A report out of the Los Angeles Times may offer hope for California’s near dead economy and bloated state budget. A group calling themselves “Think Long” will propose radical changes to our tax code. Details will not be available for a few weeks but the players are interesting and include industry tycoons as well as past governors (with less than stellar records). These guys may be in this in an attempt to redeem themselves as much as boost state revenues. See what you think:
The group’s plan is based on a reshuffling of California’s tax system. It would lower the state’s personal income and sales tax rates and create a new levy of more than 5% on services that are not currently taxed, such as legal work or accounting.
Think Long spokesman Nathan Gardels said members want to “maintain California’s progressive tax system.” Under their proposal, families earning up to $45,000 a year would pay no state income tax, while those making up to $95,000 annually would pay 2%. This would lower some taxpayers’ obligations significantly.
The group also wants to double the current exemption for homeowners and renters on their state income tax and eliminate most other California income tax credits.
I didn’t see any suggestions in the article for cutting the bureaucratic fat. If none exist the plan is highly suspect in my opinion. We’ll see; Awnuld and Grey Davis are involved.
Awful Governator and Gray “Recall” Davis are involved?
I don’t expect much.
Anyone remember why Davis was recalled? Here is a memory tickler.

Memory Lane is more depressing the second time around! Thanks Pie for the grAy Davis record review!
You feeble dweebs. If you’d just ponied up for your freakin “Denali”, your “Toureg”, your “S-Class”, we would not be here.
“I didn’t see any suggestions in the article for cutting the bureaucratic fat.”
Well, until they include major salary cuts and employees paying more of their benies, I don’t even want to hear it. Look at these state parks salaries, look at how much they went up between 2009 and 2010:

This is why I will not get involved in the efforts to “save” Bidwell Mansion.
Wonderful. Another way to drive businesses out of CA. What a really forward-thinking idea.
Memo to the Gov & Legislature: Before any more new taxes, let’s CUT SPENDING! CA has become just like the Feds in that it can’t seem to live within its means.
The once Golden State has turned to rust . . . .
J. Soden: WE absolutely must cut first and prove we have adults in charge of the money because giving more tax money to the adolescent spenders in Sacramento will only exacerbate the problem.
Re Libbya’s: “You feeble dweebs. If you’d just ponied up for your freakin “Denali”, your “Toureg”, your “S-Class”, we would not be here.”
Too funny. I already thought Libby was way off the deep end. Now this.
People should “pony up” (turn automobiles over to the state) and thta would have prevented California’s pending bankruptcy.
OK

BINGO!
Well, it’s not surprise to me that you can’t fathom the sense in it. It is largely based on Gray’s original proposal for Hummer drivers to pay in proportion to their cost to society … which you threw over for Arnold’s … what was it?
Not paying at all … yes, I think that was it.
Dweebs.
