Elizabeth Warren – Do as We Say, Not as We Do

“Tax the rich” is a favorite Democrat talking point these days and yet, given the opportunity, none of those in the Democrat Party that actually have wealth wish to part with even one thin dime more. Warren Buffet smirked when advised that he could just make a donation, “That’s not how the system works.” A quick perusal of President Obama’s tax return last year reveals that his effective tax rate was 20%; a rate that is likely less than his secretary’s. As we discovered after the last election a number of Democrats serving under the President have, to put it mildly, back tax issues with the IRS. It would seem with Democrats paying a fair share is optional!

Today the Washington Free Beacon reports the following:

Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren favors higher taxes on multi-millionaires like herself, but when given the chance to personally contribute more on her state tax return, she declined.

The Boston Herald’s Joe Battenfeld reported (via Twitter) on Friday that after weeks of dodging the issue, Warren confirmed that she did not elect to pay a higher tax rate in Massachusetts.

The state’s tax return gives taxpayers the option of paying a higher rate of 5.85 percent, as opposed to the standard rate of 5.3 percent.

I see a pattern here and I think it springs from the elitist mindset and the presumptive attitude that Democrats know better how to spend other people’s money. As I recall, President Clinton actully said as much. If President Obama and his wealthy progressive Democrat friends were serious about paying their fair share they would, in true leadership fashion, take the lead and just pay more. Instead it’s, Do as we say not as Wwe do”. I hated that stuff as a kid but it’s even more offensive coming from smarmy, elitist, tax-and-spend progressives like Elizabeth Warren and company.

Guess what? If it looks like a hypocrite, talks like a hypocrite and walks like a hypocrite….it’s a hypcrite.

Here is Scott Brown and his aid’s reaction to Warren’s attack on him for not supporting the Buffett rule while not living by the very standards she demands of others.

If just ALL the Deomcrats would just pay what they owe instead of expecting the rest of us to pay their share too we won’t have to the raise anyone’s taxes. Shouldn’t be able to hold an elected position if back taxes are outstanding.

After Hitting Scott Brown on Buffett Rule Opposition, Elizabeth Warren Admits She Didnt Pay Higher Taxes:

Senate challenger Elizabeth Warren opted not to voluntarily pay higher taxes to the state of Massachusetts, prompting Republican Sen. Scott Brown to label her a hypocrite after she blasted his opposition to President Barack Obamas Buffett rule.

Warren, a Democrat, said Friday she didnt pay a higher income tax rate on her Massachusetts tax return. The state gives taxpayers the option of paying 5.85 percent, rather than the standard 5.3 percent rate.

I paid my taxes and I did not make a charitable contribution to the state, Warren said, according to the Associated Press.

Warren criticized Brown for voting against the so-called Buffett rule last week, which would have required millionaires to pay at least 30 percent of their income in taxes. In a statement, Browns campaign said Warren, the first director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, was essentially refusing to put her money where her mouth is.

The problem with running a campaign based on self-righteousness and moral superiority is that you had better live up to the same standard you would impose on everyone else, Brown campaign manager Jim Barnett said. Millionaire Warren lectures others about their obligation and responsibility to pay higher taxes, but she refuses to pay the optional higher rate available in Massachusetts.
