Zimmerman Not Guilty

Posted by Tina

USA Today:

SANFORD, Fla.–George Zimmerman, the man accused of murdering Trayvon Martin, was found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter on Saturday.

The verdict is the culmination of a case that captured the nation’s attention and will undoubtedly be imprinted in America’s history. The not guilty verdict means the jury of six women found that Zimmerman justifiably used deadly force and reasonably believed that such force was “necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm” to himself — Florida’s definition of self-defense.

Fill in the blanks guys; I have dishes to do.

Peggy we knew it would come. Like I keep saying they never stop…never!

    From the Daily Caller article:

“The most fundamental of civil rights — the right to life — was violated the night George Zimmerman stalked and then took the life of Trayvon Martin,” the NAACP wrote. “We ask that the Department of Justice file civil rights charges against Mr. Zimmerman for this egregious violation.”

Hey NAACP…how about you take those charges to Chicago!

And while I have your attention, since when is it okay to put the life of one black teen above the life of the people, mostly kids that are killed every week in Chicago?

Must read time line of the medias participation in stoking the racist and guilty narrative.

Sorry guys for going off topic but I gotta say it…woo hoo…Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum just threw a no hitter…9-0 for the Giants second win in two days…is it too soon to say they’re back?

  3. Harriet says:

Al Sharpton said the”Verdict is an Atrocity” ,
Why they even had to march just to get a trial, how absurd that all the shennanigans and arm twisting worked. I am delighted that the jury came back not guilty.

Yea, Tine a good time for the Giants 🙂

  4. J. Soden says:

The Sanford Police Chief who was fired due not charging Zim right away, was right after all.

The country has been put through the racial wringer because of bad decisions by prosecutors who bowed to political pressure from the professional race-baiters.

    This country deserves better.

I’m proud of our PS readers who figured out what was going on long before Obama said, “If I had a son he would look just like Trayvon.”

  5. Soaps says:

I studied Latin for four years in high school, and later I spent 25 years in law enforcement, so I am familiar with the concept of cui bono. Roughly translated, that means who benefits? In the actual homicide, of course, no one benefits, except that Zimmerman avoided being killed by his assailant. But I am thinking of all the commentary and publicity. Black racists like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton benefit from stirring up racial hatred, since that is their occupation, their only source of income. Mr. Obama also benefits. The news media benefits in a different way. In some cases, like MSNBC, there is an ideological motivation, but in most cases, it is a matter of filling, and thereby selling, air time. Fox was not innocent in this either, since they covered the trial minute-by-minute, and they are still on it today. The other night, I saw a big news ALERT banner on Fox. The “news” was that the jury was eating dinner. Post Scripts is generally better, but they can fall into the space-filling trap too. I suggest that Jack and Tina rise above the mob and just stop. No reports, no comments from you or your readers, and no more stirring the pot.

    • Post Scripts says:

Soaps, we agree the media has been irresponsible. They’ve been in [feeding frenzy] mode since day one of the shooting, and of course Obama inserting himself into it only made matters worse. The attention here was absolutely unwarranted, we agree with you 100%. This was never about the black struggle to overcome racism, whites killing black children, etc., it was a pretty case that was best left to the cops and DA. I know for a fact you’ve brought far more serious cases to trial without much notice, but the media tried to make this something it was not.

So here we have the media writing fiction over the top of facts and spinning this story for all its worth. CNN, ABC an others all trotted out their usual crackpots who made wildly irresponsible statements; some were even calling for a riot the moment a not-guilty verdict comes in! Fox news was about the only network that didn’t engage in such absurdity. Now we have people saying how Trayvon will live on as another Medgar Evers, a Malcomb X, etc., for being a black teenager who started beating up on a person he called a cracker? If this is what it takes to become a civil rights icon then this community has a serious image problem. But, back to your commentary, as much as we would like to avoid being yet one more media source that is stirring the pot, the best we can do is to try and report fairly on what we see, not what the jury had for lunch.

If we don’t stay up with the lamestream media how else can we hold them marginally accountable for all their foolishness? Also, our silence could be taken as sign of approval and we sure don’t want that! We DO NOT approve of almost everything the lamestream media has done in this case. But, there it is… say something and risk being part of this media crowd exploiting it or say nothing and give them the final word. You’re point is not without merit, and there’s many times I wish we could go there, but I don’t see how we could and still live up to our mission to fairly and responsibly evaluate the news and events of the day?

Let’s hope this is the last we’ll hear of the Zimmerman trial…but, I really don’t think so. Something tells me there is a whole lot more to be written.

  6. Peggy says:

The real tragedy is Martin was killed because of the burglaries committed in this community by individuals who were described as looking like him. I wonder how they feel knowing their criminal acts contributed to this young man’s death and if they are still breaking into other homes setting up another situation for another tragedy.

Zimmerman would not have been out there if these burglaries had not taken place. He volunteered to help protect his community as many across the country have with the encouragement of local police departments. Who in their right mind would still want to be a neighborhood watch volunteer? Instead of being out on patrol helping ones neighbors I see people staying home, locking their doors, loading their guns with an attitude of everyone is on their own now, because they don’t want to go through what Zimmerman has.

The real tragedies are Trayvon Martin died because of the actions of those who committed those break-ins, Zimmerman’s life has been ruined because he was a WHITE/Hispanic who was used as a political pawn and the hundreds of killing will continue in Chicago and other cities because they are not committed by a white.

If Sharpton and Jackson really want to scream “atrocity” with a microphone in front of them they should direct it at the mass killings taking place everyday.

Also, Zimmerman’s attorneys are looking into filing a civil suit against Florida. With the police chief and IT guy being fired and proof of tampered and withheld evidence he may have a case. At least he’ll be able to move to another country where the threats to end his life will be reduced, hopefully.

    • Post Scripts says:

Peggy, those burglars who created this climate of fear and suspicion feel no responsibilty and I can say that with a fair amount of certainty. Aside from your average teen looking for a cheap thrill that temporarily outweighs his/her sense morality, these other guys are typically hardcord and they are burglars by choice.

  7. Chris says:

Zimmerman’s life was ruined because he was dumb enough to follow someone whom he suspected of a crime while carrying a gun. In what world was this not a possible logical outcome? I do not think there was enough evidence to justify a murder charge but I still believe he acted with criminal negligence and I think he should have been convicted of manslaughter. I don’t blame the jury for this, that charge wasn’t introduced until way late in the trial. The prosecution failed here.

  8. Toby says:

If Trayvon is his son would that make OJ his father? I am so over the whole thing. I am sick of the minority BS in this Country. I am 48 yrs old, I went to school with black kids and we had the same education, read the same text books, at the same lunch and took the same bus. How exactly were they discriminated against? When I got my first “real” job I was 15 bussing tables and washing dishes. My partner in crime was a black kid and he made a dime an hour more than I did. Oh and he drove a car when I was still walking to work. I had and have nothing but fond memories of that guy. The job sucked but it was equally distributed suckyness. Not really seeing discrimination here either. A few years and a few jobs later, I joined the Navy, hold onto your hats, they had black people in the Navy! We were all navy blue and treated like crap equally. Once we got into the fleet, I saw some of this discrimination people are always bitching about and it was blatant and Navy wide. In the Navy, you take advancement exams for promotions and as it turns out the minorities get points just for the color of their skin. So I am not really seeing why they are always screaming discrimination. They wanted to be equal and they got it. What they found out is that being equal sucks and want more. More power to them! I have no problem with wanting more but for Christ sake earn it stop acting like I owe you something because of my skin color. I didn’t and have never done a fricking thing to hold anyone down or back, I frankly don’t give a $hit about your skin color but clearly you care about mine.
I have come to the conclusion that black people are more trouble than they are worth so I ignore them and I avoid them. It is a truly bad way to look at things and I know that but I am tired and beaten down to the point that I just don’t have it in me to make amends for life’s luck of the draw.

    • Post Scripts says:

Toby you have spoken honestly and it’s my guess this is what is on the hearts and minds of a vast majority of people who have enough the talk from race baiters/haters. They just want to move on and forget about it, like enough already…move on!

I agree with you that the military is tough on their enlisted. Sometimes it’s brutal and unfair, but it’s equally brutal and unfair regardless of race… in my opinion. It’s usually when times get real tough, even brutal and unfair, that black people either make a choice to leave the black attitude behind or they get worse and it causes them trouble in the military. Those types run out of friends real fast.

My first experience even being around black people came when I worked side by side with two older black guys in the ship’s engine room. One was a fireman, the other was an oiler. Both were great guys, hard working, and they knew their jobs and they made good friends who would watch out for you. But, I heard about some other situations where some had not quite got beyond the thug life and this caused some major problems in the Navy. Around 1967-68 race relations in the Navy were very poor. There were some small riots, but you didn’t read about that because they were on base and the Navy put a lid on it. Years later I found the race situation radically improved. The people I knew and served with were just fine…no issues. But, these were older, professional NCO’s and they really had their act together. They were successes, each and every one and they earned my respect.

Today the Navy is very concerned about gender and race equality, but I don’t know much more than that. Maybe somebody else could weigh in with a more informed opinion?

  9. Chris says:

Toby: “I have come to the conclusion that black people are more trouble than they are worth so I ignore them and I avoid them.”

This, after spending an entire wall of text talking about how non-racist you are. Amazing. And disgusting.

  10. Tina says:

    Toby, points well taken!

NONE of the younger people who claim discrimination today have experienced what their grandparents and great grandparents experienced. Most don’t realize that a lot of what they call discrimination is stuff that everyone experiences.

People have attitudes and opinions toward other people of every race and stripe…people of color are just as likely to have these traits…get it and over it!

People are only defined by their critics only when they surrender to the criticism and become hopeless victims.

Chris, poor product of the PC campus, actually concludes acts of personal privacy and solitude constitute racism. I wonder, has he ever imagined what a blessing being “ignored and avoided” would have been to blacks in Mississippi who were lynched and beaten?

I offer full applause to all who can just take advantage of the many opportunities we have for everyone in America and get on with their lives!

Jackson, Sharpton, et al have surely done ignoble, self-serving and destructive work!

  11. Tina says:

Soaps I too appreciate the point you have made and I certainly don’t have any desire to jump on any media frenzy train.

I freely acknowledge that I can be easily swayed off subject since I do enjoy discussing issues of all kinds and at times end up off mission.

I also attempt in my postings to do a few things that I think rise above the media frenzy:

    1. Post opinions and facts that media won’t post.

    2. Discover and post information that media have no interest in uncovering.

    3. Passionately counter arguments that have a leftist bent (With no pretense of balance or fairness)

    4. Offer an opportunity to our readers to comment on current events and political issues even when they are sensational. However, when they are sensational, I also do my best to use the event to expose corruption and include information outside the mainstream.

I can suggest that we do better at posting other articles at the same time so as to offer choice to our participating readers and nonparticipating fans.

    Which reminds me:

Some of you out there have opinions that are just as interesting, maybe more interesting, as ours. I’d like to invite the shy guys to jump in. We love to hear from new people.

  12. Toby says:

Chris, I have had time to think it over and want to amend what I said. Black liberals and liberalism as a whole is more trouble than it/they are worth. Does that help? If my post offended anyone other than a liberal, I honestly apologize.

  13. Tina says:

Holder will supposedly consider a civil rights case against Zimmerman. It won’t happen. An FBI investigation has already taken place with no finding of racist attitudes on the part of George Zimmerman who is himself hispanic, white, and black. Another reason is that another trial would likely bring out the racist attitudes of Trayvon Martin and the cover-up of Martin’s criminal activity.

The administration is hamstrung…a new trial will not take place.

On the other hand Zimmerman’s lawyer is pursuing a defamation lawsuit against NBC for fraudulent reporting.

The Martin family, meanwhile, is considering a civil suit against Zimmerman.

One way or another there will be no peace for a man that was railroaded by a race baiting bunch of community organizers looking for hay to help fill the redistribution cart. Disgusting!

  14. Toby says:

Obama, Holder,MSM and liberalism took a huge hit to what little credibility they had. When Zimmerman goes against NBC, the $hit will hit the fan. I am willing to be NBC is already figuring out how many millions it will take to make Zimmerman go away. I hope he takes them to trial.
As far as a civil suit, I think the self defense and stand your ground law is going to protect Zimmerman from a suit.

  15. Chris says:

Tina: “Chris, poor product of the PC campus, actually concludes acts of personal privacy and solitude constitute racism.”

Intentionally “ignoring” and “avoiding” people because of their race is racist. You should feel as stupid having that explained to you as I feel having to explain it. But since you are incapable of feeling shame, you won’t.

You’ve once again redefined the term “PC” to mean “knowing the accurate definition of words, possessing at least an 8th grade level of logical reasoning skills and common sense, and not being a racist shitheel.”

Your routine digs at higher education merely show your own lack thereof, and your serious need to get one.

Jack: “It’s usually when times get real tough, even brutal and unfair, that black people either make a choice to leave the black attitude behind or they get worse”

    “Black attitude?” WTF?

Please, tell us more about how racism is dead!

Why do I even come here anymore? You are all freaking awful.

    • Post Scripts says:

Chris, you’re not going to get away with that one! Look Mr. Liberal, don’t be so hypere sensitive! Maybe you haven’t reached this point yet and have no clue what I am talking about, but there comes a time in everyone’s life when a defining choice must be made and we grow up. There’s no specific time, place or method how it happens, but it does happen..for most of us anyway. I noted one of those times. There’s many options, for some kids it’s when they put down the video games and start thinking like an adult and they take their school seriously. For others it’s about dropping the [black] attitude. This is the cocky attitude that says I’m black, I’m bad, and white people all suck. They hold me back and they are responsible for my poor situation!

NOW OBVIOUSLY CHRIS NOT all black kids going into the service think this way, but many do. You are incredibly naive if you think this attitude doesn’t exist and causes problems in the military. And that’s why I said there comes a time when they have to make an informed decision based on their military experience, do I continue with this race based attitude or do I blend in as an equal and accept personal responsibility for everything…good and bad? Now you can try to make something racist out of that if you want, but this is reality.

You test our patients and there are times when I don’t know why we put up with you, except that we value free speech as much as we value trying help erase ignorance.

  16. Peggy says:

Has anyone heard about Nancy Grace’s language on the liberal media, or is it just circulating on the internet? Must be another example of acceptable language if it comes from the left-leaners.

Could we get three cheers for Temar Boggs, a real hero for saving a little girl from a kidnapper?!! (Be sure to watch the video.) What an awesome kid!

    http://lancasteronline.com/article/local/872026_Lancaster-teen-Temar-Boggs-hailed-as-a-hero-in-5-year-old-s-abduction.html

  18. Chris says:

Peggy, I think Nancy Grace is one of the worst, most sensationalist media figures around, but she was clearly using the phrase as an example of *unacceptable* language that she (IMO, wrongly) believes was used by Zimmerman. I think she’s wrong that the tape is clear on this; I’ve listened to it and I can’t make heads or tails out of what Zimmerman said in that moment. I guess you can hear that racist phrase, if you really want to.

As I’ve said before I think acting as if Zimmerman must have been an irredeemable racist bigot is unwarranted and counter-productive. I think many on both the left and right, instead of arguing over whether or not Zimmerman was any more racist than the rest of us, would do better to acknowledge that racial profiling is something that any of us are capable of. That’s scarier, because it asks people to think about their own potential to end up in a similar situation.

  19. Tina says:

Jack: “For others it’s about dropping the [black] attitude. This is the cocky attitude that says I’m black, I’m bad, and white people all suck.”

Unfortunately for many black kids this attitude is indulged and encouraged and leads to events like this!

Remember in the sixties one of the constant themes was that racism and hatred had to be TAUGHT! The black kids today are being taught that it is noble to be angry and honorable to seek revenge. Revf. MLK would not be happy:

    Romans Chapter 12

17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

  20. Tina says:

Chris: “You should feel as stupid having that explained to you as I feel having to explain it. But since you are incapable of feeling shame, you won’t.”

    Arrogance and rude behavior.

I am not a racist. You should think a bit more about freedom and the right to avoid people if you so wish.

I avoid white thugs too. I avoid people who are rude.

Avoidance, especially in this age of revenge and retribution, is a survival skill.

“Your routine digs at higher education merely show your own lack thereof, and your serious need to get one.”

Education comes in all kinds of forms. I don’t have a diploma but then, I;m not working at Wall Mart and whining about the minimum wage either! I understand the home schooler’s and charter school kids are also kicking butt!

Seems to me I read an article recently about how poorly we are educating our educators. Yep, here it is:

The National Council on Teacher Quality on Tuesday released a report saying that the picture is “dismal” in Pennsylvania and nationally.

“While we know a lot about how to train teachers, those practices are seldom evident in the vast majority of programs,” said Kate Walsh, president of the NCTQ. …

…The report also produced a warning list for those earning less than one star, including four in Pennsylvania: the undergraduate elementary programs at California, Clarion and Holy Family universities and the graduate secondary education program at Marywood University.

The results are based on document reviews, including syllabi, admissions standards, observation forms used in student teaching placements and student teaching handbooks. NCTQ did not visit campuses nor interview superintendents or others on the performance of graduates.

Chris will now tell us that the report has been discredited and my source sucks. But he cannot defend the steady decline that demonstrates the job is not getting done and he cannot explain how some college graduates can get their diplomas without being able to read them!

Education has become a protection racket…I feel for the kids and the many good teachers stuck in this rotten system.

“…the rest of us, would do better to acknowledge that racial profiling is something that any of us are capable of. That’s scarier, because it asks people to think about their own potential to end up in a similar situation.”

Geeez Chris…you are a bright person. How the heck will that space open when we have minorities being taught to hate and seek revenge through violence and thuggery…when prominent spokemen are encouraging them to act outside of the legal system…and when colleges are teaching division and hatred of the white man?

You haven’t been educated, man, you’ve been conditioned!

UPDATE: Sorry about the missing link. Can’t find the same one but this will do from PBS; it’ll be tough for our friend Chris to discredit PBS.

  21. Chris says:

Tina: “I avoid white thugs too.”

Toby didn’t say anything about “thugs” of any color. He said he avoids black PEOPLE.

I don’t know why you think it’s cute to pretend you can’t read.

You will get no argument from me about the poor quality of teacher education. The credential program at my school is extremely poorly run. But that doesn’t change the fact that your own arguments reveal you to be poorly educated yourself. You literally have no idea how to recognize or construct a valid argument, and I mean that in the most classical sense; your conclusions literally do not follow from your premises. The Heritage piece you cited in another Zimmerman thread shows that quite well, as do your arguments against gay marriage.

  22. Toby says:

When a news story comes up about white people acting in mass like animals, you will hear from me on it, I give you my word.

Chris, I look at it like this. Black people have been conditioned to think I am a problem because I act the way a proper society deems people should act. I know for a fact not all black people feel that way but if the MSM and the race baiting talking heads are accurate, the number of blacks that do hold ill will towards non-blacks is alarming and makes it prudent for me, to avoid them.

Great example, did you see the rioters attack that mini-van stopped at an intersection (not sure what city). They ran up and started beating on the windows and trying to turn it over, people were in it.

Chris, also keep in mind that avoiding is not the same as backing down. Had I been driving that van, that intersection would have a bunch of new speed bumps. I fully believe these misguided morons are doing your/white liberal dirty work. As proof of that check out the “protests” in NYC. Huge crowd of white “protesters” egging on a black person to act out.

Avoiding means avoiding, why is that a problem with you? If more people avoided trouble, this world would be a better place.

  23. Tina says:

Chris: “Toby didn’t say anything about “thugs” of any color.”

You’re right he didn’t. But he did describe what has become a problem for white people in today’s politically correct environment of hyphenated Americans with their lists of do’s and don’ts in one short sentence. It isn’t worth it in many cases to risk a conversation or even a smile with black people. The same type of barrier that causes me to avoid white thugs causes me to be very cautious in opening up to black people. This is a new phenomenon for me that has come about in the last twenty years.
I fear for my grandkids in this community organized world of anger and revenge. I fear for the many decent black families who just want to live their lives too.

I believe this rage is militant and ideologically driven.

So I’m poorly educated and, in your opinion, I “have no idea how to recognize or construct a valid argument…in the most classical sense”

I wasn’t aware that I was in your classroom. I also don’t recall signing on for a classical debate with you or anyone else.

I come here to discuss politics and the events of the day. Is there a list of rules that teacher can give me about the art of discussion, classical or otherwise?

How about lessons in rude and arrogant rhetoric? Do you have a lesson plan for that too?

I think I have a solution for you, Chris. Don’t read my stuff and for heavens sake, don’t comment on it!

  24. Peggy says:

I know, how about a bunch of whites and Hispanics hold protest marches and riots if Zimmerman is charged by the DOJ.

If that’s what it takes to get the liberal media to cover it why not. Oh that’s right, they’d just be labeled raciest if they did. Forgot the double standard of what is acceptable and even expected behavior for some isn’t provided to others.

    • Post Scripts says:

I would join that march! The idiots that are after Zimmerman are just desperate liberals trying to salvage something from being wrong from day one. They just can’t accept the fact they lost and they were wrong.

  25. Tina says:

Toby thanks for expanding your thought.

Avoidance makes perfect sense to me…the word and the act.

  26. Peggy says:
