The slogan, “Remember Pearl Harbor,” may be fading age the WWII generation leaves us but the history of the shock, sacrifice, and unity that followed does not and should not.
“December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy – the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. … Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory. … With confidence in our armed forces – with the unbounded determination of our people – we will gain the inevitable triumph – so help us God.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt
Visit the Time (Life) webpage for photos and historical references like this:
“In the face of an attack so clear that no man could argue it,” LIFE declared to its readers in mid-December, “the nation stood absolutely united. Senator [Burton K.] Wheeler, the leader of the Isolationists, spoke for all when he said: ‘The only thing now is to do our best to lick hell out of them.'”
We are hard pressed to find that kind of unity and loyalty to America and American ideals today. Much could be learned from the example set by this group of humble, dedicated, roll-up-your-sleeves Americans.
Big wow! We fought in WWII, built ships, planes, torpedoes and an atomic bomb in less time then it’s taking to built the ObamaCare website. Now that’s really bad! This once great nation that made all the difference in winning a world war now can’t compete with Amazon.
From an email going around.
WWII And The Obamacare Website:
Let’s put some things into perspective…. The biggest issue of Obamacare isn’t the website, but this makes a great point.
MARCH 21ST 2010 TO OCTOBER 1 2013 IS 3 YEARS, 6 MONTHS, 10 DAYS.
DECEMBER 7, 1941 TO MAY 8, 1945 IS 3 YEARS, 5 MONTHS, 1 DAY.
WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT IN THE TIME WE WERE ATTACKED AT PEARL HARBOR TO THE DAY GERMANY SURRENDERED IS NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR THIS FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT TO BUILD A WORKING WEBPAGE.
MOBILIZATION OF MILLIONS, BUILDING TENS OF THOUSANDS OF TANKS, PLANES, JEEPS, SUBS, CRUISERS, DESTROYERS, TORPEDOES, MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS
OF GUNS, BOMBS, AMMO, ETC. TURNING THE TIDE IN NORTH AFRICA, INVADING ITALY, D-DAY, BATTLE OF THE BULGE, RACE TO BERLIN – ALL WHILE WE WERE ALSO FIGHTING THE JAPANESE IN THE PACIFIC!!
AND THEY CAN’T BUILD A WEBPAGE……… _THINK ABOUT THAT__!_
………….. NO, REALLY THINK ABOUT THAT.
Heard this on Rush’s show Friday and they’re right, it is an utterly amazing comparison. Some of the single missions alone would make for good comparisons.
We do have to really think about it. Can you imagine trying to accomplish the same today with the constraints regulations and restrictions put on everything?
Tina, this country lacks hope for a better life and goals to work for and look forward to.
Kennedy’s space challenge put us on the moon and into outer space. Now we have to hitch hike on a Russian ship.
Reagan’s foreign policies ended the cold war turning all of those fallout shelters into wine cellars. Obama has us living in fear of being attacked again with lots of people becoming doomsday-preppers and survivalist. People are stocking their pantries to save on the ever rising cost of food and life’s necessities and to feed their families for six months to a year if all hell breaks lose.
That hope and change turned into fear and failure. This is no way to live.
Good comparison Peggy. really puts things into perspective. I’m still stunned that Obama was willing to trash a healthcare system that was working, albeit with some defects for a whole new system! In other words, he takes it out on 85% of us who were doing okay for the sake of 15% that weren’t? We didn’t need to trash the whole system to fix that and just wait until people see how much of our tax money is going to insurance companies to shore up ObamaCare! This is the next scandal.
Agree Jack, and remember the Democrats locked out the Republicans from the behind closed door meeting when they came up with this nightmare takeover. The Dems rejected the Republicans recommendation for torte reform to keep their crony trial lawyers happy and to open the market across state lines.
If this bill/law had truly been about providing better health care it wouldn’t have taken away health care from 85% of the people who were happy with what they had to provide for the 15%. This law is about the gov’t taking control of everyone’s lives. Who lives, who dies and who’s going to pay for it.
