Not just a guy flick…
This film is quite possibly the best movie I’ve seen in awhile. The story, based on the main character in a series of books by a British author, Jim Grant, is both intriguing and compelling. Yes, it has violence and guns in abundance but no more so than other movies of the type and the violence is tempered by a bit of humor and very good acting. Best of all, it contains a big win for the white hats. Get a ticket, grab some popcorn, and get ready for a very gratifying movie experience; you won’t regret it.
Okay, you got my attention. I am going to the movies today to see it. Maybe I’ll learn some more self defense tricks to prepare myself for the coming revolution. : )
The movie is pretty good. But is is not like the books, which were written by Lee Child, not that other guy. One sour note, if you have read the books, is that an integral part of Reacher’s character is his physical size. He is about 6 ft. 5 inches tall and very powerful. Tom Cruise, of course, is only about 5 ft. 2 inches. Still, he does a good job of acting, while standing on a box and using special effects for his phyical conflicts.
Too bad. I avoid Tom Cruise movies with a passion. Might watch it on DVD rental.
Since Saturday I’ve seen “Lincoln,” the “Hobbit” and “Les Miserables.” All are excellent and worth seeing. I can’t pick a favorite, I liked them all equally just differently.
Wanted to see “Hitchcock” too but it’s playing at the Pageant where my allergies can’t take the dust. Hopefully, it will open at Tinsel Town too or I’ll wait until it comes out on DVD. Heard from friends and family in other towns it’s Oscar winner performances by Hopkins and Merrin.
Maybe that other guy is the script writer? Just goes to show you can’t always trust information on the web.
Soaps you’re right, it’s rare when a movie can top the book/s. I always think books are more satisfying. Movies are all about instant gratification. It’s especially difficult when your image of the character is so different from the movie character.
According to this article Tom Cruise does most of his stunt work…he likes it. See pictures of him performing stunt work in MI-Ghost Protocol:

Daniel Craig apparently does a lot of the stunt work in the new 007 movies and there are others…Angelina Jolie for instance!

Obviously they don’t do all of them…it’d be too hard on those pretty box office faces 😉
Peggy I saw Hitchcock. I’d wait for it to hit the tiny screen in your living room. The acting was okay but not worthy of an Oscar…both Hopkins and Merren have done much better work. Did you happen to see her in RED. I loved her in that film.
The script for Hitchcock was narrow and portrayed the man in an extremely negative light…one dimensional. I’ve seen old interviews with Hitchcock and his wife that suggest a much different person. I have no doubt that he could be a demanding, even cold, director or that he might have been the type to make a pass but this portrayal makes him seem extremely cruel…I have trouble buying that.
I understand that Tippi Hedren has accused him of sexual advances and cruelty, however, so I assume this movie is based on her point of view:.

It seems odd that she would go on to make another movie with him if he was the person she claims he was. How desperate to be a star does one have to be to endure such uncomfortable garbage…even in the fifties and sixties. Not me!!!
LOL…now I suppose you really want to see it. I don’t think it was worth the price of the ticket and if I had it to do over I’d wait to see it at home.
Tina, Thanks for the input on Hitchcock. I’d heard such great things about it too. It just didn’t make sense to not have it playing at the major theaters. Others must have thought the same as you which is why it’s not.
I’ll take your advise and wait to watch it at home.
