“They (democrats) want the GOP to agree to a debt ceiling increase and a continuing resolution to open the government that doesn’t include policy riders, particularly related to Obamacare. But now that the government is closed and the debt limit just two weeks away, leadership on Thursday sought to more explicitly connect the two critical items.” Click here for the original story.Read more: http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/democrats-cr-debt-ceiling-97806.html#ixzz2gli63dEt
Here’s the story behind the story, in about two weeks Congress will reach the limit on the debt ceiling and this will trigger a number of events that will not help a recovering economy. They (dems) need to raise the debt limit or see many of their vote buying pork projects stop growing and in some cases cease, but there are other compelling reasons…legitimate ones that place all American’s at risk.
“”Right now, the debt ceiling is facing us very quickly. We’re talking about the continuing resolution now. It’s hard to separate the two because they’re both right on top of us,” Reid said. “We will act on a clean debt ceiling. The president’s said he’s not going to negotiate on the debt ceiling. He’s not going to negotiate, we aren’t either.”
One of the obsticles to resolving the above is the loathing each of the four key players, Ried-Pelosi and Boehner-McConnell, have for each other. There has never been two sides further apart. They truly can’t stand each other and each believes the other is untrustworthy. Without a resolution to the debt ceiling we really do get into trouble that could hurt the economy and if nothing else, both sides agree on that part.
Nice try. You know, we all read the papers too.
Boehner has already said that the debt ceiling will not be subject to hostage taking. He don’t want to go down in history as the man who sunk the global economy, it seems.
I had a lot of fun this morning imagining the operations that people like Rove must be running right now aimed at bringing the Tea Partiers to heel … make Watergate look like a kindergarten exercise, I have no doubt.
I watched a interview with Jack Lew current US Treasury Secretary.
In response to a question about the OCT 17 run out of money question, he commented that the Treasury has funds arriving on a daily basis. And those funds could be used to extend that date further into the year. He did not seem too comfortable acknowledging that information.
Any more it’s a crap shoot as to is telling us ALL the story.
It is interesting to me which Agencies are getting the blunt of the WH hatchet in furloughing non essential personnel, the heavy reduction of over 85% of the EPA on furlough tells me that is one agency that may bloated beyond its usefulness (tax dollars) to begin with.
oops: Any more it’s a crap shoot as to WHO is telling us ALL the story.
The House is doing what it was designed to do by our Founders. To bad Reid and Obama don’t like the fact the House has control of the “purse strings.”
Here is a good article by Thomas Sowell about who is responsible for the shutdown.
Who Shut Down the Government?:
http://townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/2013/10/04/who-shut-down-the-government-n1716292/page/2
The mask is off…the Democrats have exposed the lie that they are compassionate people. Obama shut down the National Institutes for health as they were about to begin clinical trials for new cancer treatments and he shut down the popular WWII Memorials in Washington and in Europe but kept his favorite golf course open, he kept Camp David open, and according to CNS News, he gave the 445,000,000 to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (PBS, NPR).
This administration is picking winners and losers, pitting Americans against each other, and scraping quite a bit of cream off the top for themselves and their friends, both personal and political. This President does not fulfill the duties of the President. He is the constant campaigner.
Great article Peggy. I especially appreciate this:
They made the decision; they should take responsibility for it rather than lying about it.
“You cannot blame other people for not giving you everything you want.”
He’s right, but he doesn’t realize this applies far more to the Republicans than the Democrats. The ACA has been the law for three years. It was fully funded. It has been upheld by every branch of government. The attempt to defund it was petty, desperate and unserious. Republicans offered nothing in return. They were the ones asking to get “everything [they] want” for nothing in return. They were the ones CHEERLEADING for a damn shutdown, telling us on FOX News that there would be no serious consequences for doing so. It. Is. Their. F***ing. Fault.
The threat of defaulting on our debt payments if the debt ceiling is not raised is another false threat. (Never let a crisis go to waste.) If you were in debt over your head, would you go out and borrow more money? The only purpose in raising the debt ceiling is to borrow more money to fund new spending, not to make payments on previous borrowing. As for default, the payments on the national debt are required by the Constitution–14th Amendment, among other clauses. These payments have the highest priority. They are in the Constitution, unlike Obamacare, food stamps, foreign aid, farm bill, bailouts, diversity training, or any number of discretionary expenditures. Moreover, the payments on the debt only amount to about 10% of the tax income, which is coming in every month.
Thanks Tina, Dr. Sowell has a great mind and presents a logical argument substantiated with facts that can’t be disputed.
Heard Lou Dobbs say tonight ObamaCare is not socialized medicine, but was designed to economically destroy the country.
Also saw on FaceBook. Obama Logic 101: He’ll fence out our vets, but not illegal immigrants.
I hope this whole mess created by Obama and his cronies blows right up in their faces. This country may never recover from the damage they have done to it.
Soaps, as always, has whittled arguments down to the basics. Nicely said.
Peggy I understand Dr. Carson was audited by the IRS right after a speech he made. (The one with Obama sitting near him). He doesn’t think it was a coincidence given the other examples of conservatives being targeted.
Republicans in the House passed a budget.
Republicans in the House have passed bills to fund parks, vets, clinical trials so that other budgetary items could be negotiated.
Republicans set up a meeting for negotiations and showed up ready to talk.
Democrats in the Senate failed to pass a budget and failed to “pass” the Presidents proposed budget…not a budget at all but a list of suggestions.
We have a spending problem in Washington. President Obama and the Democrats bashed George Bush for deficit spending and for growing the debt. A failure to pass a budget in the Senate and then negotiate with the House is a failure to fund government including funds for Obamacare.
Obama in 2006 “Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.'”
Obama in 2008: “The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children … so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic.”
Right after Obama took office he said, “And that’s why today I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office. … I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay.”
Its not legal for the Senate to fail to pass a budget…it’s unpatriotic, it’s irresponsible! The President should be bashing the Senate…taking them to task…if he were leading the nation. But he is not; not in the slightest way. He is just playing politics.
Not passing a budget is a way for Senators to avoid being on record for deficit spending.
The Republicans in the House are doing the only thing left to them given the reckless, irresponsible, unpatriotic, negligent, actions of the President and the Democrats in the Senate.
The IRS has turned into the Russia’s KGB. We now live in fear of an audit, being hit with more fines, penalties and even possible imprisonment just because one dares to speak out against those currently in power.
Auditing Dr. Carson for his speech just feet away from Obama was terrible, but auditing Franklin Graham who endorsed Romney is beyond description. This administration is using the threat of an IRS audit to silence everyone just like the KGB did.
From the Washington Times 10/3/13.
The long line of conservatives targeted by the IRS:
“He (Dr. Carson) said the more serious issue is that the IRS has been politicized — “something that never should have happened” — and that leaves all of its activities open to suspicion.
…the IRS inspector general acknowledged that at least four politicians or political donors have had their personal tax records improperly accessed since 2006. One of those cases involved a willful violation of federal law.
The Justice Department has declined to prosecute any of the cases.
Also this year, Mr. Graham, son of legendary evangelist the Rev. Billy Graham, wrote a letter to Mr. Obama in which he accused the IRS of targeting two of his nonprofit organization for political purposes.
Mr. Graham heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, a worldwide relief group.
In his letter, Mr. Graham said he believes “someone in the administration was targeting and attempting to intimidate us.”

Hopefully, the 2014 and 2016 election will remove these thugs currently in office and replace them with individuals who will govern by our Constitution and within the Bill of Rights.
Wayne Allyn Root is no supporter of Obama which has earned him not just one IRS audit but two. I’ll bet he gets another one soon after his latest article stating Obama IS American born, but committed fraud by presenting himself as a foreign student to gain access to the universities he attended.
From the Blaze.
Obama is 100% Red, White & Blue American Born:
“The fact the leftist media (Rachel Maddow, Jon Stewart, Mother Jones, and others) are so frightened of me, confirms that I’m close to the truth. It explains why Obama sent the IRS to viciously attack me not once, but twice (I won 100 percent victories in both audits). I’ve gotten too close to both the Obama Columbia scandal and the Obama IRS scandal. The closer to the target, the greater the flack.”

Here is more in support of Dr. Sowell’s article by Dr. Harold Pease, an expert on the United States Constitution.
October 2, 2013
Obamacare can be defunded without Senate approval:
When the House passed legislation to defund ObamaCare but would keep the government running through mid-December, the Senate, led by Senate Majority Leader, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) stated that they would not budge on Obamacare and the legislation was defeated.
On Monday, Dr. Harold Pease, an expert on the United States Constitution, stated that the authority in dealing with Obamacare funding belongs to the U.S. House, not the U.S. Senate and that the House is doing this all wrong.
Pease said, “Everything hinged upon funding which was given exclusively to the House of Representatives, the only power that they alone had.”
Pease went on to say, “All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills. To fund anything, in this case Obamacare, first approval is required by the House of Representatives.”
“If that does not happen taxpayer money cannot be spent. The people, through their representatives to Congress, have determined, after a three-year closer scrutiny of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), that it does not protect the patient, is not affordable and is not even workable; hence in the interests of the vast majority of the people needs to be defunded.”
When the United States Supreme Court ruled on Obamacare in 2012, Chief Justice Roberts stance on Obamacare coincides with the intent of the U.S. Constitution, explained by Pease, and the powers between the House and Senate.
According to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Obamacare cannot be implemented and is not considered the law of the land, contrary to Democrat claims.
Bubba Atkinson of the Independent Journal Review, citing conservative blogger, I.M. Citizen, wrote, “Chief Justice Roberts actually ruled the mandate, relative to the commerce clause, was unconstitutional. That is how the Democrats got Obama-care going in the first place. This is critical. His ruling means Congress can’t compel American citizens to purchase anything, ever. The notion is now officially and forever, unconstitutional. As it should be.”
“Next, he stated that, because Congress doesn’t have the ability to mandate, it must, to fund Obama-care, rely on its power to tax. Therefore, the mechanism that funds Obama-care is a tax,” said Atkinson. “He struck down as unconstitutional, the Obama-care idea that the federal government can bully states into complying by yanking their existing medicaid funding. Liberals, through Obama-care, basically said to the states — “comply with Obama-care or we will stop existing funding.” Roberts ruled that is a no-no.”
When the House attached Obamacare to the legislation in funding the government, it made a mistake in doing so and the funding of Obamacare should have been separate, thereby giving the Senate no power in denying the Houses’ request to defund Obamacare.
Pease said, “House opposition to funding Obamacare would have been far more powerful if made a “stand alone” bill not attached to general funding, but it is not. “Stand alone,” having no other parts, would have left the Senate no wiggle or compromise room once it went to them, nor would there be for the Joint Conference Committee thereafter that reconciles any differences between the two houses. There would be nothing to reconcile, Obamacare is merely defunded.”
“Still, the intent of the Founding Fathers was to give the people, through their House of Representatives, the power collectively to say no to any proposed federal tax, which she is decidedly doing.”
[Edited for clarity] If Obamacare is removed from the government budget, presented, and voted on as a separate bill, Obamacare can be defunded by the House. If that is the case, then the Senate and the President can vote yes or no and if the vote is no, then the Obamacare bill can sit in the House with no funding.

Here is Dr. Pease’s original article.
Authority to refuse Obamacare funding belongs to the House alone:
By Dr. Harold Pease
In a 230/189 vote the U.S. House of Representative recently voted to fund the government but defund Obamacare. Can it do so constitutionally? Historically throughout the ages, the people have had little freedom from excessive government which became the cause of the American Revolution. Ramses, an Egyptian Pharaoh, made the Israelite slaves gather their own straw in addition to making the bricks. The greatest concerns of the masses have always been excessive taxation and unpopular wars because the first took their hard earned money and the second potentially their lives. Under the Constitution, and for the first time in history, they could prevent either.
Everything hinged upon funding which was given exclusively to the House of Representatives—the only power that they alone had. “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.” To fund anything, in this case Obamacare, first approval is required by the House of Representatives. If that does not happen taxpayer money cannot be spent. The people, through their representatives to Congress, have determined, after a three-year closer scrutiny of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), that it does not protect the patient, is not affordable and is not even workable; hence in the interests of the vast majority of the people needs to be defunded.
