Romney Victory – “A Better America Begins Tonight”

I looked for a written article that adequately described Romney’s speech after winning five primaries last night. AP wrote a milk toast piece that gave me the ho-hums so I looked across the pond.

The Daily Mail:

Mitt Romney last night turned a famous Democratic slogan against President Barack Obama by telling his opponent that Americans would not be diverted by peripheral issues this November: ‘It’s still the economy… and we’re not stupid.’

The warning to Obama was a deft re-working of Bill Clinton’s 1992 dictum, coined by his campaign chief James Carville and hammered home at every opportunity in that election: ‘It’s the economy, stupid.’

Romney, who comfortably won five primaries in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut,, Rhode Island and Delaware, used a victory speech in Manchester, New Hampshire – a key swing state and the first primary state Romney won – to shift the focus towards Obama.

More Romney:

“Four years ago Barack Obama dazzled us in front of Greek columns with sweeping promises of hope and change,’ he said. ‘But after we came down to earth, after the celebration and parades, what do we have to show for three and a half years of President Obama?”

“Is it easier to make ends meet? Is it easier to sell your home or buy a new one? Have you saved what you needed for retirement? Are you making more in your job? Do you have a better chance to get a better job? Do you pay less at the pump?”

“Americans have always been eternal optimists, but over the last three and a half years, we have seen hopes and dreams diminished by false promises and weak leadership. Everywhere I go, Americans are tired of being tired.”

Apparently Romney also said something like, on the economy President Obama has done his best but America can do much better.

Students take note: Unemployment for young people is now the highest on record.

President Obama has shown he can’t make the economy work for most Americans. He can’t do it because he doesn’t know what makes the economy work. His policies are designed to pick winners, a select few, and that means a lot of Americans are losers.

President Obama specializes in community organizing. That’s a job that trains people how to demand stuff. The economy won’t grow and opportunities will not emerge from a gaggle of whiney demanding robots crying for handouts. It takes grown up folks that are willing to work hard and take risks to grow the economy and create job opportunities.

Romney knows how to grow a business and how that makes the economy expand. He knows because he has done it himself and he has helped others to do it too.

America needs a man that knows how to spark innovation, enthusiasm, and risk taking; of the two current candidates, Romneys the man!

I think I like him ok, I mean Romney. At first I didnt and last election i voted for obama. I read that romney was forced to go along with a few tax increases in Mass. because of the liberals but he also did a lot of cutting of waste so if you look at everything he did he did a pretty good job. it does not both me at all about his religion.

I think Obama made a big mistake on this matter of Tryavon martin and also Holder did too. Hispanic people are thinking this was very racist of them to take the side of martin before they knew what evidence was out or anybody really knew what was up you know what i mean? This is I think going to hurt Obama in the election with Hispanic people. I know a lot of Hispanic people are mad because of the way this was handled it was not right and it looks racist to me. Thank you for allowing me to comment.

Romney’s website has the speech transcript if you want to read the whole thing since the media can’t be bothered to report news anymore

I’m not a fan of Romney, but as they say at Free Republic, we need to use November to focus down ballot and “pour on the tea!”

Romney is toast. I think conservatives are generally narrow minded and ignorant but one thing they don’t do is waiver on what they believe no matter how wrong it is. Supporting Romney for them is like taking antibiotics. Nobody likes them, but when you have an infection not taking them is worse.

Take a look at this POWERFUL video. One of the best I’ve ever seen. Should be required viewing by every voter.

“I think Obama made a big mistake on this matter of Tryavon martin and also Holder did too. Hispanic people are thinking this was very racist of them to take the side of martin before they knew what evidence was ….”

Arturo … all Obama, and the rest of us, want is for the evidence to come to trial … which can’t happen if the doofus is never booked, and brought to trial. Zimmerman concedes he killed the young man. That’s homicide, and a triable offense … if, after all the proper procedures are followed, the DA decides to prosecute.

  6. Tina says:

Libby: ” Zimmerman concedes he killed the young man. That’s homicide, and a triable offense…”

If the evidence supports bringing a case against him. If the evidence points to self-defense, which the DA thought after looking at the evidence, no.

This case has been politicized and that is why the circus must go on.

  7. Princess says:

There is an excellent article by Reuters out right now about this on Yahoo

    http://news.yahoo.com/george-zimmerman-prelude-shooting-194235114.html

A really interesting perspective of who Zimmerman really is and it illustrates even more the tragedy of this event. And how awful it is that it was politicized. I have always said that this is all the fault of law enforcement not investigating, but after reading this I am even more aware of how stupid good people can become sometimes when they get a gun in their hands.

Zimmerman was trying to protect his neighborhood and the article quotes a lot of neighbors who he helped. This is such a sad, tragic story and I am very emotional about it because I feel that Trayvonn could have been one of my sons so I don’t blame Obama for saying that. What I do blame is our pathetic media who cannot be bothered to cover events in any meaningful way until it is too late. This Reuters article could have been written weeks ago. Instead Reuters was more focussed on racism and sensationalism. By the time the facts come out, the wrong story will be believed by everyone.

  8. Toby says:

I read a news story this morning (I cant find it now, go figure) that says among other things that Zimmerman is part black. It also talked about the escalating crime rate in his neighborhood and multiple failures by the police being the reasons he was asked to head a neighborhood watch. They had day time burglaries with people in their homes in the neighborhood. That alone is good reason to own a gun. It went on to talk about Zimmerman and his wife becoming trained and getting concealed weapons permits because of a large dog belonging to a neighbor. The dog had been on Zimmerman’s property many times, the cops and animal control had been called many times. Zimmerman had first armed himself with pepper spray but either the cops or animal control told him pepper spray takes too long to act when deal with dogs that are that large and dangerous, that he should get a gun. I am failing to see how this makes him a stupid person. I guess had he been unarmed and allowed his brains to be splattered all over the sidewalk, that would make him smart?

    record low turnout.
    Romney won nothing

  10. Jim says:

I just don’t see how another ‘Country Club’ Republican is going to help out the middle class in this country. He will only take care of his rich friends.

With his recent comments, such as “I like to fire people” and “Corporations are people” isn’t going to help him much with the swing voters either. Nor is his track record with Bain Capital of closing down companies and laying off workers.

Romney hasn’t said what he is in favor of, only what he is against and that he wants to beat Obama. Where are his plans for the future? I really don’t think he has one.

  11. Peggy says:

Toby, here is the article you read. It sure presents a different George Zimmerman than the one described in the press. He has a black grandparent and was asked by the HOA to be the captain of their neighborhood watch program and why he was patrolling in the middle of the night.

  12. Tina says:

Jim: “I just don’t see how another ‘Country Club’ Republican is going to help out the middle class in this country. He will only take care of his rich friends.”

Do you think it is the job of the president to “take care of” rich friends…or any person or group?

I heard a lot of talk about Bush and Cheney “taking care of rich friends in the oil business but I never saw any evidence just a lot of silly talk. Do you have evidence that either of them did special favors for a specific company or for personal friends?

“Nor is his track record with Bain Capital of closing down companies and laying off workers.”

Wait a minute…Bain Capital is in the business of saving failing companies. They invest money, time, expertise and training so that the companies recover and survive. Now it’s true that not all of them make it. That doesn’t mean the goal is closing down companies or laying people off, however. The goal is to make companies thrive so they can hire. When the project ends in failure whatever time and money bain spent is also lost. Why don’t you see this as a benevolent type of company?

“Where are his plans for the future?”

    Go to this webpage:

    http://www.mittromney.com/Issues

Scroll down and pick an issue. You will learn what he generally favors but keep in miond the President can only propose legislation. Bills get written in the House and Senate so you shouldn’t find well fleshed out plans or promises from any candidate if he is being honest rather than trying to buy votes.
