extent to which Mr. Salazar is blowing smoke:
Salazar claims oil production in the Gulf of Mexico has remained at “an all-time high” despite the Deepwater Horizon disaster and the federal moratorium and permatorium that have stopped all deepwater drilling activity, put thousands of people in Texas, Lousiana, Mississippi and Alabama out of work, and kept the region’s energy economy mired in a deep recession.
But according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration, Gulf oil production has dropped nearly 300,000 barrels per day since the Deepwater Horizon tragedy.(emphasis mine)
This administration has all kinds of tools at the ready to help American industry create jobs. Instead, Obama, along with likeminded cohorts in Congress, has chosen to continue in the quest to “fundamentally transform” this great nation.
I SAY…IF YOU WANT JOB CREATION…VOTE THEM ALL OUT IN 2012.
Excellent blog post Tina.
Re: “The president is a man of gestures not of action.”
Precisely. America bought an orator, not a leader of the greatest nation in the free world.
Thanks Pie…and now…
Quentin: “What percentage of gulf oil production is represented by that 300,000 bbl/day? How many jobs, if any, are affected by the loss? That is some information we could use.”
What, pray tell, would you do with it?
I’d say what is important is that permits are not forthcoming as promised!
All the talk was just a ruse!
Production is down…does the percentage matter in the overall ugly picture?
Rigs have left the gulf permanently; jobs have been lost, some of them pernmanenly; revenues to our government are lost; revenues to state and local governments have been lost; related and support businesses are also hurt!
And all of it unnecessary!
Let’s hear from some of the folks affected, shall we?

Restaurants, grocery stores, and retail are all hurt.
And all of it is unnecessary!
If the Prez really wanted to create jobs in this country, all he would have to do is lift his dumb moratorium on drilling.
He evidently is convinced that jobs will magically materialize just because he says so. Just think about what’s happened with Solyndra since our Prez so heavily touted that company. . .
But then, what do you expect from someone who has never held a real job?
