Strange Things Happening Off the Coast of Iran

UPDATED – 2204 hrs. Iran Threatens USA – see page 2

The world’s most powerful armada, a massive fleet of ships, landing craft, airplanes, sailors and marines, a combined force more powerful than the entire sum of allied forces in WWII, and it is moving into position off the coast of Iran. The war ships have also brought with them high-tech sea drones to clear away the Iranian mine fields. The fleet includes the US Navy’s new USS Ponce, a virtual floating forward naval base.

This is a historic assemblage of war fighting implements and I find it somewhat ironic that the mainstream news media has not been going berserk with speculation, as they did in the buildup before Gulf One and Two under republican administrations. Also curious is, we haven’t heard a peep out of the usual loud-mouth liberals in Washington, like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barbara Lee or even Maxine Waters.

The White House press secretary said the ships are merely there to keep the Straight’s of Hormuz open, that’s all. If that is true, then it’s like a scene from Caddy Shack where the grounds keeper (Bill Murray) uses dynamite charges placed all over the golf course fairways and even the putting green all to exterminate one gopher. I have a hunch it might be more than just keeping the Straights open.

The timing of this mission coincidentally comes as the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany enter what has been billed as the final round of negotiations with Iran. The council’s previous negotiations failed to achieve any sort of breakthrough or even lessen tensions with Iran. Which calls for the question: Is the great armada, with enough destructive force to turn Iran into trash heap of bloody sand and twisted metal, there to help lessen tensions or is there some other reason?

Prior to this latest military buildup Iran suffered a series of devastating setbacks to it’s nuclear program in the form of top nuclear scientists suddenly dying, a long range missile exploded on the test ramp, but the blast was so large it wiped out surrounding structures and crippled the facility. More recently the New York Times leaked information the US had sabotaged Iran’s nuclear enrichment centrifuges with a computer virus, further delaying their program.

Within the last 20 plus months Israel has apparently gone from a country incapable of striking Iran with any sort of effective air power, to being fully capable of long range strikes with precise weaponry, including deep penetrating bombs.

Completely off topic, but what brought about the end of the depression?

Iran’s Navy has the ability to deploy its vessels three miles off the US east coast, a high-ranking Iranian Navy commander was quoted as saying by the Fars news agency.

“Our naval forces are so powerful that we have a presence in all the waters of the world and, if needed, we can move to within three miles of New York,” Revolutionary Guards Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi was quoted as saying during a speech to students at the University of Yazd earlier this week.

Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Commander Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said Iran was capable of crippling or disabling US aircraft carriers

“First, sinking an aircraft carrier is not a complicated task,” Hajizadeh said. “Second, an aircraft carrier is equipped with so many advanced, delicate, and sensitive devices … that it could be incapacitated by even the smallest explosion.”

Hmmm…and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice just said we need to storm Washington DC:

…Since the essence of who we are as Americans is at stake, so is the essence of what the international community may become. And don’t think for a minute that if we don’t lead, someone won’t. And that someone might be a country that doesn’t believe in free markets and free peoples. That is why it is time for all of us, in any way that we can, to mobilize, to get our act together, to storm Washington, DC, with somebody who understands that.

I have been wondering what former administration persons have been thinking about the state of the ME…sounds like Condi Rice is very concerned from a foreign policy perspective.

You’re right Jack…the news black out is amazing. FOX has this:

Jack !….. shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh there is a election coming up and the Obama Lib’s just don’t want another issue that they have to spin.

The military have had such resounding success in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Muslim world that our rulers figure they can do it again.
Wonder how many trillions a war in Iran will cost? And have other folks who favor this adventure looked at a map lately?

  5. Toby says:

I am all for removing Iran from the map, I want to know what’s motivating Obama? He only acts in his own best interests so whatever he is doing it is not for our benefit. We get the bill and our military pays the price.
If we are going to do it, do it right, do it big, leave nothing to rebuild. Make sure the Iranian leadership is dead. No trials, no debate, find them kill them. This is what needs to be done.
Does anyone here think Obama has it in him to do what needs to be done? If he does, it will be a first.
