Dr. Ben Carson at CPAC 2013

“You don’t have to be a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist to understand that if we continue to spend ourselves into oblivion we are going to destroy our nation. You know, if I were going to try to destroy this nation…if you just…let’s say you just magically put me into the White House (lengthy applause) I take it back…but let’s say somebody were there and they wanted to destroy this nation…what would you do? Let me tell you what I would do, first of all I would create division among the people, I would have everybody pitted against each other because a wise man by the name of Jesus once said a house divided against itself could not stand, and then I would encourage a culture of ridicule for basic morality and the principles that made and sustained the country, and then, I would undermine the financial stability of the country…drive it so far into debt that there was absolutely no chance that it could recover and I would weaken the military and destroy the moral of the military…that’s what I would do and I guarantee you it would work. Now, the question is…it appears, coincidentally, (laughter) that those are the very things that are happening right now. And the question is, how do we stop it? Can we stop it, or must we inexorably follow the same kind of path that other pinnacle nations have followed before their destruction…because all of those things that I just mentioned are the things that happened to other pinnacle nations before their fall and you know this is not something that has just started in the last four or five years this has been going on for quite some time now so lets not lay all the blame on any one particular person but lets the fact of the matter is we all have responsibility to recognize what’s going on and to use our influence to correct some of these things.”

    After reading this I can almost visualize and hear the progressive Vancome Lady response.

  2. Harold Ey says:

    This was the best speech I have heard in a while relating to politics today. Dr.Carson should be a inspiration to both parties to STOP this BS they call legislation, and do some real work for the people. I especially liked his comments about ‘proportional skin in the game’ and the fact name recognition verse effective legislation puts 90% of the elected back in office, even when as a group they only have a 9% favorable rating. That figure alone explains the decay in America today. I would enjoy a following a debate between Dr Carson and Obama.. 🙂

  3. Tina says:

    Harold I don’t think Obama would ever agree to it but I think it would be an amazing thing to watch.

  4. Pie Guevara says:

    As a person of Irish extraction and fictional Hispanic heritage I proffer the following nod to Saint Patrick’s Day. I also apologize in advance to my immediate neighbors who may again be made to suffer through a few hours of traditional Celtic music played at full blast through my wholly overpowered and obnoxious home stereo. As a peace offering I promise to keep the Flamenca Nuevo below ear splitting level on the next Cinco de Mayo.

    This is a little story I’m not sure is true wholly correct. I got the seed from North State historian Mike Hamilton. These are not his words, but rather my own from research inspired by him. (What ever happened to Mike Hamilton? I miss his long gone KPAY radio 6:00 AM Sunday show and his latter historical video features on KHSL.)

    Two hundred and forty years ago (around 1783) the celebrated Scot poet and folk song collector Robert Burns either originated or put to paper “Green Grow The Rashes” This song was either already a favorite amongst Scots and Irish or it became one, possibly passed from parent to child by mouth for generations before Burns’ transcription and certainly there after. It is essentially a young man’s (and by extension, young woman’s) song of romance. It is simultaneously boastful, hopeful, and endearing. The song expresses that the happiest, most joyful hours for a young man are those spent in the company of the opposite sex. Something that still may be true even to this day!

    Then, 63 years later, came The Great Famine. The years between 1845 to 1852 claimed a million Irish lives and inspired a million more to emigrate. Many fled to the United States at a time when immigration from Europe was surging. You may recall “No Irish Need Apply” signs from high school history class.

    Young Irish men seeking employment and finding none headed west to seek their fortunes and escape the poverty, misery and intolerance of the east coast. Some of them found employment as mercenaries in the Mexican army as Mexico at that time just happened to be at war with the United States. Those that did become mercenaries found themselves strangers in a strange land amongst inhabitants which were none too friendly.

    So of course these young men, homesick and adrift in a sea of hostility, misery, and sudden death, clung to each other and their heritage. Around the campfire they sang their favorite songs and consoled themselves. Hence the origination of the derogatory term “gringo”. Evidently drunken Mexican army regulars tired of sentimental drunken Gringos singing “Green Grow The Rashes.”

    Green grow the rashes, O!
    Green grow the rashes, O!
    The sweetest hours that e’er I spend,
    Are spent amang the lasses, O!

    There’s nought but care on every han’
    In every hour that passes, O;
    What signifies the life o’ man,
    An ’twere na for the lasses, O?

    The warl’ly race may riches chase,
    An’ riches still may fly them, O;
    An’ though at last they catch them fast,
    Their hearts can ne’er enjoy them, O.

    But gi’e me a canny hour at e’en,
    My arms about my dearie, O,
    An’ warl’ly cares an’ warl’ly men
    May a’ gae tapsalteerie, O!

    For you sae douce, ye sneer at this,
    Ye’re nought but senseless asses, O;
    The wisest man the warl’ e’er saw,
    He dearly loved the lasses, O.

    Auld Nature swears the lovely dears
    Her noblest work she classes, O;
    Her ‘prentice han’ she tried on man,
    An’ then she made the lasses, O.

    Thanks Pie I too am 100% Irish with a little German thrown in and love the music and dance.

    I found this version I liked and thought I’d share it.

    Enjoy on this day everyone has a little Irish in them.
