Are We Listening, America?

I saw this quote in comments under an article about the economy and thought it deserved attention:

“The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth.” ~ H.L. Mencken

People today are much different than those of the 30’s and 40’s. Maybe it’s the changing demographics, or perhaps all the entitlements, but more and more people seem to be taking the path of least resistance on every level. It doesn’t surprise me that such people would get angry when told no. They want what they want when they want it and the reasons they can’t or shouldn’t is enough to make them riot!

H.L. Mencken was an over rated jackass and no anthropologist. The only people he actually had a damn clue about were the people he was immersed in. Eastern liberals. He never knew a damn thing about Americans and lived in a world of stereotypes.

Rightly or wrongly I believe that most Americans are not the stupid people liberal fuckwits like H.L. Mencken think they are. While Libby, Chris, and other daily challenge this notion, I still believe, perhaps foolishly, in American exceptionalism.
