Medical Update

by Jack

As some of you may know, I’ve been limping along for over a month with severe back pain, which at times has had me flat on my back. Well, the latest MRI results came back today and it wasn’t good. More pain ahead.

Many years ago I suffered a number of back and neck injuries as a police officer, those injuries and some new issues related to the older injuries have flared up again. As a result, I’m dealing with 4 pinched nerves, spinal cord compression, and at least 6 vertebra show signs of acute injury. In short, my doctor said, “You’ve got a lot going on.”

So, now I’m headed to the next level of care, a pain management specialist and physical therapy. The bottom line is this limits my time that I can spend here. However, it’s not going to stop me, only slow me down a little. We discuss a lot of issues here and as long as it’s important to you, then Tina and I will forge on.

Reminder: If you have a helpful and informative article to contribute feel free to send it in to us. Doesn’t matter if you wrote it or if it’s from the news, it only matters that it’s topical (fresh) and informative. We thrive on having the most up to date information on today’s headlines!

Jack I am so sorry to hear you are suffering and facing a tough battle. I sure hope the physical therapy helps. I don’t want to discourage you at all on PS but I do know that a lot of back nerve pain for me has been related to my computer use. It’s my work and my play. anyway I wish you well…take care you. (I’m almost finished with the year end stuff and will have more time soon)

Thank you Tina, I guess it’s all part of the process of getting older. I’ve got one of these high mileage bodies that been though ringer a time or two. So such things are bound to happen.

You know we’ve reached a milestone in life when we wind up seeing more doctors than friends! lol Speaking of…I gone my whole life with only 1 MRI, now I am headed for my second in just one week. Thankfully I don’t live in Canada…would be waiting a long, long, long time for one. But, that’s socialized medicine for ya. Sure hate to see us go that direction.

Can’t keep a good man down. Remember I’m right around the corner almost from you. Shout if you need anything!

Thank you very much for the offer Peggy. I’m currently okay, still mobile and should be on the mend soon. You always do so much for your friends, you’re a true blue giver…that’s something really rare and special these days. I hope you realize that? I do!

Oh so your healthcare plan is working good to hear that!

    • Post Scripts says:

Yes Dewey, my healthcare plan is working fine, it’s medicare with a blue shield and so far, so good. Wish I could say the same for ObamaCare.

  5. Harriet says:

Jack I am sorry you are suffering so much, severe back pain is very difficult to deal with.
Did you try the Doctors at the outpatient clinic of Chico Spine and Vascular? This office is directly across from Nash’s. My husband had the Radio Frequency Ablation, injected with a steroidal compound, did not help him all that much with the back but interestingly had a help with his other maladies.
Other patients there did say the steroidal was very helpful. So again, it is an indivudual thing.
    Good Luck and God Bless

Thank you for your thoughts and kind words Harriet.

This is a chronic thing, unfortunately the older I get seems the more likely it is to flare up and the longer it lasts. This time has been the worst. I’m being referred to a pain specialist, maybe that will be at the Chico Spine and Vascular, I don’t know yet. Right now we’re just waiting for last night’s MRI’s to be evaluated.

Went to therapy at Valponi’s on the Esplanade yesterday and that has provided some relief today. I keep hearing good things about Valponi, so I’m optimistic, but like you said each patient is a little different and results vary. I’ll let folks know how it all goes, because there are a lot of people out here that suffer from debilitating back pain…maybe I’ll come across something they can use? -Jack

  6. J. Soden says:

Can sympathize as I have lower back problems similar to yours. The pain management people can be a godsend, and hope you get some relief there.
Wishing you ALL the best, ’cause you can’t keep a good man down!

  7. Tina says:

Jack I don’t know if your situation calls for it but I have used glucosamine with great success (I’ve been told to stay away from condroitan, however). I don’t know how it works but it does seem to help those connective tissues work as they should.
