Begging Getting Worse in Chico

Well, the professional panhandlers were out in force this weekend… because some people in our community continue to give them money!

If you know a tenderhearted person that gives money to these bums and degenerates please let these naive softhearted people know how the rest of Chico feels about their misdirected charity… TELL THEM TO KNOCK IT OFF!   These new bums are coming from all over and they are filling our shelters, causing crime, being drunk and disorderly and leaving their filth behind wherever they please.

We’re reasonable people, but frankly this is getting to be too much.  We’re getting real sick and tired of the foolish people who give directly to bums.  And were just as sick and tired of the bums asking for it.   This spare change isn’t helping!  It’s feeding the addictions of these freeloaders and it’s keeping them out of counselling and on the streets.

Chico has all kinds of help for these dropouts, these self-imposed homeless freeloaders!  Don’t give them ANY money, they don’t need it and it won’t help them.  There is ample free food and shelter for them, your spare change will only go to buy booze, sex or drugs.

The worst part is, begging is a good racket.  It pays about $10-$20 an hour and this is why they come here.

The new population of bums are taking a toll on Chico.  They are in effect stealing from our local limited charity by taking free food, free beds, and just taking whatever free things they can get and this often impacts what charity our real needy people get.

We’re a magnet for bums from all over the country thanks to local people giving them money.   But, lets be clear, when I say bums, I’m NOT talking about the true homeless and disabled.  I’m talking about the young and able, they are on drugs, they are the glue sniffers, the paint sniffers, the burnouts, the dropouts and the profession panhandlers!

So to the givers out here, I say:  Stop giving these bums a reason to be in Chico!   We don’t want them out on the street corners with their stupid cardboard signs begging!  The next person you see giving money to these bums… give them an earful for me, will ya?   That’s our right as much as it is theirs to give money to bums.  Let them know we don’t approve in the strongest possible terms.

And this is a good time to mention that the guy at Target whose kids are stuck and he needs gas money to get home? Nope. All of these sob stories you hear in parking lots are BS. I heard a guy peddling one at Target, and then he approached me a week later with the exact same story at In and Out Burger.

One time a friend bought dog food for the guy who stands out by the Toys R Us stop light and when she took it to him the dog wasn’t with him. She says “where is your dog?” He was in the guy’s 5 year old truck. Newer than her car.

Do not feed these people or give them money. If you want to feed hungry people or help the poor give to Salvation Army or the Torres Shelter. Or donate to the food banks. But stop feeding the human pigeons.

This town is turning into a craphole with all of the stabbings and homeless campers everywhere.

several years ago, before I realized most were a sham, I did give some money to a couple, they were outside the Raleys Center. After we took care of what we needed to we went into the restuarant(in the Center) for breakfast, a few minutes later the couple came in ordered breakfast as well, pulled out a wad of cash and counted it, “Good today”.

Hey, Dude … the price of Reaganism.

On this one job I had, every day, at the head of the escalator to the 19th Street BART station, danced the same professional beggar. I walked right past that guy every work day for four years.

    Get tough, guy.

What you have to learn to accept is that, while not giving to the man I considered a matter of civic duty, other people see it just the opposite.

You gotta let it go. I mean, what’s it to you, really?

    Get tough.

No Libby, I don’t want to “get tough.” I don’t want to go out to dinner downtown and step over campers. So who suffers when people like me stay away? We all do. Because the downtown businesses lose income and our town loses great places to patronize in favor of chains.

And walking by a dancing beggar at the BART station is a lot different than walking past the campers at the City Council chambers and in the downtown plaza. And they have crept into the doorways all over the place down there.

If I wanted to walk by beggars at BART I would live in San Francisco. Unfortunately, that is what Chico is turning into.
