Obama SOTU Price Tag: $40 Billion

The National Taxpayers Union Foundation has scored proposals made by the President in his State of the Union address and found that, if enacted into law, they would cost the America taxpayers an additional $40 billion a year, adding to the already high budget and deficit spending. Unfortunately the savings he suggested only amounted to “one item” against “12 proposals to increase outlays and 16 with costs that could not be quantified.” Immigration reform won the top dollar amount at $20.2 billion annually followed by an extention of unemployment insurance for $12.8 billion a year.

The President talks a big game. He says he’s focused on the economy and job creation. But his record and proposals suggest his only agenda is growing the power and expense of big government. The bottom line for all citizens is that the presidents ideas will have an adverse effect on the economy and blunt job creation. The President has betrayed the hopes of the unemployed and underemployed. He has doubled down on efforts to discourage growth:

Brady noted that although the NTUF study does not account for revenue impacts, the President’s call for heavier tax burdens, especially on the energy sector, would adversely affect taxpayers as well. “In coming weeks the White House will put a finer point on both its tax and spending plans with the release of the Fiscal Year 2015 budget,” he concluded. “How sharply this point will hit is on the minds of many taxpayers right now.”

Words are meaningless unless what follows is consistent with what has been articulated. The President has been promising to focus on the econoy and jobs since he was first elected but little progress has been made, in fact we are losong ground. The President admitted as much when he said, “The cold, hard fact is that even in the midst of recovery, too many Americans are working more than ever just to get by, let alone get ahead. And too many still aren’t working at all,” Obama said. “Our job is to reverse these trends.”

And you have not performed well, sir.

January’s jobs report is a sad reflection of the President’s true agenda:

The economy added fewer jobs than expected last month, and more Americans have stopped looking for work — a disappointing development that comes as many economists have expressed optimism that the economic recovery is gaining momentum.

The Labor Department reported on Friday that the economy added 74,000 jobs in December while unemployment fell to 6.7 percent. …

…the drop in December was mostly the result of more people leaving the labor force. The labor force participation rate fell last month from 63 percent to 62.8 percent. A shrinking labor force can be attributed to people no longer looking for jobs because they are discouraged by their prospects of finding work.

The President has spent five years blowing smoke and selling pipe dreams as a diversion. adding another $40 billion to deficit spending will do nothing to create jobs. If the President were sincere his proposals would have included measures that prioritize issues placing job growth first. He would propose ways to shrink the size of government and create tax policy that encourages investment, growth, and the creation of JOBS.

Only 33 million people, 10% of the population bothered to tuned in to the Presidents SOTU address, a statistic that shows the people have lost faith in the President’s words and promises. His speech indicates that he does not really care. Today he’s back on the campaign trail spinning tails and telling lies.
