Iran’s 1,150HP Zolfaqhar mass-produced speedboats can cruise at 80 knots (92 mph) and launch anti-ship missiles. Fast and nimble, they supposedly can bypass Raytheon’s Ship Self Defense System (SDSS) by attacking US heavyweight warship in swarms from several directions concurrently. Given the horsepower and weight it’s virtually impossible for any boat to reach 92 mph, especially on the open ocean. To cruise at 92 mph is guaranteed impossible. Iran lies. My guess is the boat can probably reach a top speed of about 60 mph, which is considerable giving the payload, weight and horsepower.

What is the range of the missiles?
Jack, I also have doubts about the stated speed of these boats, in fact the picture used shows this craft plowing very heavy in the water, possibly that may be just to control the missile launch however if so, thats the first weakness in their story. Even if Iran produced a vessel capable of those speeds, why would they attack? any provocation toward the US could start a war Iran could not win. especially with the current administration and it’s need to redirect people away from issues detriment to re election. My guess is that even due to trade restrictions, they are still selling their oil to China and India and most likely Russia and this could be a attempt to push the price of their oil higher and higher.
Harold, Iran seems to feel a need to flex it’s muscle all the time, but this time they grossly overstated their case. Your observation about the hull plowing deep in the water suggests a v design, not a flat hull.. any boat owners knows a deep v hull is never going to hit any where close to 90 mph. Guess not a lot of Iranians enjoy boating or they would have never tried to sell this lie to us.
There has been some fudging here too. It is only natural that news reporters would hype a story. A few days ago, there was front-page news that scientists had “apparently broken the universe’s speed limit.” That maximum is Einstein’s speed of light constant, which is about 186,000 miles per second. Per second, mind you, not per hour. The news reports did mention that this great discovery is still theoretical, but that did not stop them from speculating about interstellar space travel and Star Trek warp speed. As I recall, our fastet space ships can only go about 40,000 miles per hour, except for the suicide ship’s probe to the sun, which reached an estimated speed of about 150,000 mph. Of course, that was mostly the result of the sun’s gravity rather than any self-propulsion. Even 150k per hour is 360 times slower than the speed of light.
