San Ramone CA Middle School Parents “Outraged” – “Horrific” Explicit Sex Education

Posted by Tina

Warning, descriptive material is likely to offend. I won’t re-post. All I can say is, what the heck kind of educators is this country turning out today? The school gave the lame excuse that the material was “produced by Mountain Empire Family Medicine,” not a teacher. Does that matter? The material was still chosen and presented by the school or district.

Mountain Empire Family Medicine issued a statement:

‘Mountain Health recognizes the sensitivity of such material and worked actively with the school district to assure that all information was pre-screened and approved prior to presentation. We work closely with schools in our region to help all community members stay informed on health. ‘We are reviewing the content of the presentation with a special attention to the specific images that have concerned some parents.’

Unh huh…this is all about kids staying “informed on health. Please.

As someone else suggested, it’s time to put up billboards and mail out flyers with these pictures and a recall demand for every school board member.

Also heard Common Core is being dumped by states. Don’t know if this sex ed. material was part of Common Core, but parents are at least becoming aware of what’s going on in their children’s schools.

It’s certainly offensive, though given the adjectives used here I expected it to be much worse.

I appreciate the impulse to make the content…erm, memorable, but it’s sex ed; kids are already paying attention! Definitely a dumb move by this school.

  3. Libby says:

You’ll notice it’s the parents who are distraught, not the middle schoolers.

Chris, you’re gaining experience. Wouldn’t you say that the presentation pretty much nailed the genre: “middle schooler humor”?

However, the whole point of school is to model how they should behave … not how they do.

  4. Chris says:

Peggy: “Don’t know if this sex ed. material was part of Common Core”

And you didn’t even bother to take five seconds to find out that there is not a single standard relating to sex ed within Common Core. Typical.

  5. Toby says:

Why can’t people on the Left ever just say “yep, that is truly disgusting and the people behind it should be punished?” Whatever.

  6. Tina says:

According to CNS news, “The Superintendent of the Mountain Empire School District, Dr. Kathy Granger, says the curriculum is ‘factually and medically accurate.'”

    Isn’t that special!

“However, the whole point of school is to model how they should behave … not how they do.”

Thank you Libby. At the very least the district should take into consideration the diversity of students and their parents and err on the side of morality and decorum.

  7. Tina says:

Chris: “given the adjectives used here I expected it to be much worse.”

    What adjectives would those be?

    I did issue a warning: “…descriptive material is likely to offend. I won’t re-post.”

I thought it was the right thing to do. But I don’t see any scary adjectives in the post or in Peggy’s comment above yours.

  8. Pie Guevara says:

The core message from the left in this story is, “trust us, we know what we are doing.”

  9. Chris says:

Well, Toby, I would definitely support some kind of punishment for whatever school officials decided this would be appropriate for middle schoolers. I can’t trust my students with even the mildest of bawdy humor. I think people should lose their jobs for this.
