Economy Up…Texas Shuts Down Its Border!

Posted by Tina

Since the Feds show little interest in securing our borders Texas did it themselves. An exclusive story from report from Breitbart tells how:

Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst announced a Texas-led three-week effort that he says reduced illegal immigration, smuggling, and human trafficking to a standstill in the Rio Grande River section of the U.S./Mexico border.

The Lt. Governor spoke with me in an interview for Breitbart News; he stated: “In the Rio Grande Valley sector, nearly nothing moved in those three weeks. We shut it down. We had teams of Texas law enforcement in the brush, high altitude aircraft, gun boats, and more,” he explained. “Our intel revealed that the Gulf cartel was growing frustrated with our three-week effort.”

“The border issue is just about dollars and cents,” Dewhurst said. “This proves Texas can do the job the federal government has refused to do — to invest in the border and shut it down from illegal activities that are hurting Texans and other Americans.” He added: “Texas will protect our own citizens and other Americans from the criminal gangs that are destabilizing our state and our nation.”

The plan, according to Dewhurst, was to do a three-week operation with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) as the tip of the spear. He said the effort cost approximately $5 million each month. “We are fixing to appropriate more money,” he said. The Lt. Governor is seeking an additional $60 million to be approved by the State Legislative Budget Board.

Compared to most other states and the US economy the Texas economy is thriving.

Job growth, sales tax collections and building permits all signal that the Texas economy continues to outpace the national economy.

Over the past year, Texas added jobs in all of the 11 major industries, including professional and business services, trade, transportation and utilities, leisure and hospitality, education and health services, construction, mining and logging, government, financial activities, information, other services, and manufacturing.

Pre-recession Texas employment peaked at 10,635,700 in August 2008, a level that was surpassed in September 2011, and by October 2013 Texas added an additional 591,900 jobs. In the U.S. as a whole, only 85 percent of recession-hit jobs were recovered by November 2013.

Why is it so hard for our liberal friends to get that when investors and business are allowed to do their thing, with reasonable approaches to regulation and tax rates, everybody wins? The people benefit from the jobs created and better paying jobs, the poor benefit when resources are not stretched thin from too many who are needy, and governments benefit because of the increase in productivity and sales. Government then has the resources it needs to do things government was meant to do, like securing our borders!

Texas is one of the states that has begun to take back their sovereignty and solve their own problems. Let’s hope more follow suit.

AJ Holder filing lawsuit as we read. Doesn’t Holder have suits against about a half dozen other states already?

    Kudos to Texas!!

  2. Harold says:

The Independence of “can do” proves the lack of effectiveness of a bloated liberal bureaucracy.

  3. Tina says:

Peggy it sure seems like the extremists of the Democrat Party (Now in power) believe in power over the people. This administration and various Congress critters just like to order “folks” around and take from them all they can.

Harold lets hope it gets so over weighted it finally topples. then we can roll up our sleeves and start over!

  4. Pie Guevara says:

I hope the Obama administration goes after Texas like they have Arizona.

Just closed escrow on our new house in Ft. Worth. Drive 10 minutes in any direction and you will see at least one “Now Hiring” sign. In casual conversation with folks we have met, we have described various aspects of the California nanny state. Their jaws drop in amazement. Everyone we have met has been genuinely welcoming and gone out of their way to provide their particular service. Upon hearing that we are moving from California, without fail the first words they say are “Welcome to Texas!”

When the folks from Lowes called to confirm the delivery day of our new clothes drier, they asked “Did ya’all have a washer to go with that drier?” thinking they might have botched our order. We assured them that the order was correct as we had decided we still had some mileage on our old washer, but when it was time to replace it, we would be back.

If you like variety in your weather, this is the place for you. 79 degrees in the afternoon, 30 the next morning, 19 the next with ½ an inch of ice covering everything. After we get settled, I will report back from time to time.

Congrats on the great escape RHT447! I hope you, or should that be, y’all, will be happy beyond your expectations!

  7. Peggy says:

Good for you RHT447. I’m sure Texas will be one of the states that will lead and be an example to others for an economic recovery the current administration has failed to provide.

Glad you’re there to enjoy a better life than what Calif. has and looking forward to hearing how things are going down there.

    Good luck and God bless.

    Mmmmmm. A little light reading:

If offers a fact or two about Texas and it’s contribution to the national ethos.

Libby the left is brilliant when it comes to finding fault…in all the wrong places.
Blame Texas and America. Blame the fact that people believe too strongly in America…blame Ronald Reagan…yeah that’s what makes people go nuts and kill people. America (freedom), Texas, and Ronald Reagan.

People actually read this trash? And you actually believe it?

Intriguing. I thought you might have empathized with the IRS suicide bomber. Maybe the context was just to complicated for you?

But mostly I just put it out for a dig at Texas because, apparently, the fact that he couldn’t even make a living (let alone save for retirement) in Texas was the final straw.

Hopefully, RHT is already retired, so it won’t be an issue.
