Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones met with seven Slavic community leaders Thursday morning to address growing tensions between local Ukrainian and Russian immigrants over Russia’s occupation of Crimea in Ukraine.
The region is home to upward of 100,000 Slavic refugees and their children, the largest concentration in the nation, said Yuriy Korotkov, an immigrant from Moscow and the editor of Diaspora, a Russian language newspaper.
“There are no physical fights yet, but verbal fights are going on everywhere – in churches, in families, in body shops and on the streets,” Korotkov said. “Some Ukrainian people are upset, but personally, I am not guilty, Russian President Vladimir Putin is guilty – he invaded Crimea. I am not Putin, I don’t know what’s going on.”
Jones said that so far, there have not been any altercations that have required law enforcement intervention. He framed his meeting Thursday as a pre-emptive attempt to ensure that remains the case.
“As this escalates, there will probably be violence around the United States between Ukrainians and Russians – I just don’t want it to be here,” Jones said.
The Slavic leaders had shared with him stories of “very low-level heated arguments and some physical confrontations, maybe a little pushing and shoving,” Jones said. “What they’ve seen has really aroused their concern

Don’t know what happened that forced the previous comment to post before I was through. Some sort of key stroke error. I really hate that and should go back to seeking a way to kill all shortcut keys except a few.
Putin will do whatever he damn well pleases because the west has been corrupted by the insidious predominance of weak and inept progressive socialism. And Obama is leading this pack of fools.
On a separate note like fascism and communism, progressivism is statist in nature and alwys seeking to centralize and consolidate political power, be it a city, a state, or an entire country. This is what happens when you let progressives wield power —
