One arrest has been made in the early morning breach of EGT’s grain terminal at the Port of Longview, according to a bulletin from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.
Ronald Patrick Stavas, 45, of Kelso was arrested Monday night after he was reportedly identified one of the suspects who entered the facility, assaulted a guard, and vandalized rail cars on Sept. 8, the bulletin said.
Stavas was taken into custody without incident by Longview Police members of a Sheriff’s Office joint investigative team, which includes Sheriff’s deputies, Kelso, and Longview Police.
Stavas was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on suspicion of four felony charges: burglary in the first degree, assault in the second degree, intimidating a witness and sabotage. At his initial appearance in Cowlitz County Superior Court Tuesday morning, his bail was set at $50,000.00. He remains in custody at this time.
A woman was also arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass for blocking the train, a misdemeanor charge. The Sheriff indicates that more arrests will be forthcoming as the investigations continue.
The dispute centers around a claim by the grain company that it is not obligated to hire Longshoreman. A lawsuit is pending but won’t be settled until next year. Workers are being escorted into work in the interim.
Evidently the kidnappers who took guards as hostages have not yet been caught. Maybe they wore masks or stockings over their heads.

Oh, those poor, oppressed Longshoremen in Seattle and Tacoma!
Like Jimmy “Let’s Take These Of Bitches Out” Hoffa said, “We like a good fight. And you know what, they got a war and they got a war with us and theres only going to be one winner and its going to be the workers of Michigan and America. Were going to win that war.”
