There’s an old petition I stumbled across the other day. It was written in an old-fashioned kind of legalese, so I updated it a little to make it more modern. This is the gist of what it said.
Some truths are just obvious, so obvious that they do not require an elaborate proof, and so obvious that it is ridiculous to attempt one. Among these is the obvious truth that all human beings are equally responsible for their own consciences, behaviors, and actions. This means that all human beings have a right to live their own lives, to do whatever pleases them as long as it doesn’t interfere with the basic rights of others, and to be free to make their own decisions about their own lives.
The only real reason people agree to submit themselves to a government is to protect these basic human rights.
Thus, government comes out of the free, voluntary, and willing consent of ordinary people. The power of a government comes from the ordinary people who agree to be bound by its laws.
Because that’s where the government’s power comes from, and because the purpose of government is to protect basic human rights, it follows that whenever a government no longer protects these rights, or whenever a government begins to destroy these rights, then it is the responsibility of a good citizen to either change that government or to destroy it.
If the government does not or cannot protect basic human rights, the only moral course that a person can take is to participate in changing or abolishing the existing government.
Of course, as a practical matter, a long-standing government can’t be changed easily – and anyway, it shouldn’t be changed for minor or temporary problems. That’s simple human nature, because most people will put up with an awful lot of bad stuff before we’ll get off our rear ends and do anything about it! Especially if changing things means that … well, that things have changed. We like the familiar.
But when there’s a long and ongoing pattern of human rights abuses, and flagrant abuses of power including some people getting into office who aren’t legally qualified to do so or who cheated to get there, and there have been so many repeated offenses of this nature that it almost looks like there’s a plan to take all power away from the people and put it in the hands of bureaucrats – well, that’s when people have the right and duty to abolish the existing government. That’s when it is time to start a new government that will be more responsive to their needs and more likely to respect their rights.

If you speak of revolution, then you must first take down the media. For it is the MSM that gives the current power brokers the power. Take down the MSM and you take down the current power brokers.
After all, with out the MSM carrying the water for them the American people would know the truth, and they would have replace them in the last election.
56 people have signed so far…
Interesting question, Jack! It is the basic question our founders asked. As I was reading I became intrigued by this statement:
It is necessary in our republic that the people understand and embrace the basic point of personal responsibility and self control. As one of the founders said we would not need government if all people would abide by this basic moral ideal.
The federal government was established for very limited purposes. We pledge our allegiance to the United States of America not the federal government of America. We fly a flag that reflects the states and represents the people living in freedom. Government officials and representatives are servants of the people but they are servants of all of the people not disparate groups. They are certainly not intended as an elite ruling aristocracy that sits above the people.
Clearly we have not only moved drastically away from this model in the way that we think about the purpose of the federal government but also in our willing relinquishing of our freedoms and basic rights. We have the right as individuals to direct and shape our lives, to keep what we earn, to own property, to worship and express ourselves, and to live without fear of oppression.
When our homes were our castles, when we adhered to the basic tenet of respect for each other as human beings, when we minded our own business and taught our children to do the same, when education was about learning the basics and then reading and learning to think for ourselves we were able to live free. The more the federal government is given power as a centrally governing force, the less free we become. The more complex our laws have become, the more divided and contentious we become as citizens.
I have no desire for the federal government to “meet my needs” other than to defend these United States, to act as an arbitrator in disputes among the states, and to represent our interests internationally.
I would say yes, Jack, I would sign such a document if I felt it was worded like, say, the Declaration of Independence and I could no longer endure the oppression of this overreaching federal government.
Conservatives, Libertarians, Independents, and even traditional Democrats have been seeking a more limited federal government, a simpler tax structure, strength and power that begins with the individual/family and community first and we have been doing it for decades. We have attempted to make life more equitable for our citizens with policies that bring costs down, create opportunity, and serve those in need through personal intervention. We have tried to preserve the tradition of excellence in schools, in business, in charitable giving, and innovation. Over those same decades our efforts have been blunted and undermined by extreme radical ideas that mirror the government policies of failing or failed states and murderous oppressive regimes. The march from freedom to oppression is slow in the beginning but as it gains in momentum it can accelerate quickly. We are dangerously close to that point when this free people will have had enough.
Sorry RHT447, I didn’t notice this was your post!
“Sorry RHT447, I didn’t notice this was you’re post!”

What petition? There’s no link nor nothing.
I’ll need specifics about these flagrant abuses … I mean, you’re not just grousing about your taxes again, are you?
