Border Refugee Crisis – One Fathers Concern

Posted by Tina

Parents worried about their children are blogging about the influx of children coming across our borders; Trent Telenko at Chicago Boys blog is no exception:

One of the things that changes you, when you become a parent, is the body of knowledge you acquire to protect your spouse and children including things like knowledge of infectious diseases in public schools. In my case that meant looking at the NY Times saying the following: “…the administration has begun to send the expected 240,000 migrants and 52,000 unaccompanied minors who have crossed the border illegally in recent months in the Rio Grande Valley to cities around the county.” And at headlines for the open border crisis like this by Todd Starnes titled “Immigration crisis: Tuberculosis spreading at camps” which caused me to immediately free associate them with a pair of “Tuberculosis in Public School”, headlines, one local to North Texas in 2011 and the other very recently in California. See this 2011 Consumer Health Daily article from Denton Texas “TB Outbreaks in Texas Schools Show Disease Still a Threat – At least 100 people have tested positive for the respiratory ailment” and this 1 July 2014 article from the Sacramento Bee “Four more students test positive for tuberculosis at Grant High.”

As a Texas parent, this idea of TB positive illegal alien children released to illegal immigrant parents scares the heck out of me from the point of view of epidemiology. In the 1920s TB was the eighth leading cause of death for children 1-to-4 years old. Since then American public health has been so effective in preventing it that the USA no longer has any “herd immunity” to TB.

This “catch and release” illegal alien policy is horrible from the infectious disease point of view in that phlegm or aerosolized sputum that are contaminated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis are active biohazards that have long latent infection periods. This makes “exposure” very easy. The clinical definition of TB Exposure — which I found in a University of Vanderbilt student medical file PDF — is the following:

“A person is considered to be exposed if there is shared breathing space with someone with infectious pulmonary or laryngeal tuberculosis at a time when the infectious person is not wearing a mask and the other person is not wearing an N95 respirator. Usually a person has to be in close contact with someone with infectious tuberculosis for a long period of time to become infected; however, some people do become infected after short periods, especially if the contact is in a closed or poorly ventilated space.” (article continues)

We are told we don’t need to worry about any of this and if we do it’s only because we are paranoid. I guess we’ll know in a couple of years just how “paranoid” this parent is…question is will we laugh at him or be devastated by the numbers of Americans affected by this social experiment?

  1. Libby says:

He wants to worry, he can worry about all our anti-science citizen parents who won’t inoculate their children.

And if public schools in Texas are admitting children without a TB test, that’s a problem of Texas’s own creation.

And … we are going to inoculate ALL our temporary residents and it’s going to cost LOTS of money, and you can just writhe and die over it … we’re gonna do it anyway!

  2. Tina says:

Who are those parents who won’t inoculate their children?

    US Health Officials Worry…:

Tuberculosis, one of the world’s deadliest diseases, has long been forgotten by most Americans, but it is re-emerging in a new, virulent form around the world. U.S. health officials now worry that especially dangerous strains of the airborne pathogen have surfaced in Mexico, thanks to a dysfunctional health care system in the country’s poorest regions. And they could spread to the United States.

Here’s one scenario that keeps health officials on edge: A Mexican contracts the disease from a family member, or even a poorly run hospital, and then comes to the United States seeking work. There, living in crowded, cramped conditions without adequate ventilation, he passes it to several other migrants. But instead of promptly seeking medical assistance, the workers shun health care out of fear that they won’t be treated or risk being deported. As a result, the disease festers and spreads.

Dr. Eugene McCray, the chief of the international tuberculosis elimination program at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, considers any legal barriers to care “abysmal, because people are in the community and they are going to transmit disease and it is going to affect Americans. It is very short-sighted.” He said the best way to halt the disease isn’t border protection, but increased collaboration and support to strengthen Mexico’s health system. “For enlightened self-interest, we need to be concerned about tuberculosis,” he said. “It has been totally ignored for many, many years.”

Tuberculosis is a disease of poverty, exacerbated through crowded, dank living conditions and inadequate medical care. When the disease is not treated promptly and aggressively, it can easily pass between people living in close quarters, such as prisoners, refugees, migrant workers and their family members. Over the last decade, poor treatment has contributed to the growth of multidrug resistant (MDR) and extensively drug resistant (XDR) strains of TB, which are more deadly and far more stubborn than older strains.

    Just sayin!

Meanwhile, Obama and his staff yuck it up at a meeting with Texas Governor Perry —

    http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/07/10/photos-obama-laughs-his-way-through-meeting-with-gov-perry/

  4. Libby says:

And I’m just saying that it’s always been a concern. We had a TB scare on the options trading floor of the Pacific Stock Exchange when I worked there. (They will yowl in each other’s faces.)

We know how to deal with this, and anybody who says otherwise is fear-mongering.

  5. Libby says:

Oh, and … you know, those nutjobs who think their kids will get autism. They don’t get autism, but they do get whooping cough.

I think the guy who started it all actually got his license to practice yanked. That’s huge. There are hundreds of other thoroughly documented, roaring incompetents in practice that the AMA won’t take action against.

  6. Peggy says:

My son is a EMT/Paramedic/Firefighter for Sac. Metro Fire Dept. Since EMT/Paramedics are called to care for and transport sick people he and all of the other firefighters have been exposed to the TB outbreak in Sacramento.

He lives in Chico and works with firefighters who live in Fresno, Napa as well as other cities just at his station. There are dozens of stations filled with crews just like his. This disease could spread throughout the state putting all of us at risk.

My son just had to be retested for the active virus. Luckily he was negative this time.

Anyone thinking the disease is no big deal needs to have their head examined. Or if they were too young to remember how the Aids virus spread and how fast it spread needs to do some research.

These kids and adults are coming in with diseases and they will expose us, our kids and grandkids to them. The last word I heard is there is a zero chance of them showing up for their court dates and the new forecast is up to 240,000 by next year.

  7. Peggy says:

    One more thing.

I have two grandkids who attend two different public schools. And I have a daughter in law who is in private practice who she sees kids, and adults who work at Costco and attend Chico state.

  8. Tina says:

The worst part about it is that it’s a new resistant strain.

  9. Peggy says:

Yahoo!!!! Now, we’re getting somewhere. Can’t wait to see her in handcuffs and behind bars.

GOP Congressman: ‘We Just Filed a Resolution Directing the Sergeant-at-Arms to Arrest Lois Lerner for Contempt’:

“Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) announced on Thursday that he has filed a resolution directing the House sergeant-at-arms to “arrest Lois Lerner for contempt of Congress” over the IRS targeting scandal.

Stockman said in a statement that asking the U.S. Department of Justice to prosecute Lerner for “admittedly illegal activity” is a “joke.” Instead, the Republican said it is up to the U.S. House to “uphold the rule of law and hold accountable those who illegally targeted American citizens for simply having different ideas than the President.”

Under the proposed resolution, Lerner would be held in a Washington, D.C., jail and would be given access to an attorney and all her constitutional rights.”

Pie the President looks like a thirteen year old miscreant sitting in the principles office.

  11. Post Scripts says:

I’m not sure how anyone would know what diseases the illegals are bringing as the media is not allowed free access to the camps. We can’t ascertain if the kids are being well cared for or if they are sick or whatever else may be of concern because a lid has been placed on knowing what is going on inside these camps. This IS still America isn’t it?

  12. Tina says:

The lid must have snapped shut when they discovered border guards with scabies because when the story first broke there were pictures…one with kids packed into what looked like a chain-link fenced in dog run. See also here:

President Barack Obama announced on June 15, 2012 that the U.S. would stop deporting young illegal immigrants who satisfied a broad set of criteria; the move has enticed tens of thousands of children to sneak across the border even though the policy doesn’t apply to them.

As the President once said himself, words mean things.

Now we know reporters, and at least one lawmaker, have been denied access and border patrol and health care professionals have been ordered not to talk to anyone about what they are observing.

    Remember this guy?

We knew all along he didn’t mean it.

  13. Pie Guevara says:

Blaming vaccinations for autism is like blaming soft drinks for left wing lunacy.

  14. Libby says:

“’m not sure how anyone would know what diseases the illegals are bringing as the media is not allowed free access to the camps.”

    Fear-mongering.

  15. Tina says:

    Breitbart:

On Saturday, a second illegal immigrant youth was confirmed to have swine flu, which is known as the H1N1 virus.

According to Action 4 News in Texas, “Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council #3307 Chris Cabrera confirmed the cases late Saturday morning.” Cabrera told the outlet “that one case was confirmed at the Brownsville Border Patrol Station and another at the Fort Brown Border Patrol station, also located in Brownsville.”

The first case of swine flu was confirmed last week, and Cabrera said that “an estimated 120 people are being isolated at the two stations because they were exposed to the” illegal immigrant youth who had swine flu. Cabrera said that, “if someone is released and they are symptomatic, it could spread rapidly”

Cabrera also said that medical teams are screening illegal immigrant youth who are flooding across the border “for lice, scabies and chicken pox” and “not everyone gets medical clearance.”

Breitbart’s Dr. Susan Berry has reported that medical specialists and doctors are concerned about other virulent diseases like tuberculosis and the Norovirus.

Dr. Jane Orient, “an internal medicine specialist and the Executive Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS),” warned that the country was “one outbreak” away from having to deal with “an overwhelming public health crisis” because of the influx of illegal immigrant children coming across the border from Central America.

And like the guns that walked into Mexico and disappeared so will many of these kids.

It isn’t fear you silly woman…it is outrage! Both about and for these kids that are being used as pawns in the President’s evil plot to “fundamentally transform” America. None of you give a rats butt for these kids or their families.

The President, and his cadre of socialist users are irresponsibly dopey and devious, if you can imagine something that horrid and strange, and you are a silly fool.

    Excerpt —

“I had my son’s life STOLEN from me by a man who didn’t value his life, was 3X the legal limit drunk, was high on Meth, drove for over 35 miles THE WRONG WAY on 4 different freeways and had NO BUSINESS BEING IN THIS COUNTRY!!!

“The Federal Government knew he, Raul Silva Corona , was an illegal immigrant when he was convicted on crimes in 1994 in Colorado. The prosecutors were “lenient” on him and several charges were dismissed. When he was convicted of these crimes and 1994 and the government knew he was in the country illegally, why wasn’t he deported? Why are any of these illegal criminals in this country ??

“I am furious that the Federal Government allowed this criminal to stay in this country and KILL my son!

“Both about and for these kids that are being used as pawns in the President’s evil plot to “fundamentally transform” America.”

    And this … is paranoid.

  18. Peggy says:

I too had a dear friend killed, by a drunk illegal immigrant driving a hot-red Mustang, in a head-on collision. Ray died after three days of clinging to life, Patty, his wife and Claire, Patty’s mother spent over a week in the hospital with broken arms, legs and ribs.

The illegal immigrant, who was driving without a license or insurance, survived and disappeared.

Off Topic: From the For Crying Out Loud Department

On the Giants’ “Native American Heritage Night, two groups of fans had a disagreement over the issue of what should and shouldn’t be worn.

“SF Examiner reported two Native American fans asked a third fan, who appeared to be Caucasian, to remove a headdress he was wearing.”

One offended woman who demanded the man remove the Plains Indian warbonnet was ejected from the Giants baseball stadium (evidently she blew a gasket).

San Francisco Giants May Ban ‘Culturally Insensitive’ Attire At AT&T Park

    http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2014/07/09/san-francisco-giants-may-ban-culturally-insensitive-attire-at-att-park/

I guess wearing if you are white and you choose to wear American Indian accoutrements to honor and enjoy Native American Night at a baseball game that is as offensive as if some white guy were to wear black-face at the Giants’ African American Heritage Night.

Remember, only blacks can use the n-word and only American Indian sports teams can use the r-word, or so it is fast becoming.

    From Wikipedia —

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redskin_%28slang%29

In the United States, “redskin” is regarded as a racial epithet by some,[35] neutral by some people,[36] including some Native Americans.[37] Three predominately Native American schools use the name for their athletic teams, most notably the 98% Native American enrollment of the Red Mesa High School in Teec Nos Pos, Arizona.[38][39][40] Supporters of the Washington team often cite Red Mesa as justification for stating that the name is acceptable to all Native Americans.[41] However the principal of the school said that use of the word outside American Indian communities should be avoided because it could perpetuate “the legacy of negativity that the term has created.”[42]

Personally, I think the word ‘Redskin’ — which in it’s history has not always been used as an offensive racial epithet (see Wikipedia article linked above) — should not be allowed to be permanently turned into an offensive racial epithet by the politically correct crowd. Turn ‘Redskin’ into something American Indians are proud of (some are already proud of it, maybe even many are), and don’t treat it as a racial slur.

But it looks like that battle is lost. Some people live to be offended.

  20. Tina says:

BS it is. The man stood in front of the camera’s and boldly told the world it was his intention to fundamentally transform the country. Everything he’s done since then has negatively impacted the nation and undermined our laws, including making sure that the checks and balances system remains broken. You are either complicit or a tool. These kids are being used and will receive the usual crumbs from elitist tables until they can acquire jobs that “Americans won’t do”.

    CIS:

A new analysis of government data shows that two-thirds of the net increase in employment since President Obama took office has gone to immigrant workers, primarily legal immigrants. Although the level of new immigration overall has fallen, legal immigration remains very high. While economists debate the extent to which immigrants displace natives, the new data make clear that there is no general labor shortage in the United States. This analysis calls into question the wisdom of bringing in more than a million new legal immigrants each year at a time when the employment situation remains bleak.

Immigrants made employment gains across the labor market. In occupations where immigrant gains were the largest, there were 2.2 million unemployed natives.

A large share of employment growth was going to immigrants well before President Obama took office. However, he has taken steps to increase the level of job competition from foreign-born workers:

He offered work authorization to an estimated two million illegal immigrants who arrived in the country before age 16 — nearly 200,000 of whom have applied so far.

When auditing employers who hire illegal workers, the administration has not detained the illegal workers as a matter of policy, allowing them to take new jobs.

The administration called on the Supreme Court in 2010 to strike down Arizona’s law requiring employers to verify the legal status of new workers.

The President is working with radical elements in the group, “La Raza (the race).

    Politico:

President Barack Obama will appoint Cecilia Muñoz, the administration’s lead liaison to the Hispanic community, as the next director of the Domestic Policy Council, the White House announced Tuesday.

The appointment elevates a respected figure among Hispanic advocates at the start of an election year in which Latinos likely will play a key role in several swing states. Muñoz is known for her work on immigration reform as the current White House director of intergovernmental affairs and as a senior vice president of the National Council of La Raza before Obama tapped her for the administration in 2009.

The United States government is funding the National Council of La Raza with our tax dollars. La Raza, which literally means in Spanish “The Race,” is a radical organization that advocates open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens. I pulled and analyzed the tax return Form 990, the form filed by 501(c) 3 organizations to the IRS, and here is what was reported:

Government Grants (contributions) to the National Council of La Raza

    2008 Tax Returns, (October 1 2008 to September 30, 2009) $5,136,535

    2007 Tax Returns $3,458,351

    2006 Tax Returns $3,353,319

    Three Year Total $11,948,205

What do people get paid at La Raza?

According to the 2008 tax returns seventeen people listed as officers, directors, trustees, key employees and highest compensated employees of the National Council of La Raza have an income ranging from $119,675 to $378,446, the latter of which goes to Janet Murguia, president and CEO.

To put that income figure in perspective a rank and file United States Senator makes $174,000. A United States Marine Sergeant with five years of service earns a base salary of $29,376, including the raise received for 2011.

    Lobbying:

Part II, Section 1b indicates lobbying expenditures to influence a legislative body amounted to $550,787.

Section 1g indicates lobbying expenditures to “Grassroots nontaxable amount.” of $250,000.

Here is the quick analysis: The US government pays La Raza to lobby the US government for money.

501c4 organizations are allowed to engage in political activity. 501c3’s are limited to charitable activities alone:

To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.

Organizations described in section 501(c)(3) are commonly referred to as charitable organizations. Organizations described in section 501(c)(3), other than testing for public safety organizations, are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Code section 170.

The organization must not be organized or operated for the benefit of private interests, and no part of a section 501(c)(3) organization’s net earnings may inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual. If the organization engages in an excess benefit transaction with a person having substantial influence over the organization, an excise tax may be imposed on the person and any organization managers agreeing to the transaction.

Blatant disregard for our laws, radical organizing, and covert alliances to undermine stability in our country is what we have…and it’s all done on purpose.

  21. Libby says:

“The illegal immigrant, who was driving without a license or insurance, survived and disappeared.”

And your point? A legal resident could, and I believe does, on near daily basis, perpetrate an identical offence.

  22. Chris says:

Texas Republicans post racist anti-immigrant screed:

“You know those people who say that they’re against allowing more immigrants but that “it’s not about race”?

    Guess what?

    It’s about race.

At least for those Texas Republican convention delegates who undermined their party’s former guest-worker platform, it really wasn’t about enforcement or reducing immigration.

No, if you read the “Protect” delegates’ convention Facebook page, they reprinted this Thursday from a California restrictionist group protesting at Murrieta, Calif.:

“Americans are not breeding while ‘the bronze master race is.’ … We will die out and they will win.”

There you have it. A major Texas Republican faction that just successfully rewrote the platform is publishing warnings about Central American child detainees arriving as part of an “agenda” for a “bronze master race.”

It’s not about legal or illegal.

    It’s about bronze.

The Protect page has 932 followers, including several Tarrant County Republican precinct chairs and party officers. It does not identify an author, editor or administrator.

One of the page’s frequent posters is also identified in an online profile as a Dallas member of the John Birch Society, the radical 1960s organization that fears all kinds of worldwide communist conspiracies, including a supposed U.S. plot to subvert borders and operate as a North American Union.

I’m not sure exactly how that fits with The Great Bronze Takeover.

But I know that by midday Saturday, not one of the page’s followers — almost all Republican delegates from the state convention two weeks ago in Fort Worth — had objected or disagreed.

Look, we might debate how to enforce borders, how to manage child detainees and whether to eventually keep others who came unlawfully but now live, work and pay taxes here peacefully and commendably.

But preaching racial hatred against children does not belong in the Republican Party, Texas or America.”

It figures that the English major boob would participate in smearing the GOP with this isolated crap from a few.

Ever hear of the racist Mexican KKK, La Raza, or similarly racists Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA)? Both these organizations are connected to each other although they claim to have distanced themselves from each other.

Both these extremist, racist, radical groups advocate a reconquest of the US by the superior “new race” (Hispanics) who are the descendants of Mexicans and Spaniards and Central and South Americans indigenous peoples and Spaniards.

Are all Hispanics to be judged by these racist radical extremist groups who in their own way advocate a “bronze” revolution? Should the Democratic party which embraces these two groups be judged by there inherent racism?

Go blow your smoke elsewhere, English major boy. It isn’t about race, puppy, it is about stemming the flood of illegal aliens. Something the ridiculous Barack Obama claims, alternatively, he is for and against.

    “bronze master race.”

It isn’t racist if it is the agenda of those helping to bring people into this country ILLEGALLY!!!!!

People in Texas have been living an working side by side with Mexicans since before they fought together for Texas statehood.
The radical Marxist macho elements have a goal ad it is a “bronze master race.”

    Human Events:

The nation’s television screens many days recently have been filled with scenes of huge crowds carrying the colorful green and red flag of Mexico viewers could well have thought it was a national holiday in Mexico City.

It was instead, downtown Los Angeles, Calif., although the scene was recreated in numerous other cities around the country with substantial Mexican populations. Hordes of Mexican expatriates, many here illegally, were protesting the very U.S. immigration laws they were violating with impunity. They found it offensive and a violation of their rights that the U.S. dared to have immigration laws to begin with.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa mounted the podium, but any hopes that he would quiet the crowds and defend the law were soon dashed. Villaraigosa, himself, has spent a lifetime opposing U.S. immigration law.

For law-abiding Americans without knowledge of the dark side of our current illegal immigration crisis, all this is unfathomable. For those who know the truth about the “La Raza” movement, these demonstrations were a prophecy fulfilled.

It is past time for all Americans to know what is at the root of this outrageous behavior, and the extent to which the nation is at risk because of “La Raza” — The Race. …

… Behind the respectable front of the National Council of La Raza lies the real agenda of the La Raza movement, the agenda that led to those thousands of illegal immigrants in the streets of American cities, waving Mexican flags, brazenly defying our laws, and demanding concessions.

Key among the secondary organizations is the radical racist group Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, or Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA), one of the most anti-American groups in the country, which has permeated U.S. campuses since the 1960s, and continues its push to carve a racist nation out of the American West.

One of America’s greatest strengths has always been taking in immigrants from cultures around the world, and assimilating them into our country as Americans. By being citizens of the U.S. we are Americans first, and only, in our national loyalties.

This is totally opposed by MEChA for the hordes of illegal immigrants pouring across our borders, to whom they say:

“Chicano is our identity; it defines who we are as people. It rejects the notion that we…should assimilate into the Anglo-American melting pot…Aztlan was the legendary homeland of the Aztecas … It became synonymous with the vast territories of the Southwest, brutally stolen from a Mexican people marginalized and betrayed by the hostile custodians of the Manifest Destiny.” (Statement on University of Oregon MEChA Website, Jan. 3, 2006)

There are many immigrant groups joined in the overall “La Raza” movement. The most prominent and mainstream organization is the National Council de La Raza — the Council of “The Race”.

To most of the mainstream media, most members of Congress, and even many of their own members, the National Council of La Raza is no more than a Hispanic Rotary Club.

But the National Council of La Raza succeeded in raking in over $15.2 million in federal grants last year alone, of which $7.9 million was in U.S. Department of Education grants for Charter Schools, and undisclosed amounts were for get-out-the-vote efforts supporting La Raza political positions.

The Council of La Raza succeeded in having itself added to congressional hearings by Republican House and Senate leaders. And an anonymous senator even gave the Council of La Raza an extra $4 million in earmarked taxpayer money, supposedly for “housing reform,” while La Raza continues to lobby the Senate for virtual open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.
The Mexican flag flew over a crowd of pro-amnesty marchers in New York. Marches like this across the U.S. have been supported by the “La Raza” movement. (Reuters/Seth Wenig)…

MEChA isn’t at all shy about their goals, or their views of other races. Their founding principles are contained in these words in “El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan” (The Spiritual Plan for Aztlan):

“In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal gringo invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny. … Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. … We are a bronze people with a bronze culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan. For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada.”

That closing two-sentence motto is chilling to everyone who values equal rights for all. It says: “For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing.”

If these morally sickening MEChA quotes were coming from some fringe website, Americans could at least console themselves that it was just a small group of nuts behind it. Nearly every racial and ethnic group has some shady characters and positions in its past and some unbalanced individuals today claiming racial superiority and demanding separatism. But this is coming straight from the official MEChA sites at Georgetown University, the University of Texas, UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Colorado, University of Oregon, and many other colleges and universities around the country.

    FBI:

Gangs are increasingly engaging in non-traditional gang-related crime, such as alien smuggling, human trafficking, and prostitution. Gangs are also engaging in white-collar crime such as counterfeiting, identity theft, and mortgage fraud, primarily due to the high profitability and much lower visibility and risk of detection and punishment than drug and weapons trafficking.

US-based gangs have established strong working relationships with Central American and MDTOs to perpetrate illicit cross-border activity, as well as with some organized crime groups in some regions of the United States. US-based gangs and MDTOs are establishing wide-reaching drug networks; assisting in the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and illegal immigrants along the Southwest Border; and serving as enforcers for MDTO interests on the US side of the border.
Many gang members continue to engage in gang activity while incarcerated. Family members play pivotal roles in assisting or facilitating gang activities and recruitment during a gang members’ incarceration. Gang members in some correctional facilities are adopting radical religious views while incarcerated.
Gangs encourage members, associates, and relatives to obtain law enforcement, judiciary, or legal employment in order to gather information on rival gangs and law enforcement operations. Gang infiltration of the military continues to pose a significant criminal threat, as members of at least 53 gangs have been identified on both domestic and international military installations. Gang members who learn advanced weaponry and combat techniques in the military are at risk of employing these skills on the street when they return to their communities.

Gang members are acquiring high-powered, military-style weapons and equipment which poses a significant threat because of the potential to engage in lethal encounters with law enforcement officers and civilians. Typically firearms are acquired through illegal purchases; straw purchases via surrogates or middle-men, and thefts from individuals, vehicles, residences and commercial establishments. Gang members also target military and law enforcement officials, facilities, and vehicles to obtain weapons, ammunition, body armor, police gear, badges, uniforms, and official identification. …

…Gang involvement in alien smuggling, human trafficking, and prostitution is increasing primarily due to their higher profitability and lower risks of detection and punishment than that of drug and weapons trafficking. Over the past year, federal, state, and local law enforcement officials in at least 35 states and US territories have reported that gangs in their jurisdictions are involved in alien smuggling, human trafficking, or prostitution.f

    Alien Smuggling

Many street gangs are becoming involved in alien smuggling as a source of revenue. According to US law enforcement officials, tremendous incentive exists for gangs to diversify their criminal enterprises to include alien smuggling, which can be more lucrative and less risky than the illicit drug trade. Over the past two years numerous federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies nationwide have reported gang involvement in incidents of alien smuggling. In some instances, gang members were among those being smuggled across the border into the United States following deportation. In other cases, gang members facilitated the movement of migrants across the US-Mexico border.

The Barrio Azteca, Mexican Mafia, MS-13, 18th Street Gang, and Somali gangs have all reportedly been involved in alien smuggling, according to NGIC and law enforcement reporting.

In October 2009, ICE agents in Los Angeles, California, arrested suspects linked to a drug trafficking and alien smuggling ring with close ties to the Drew Street clique of the Avenues (Sureño) street gang in Los Angeles. The ring allegedly smuggled more than 200 illegal aliens per year into the United States from Mexico, concealing them in trucks and hidden compartments of vehicles and then hiding them in a store house in Los Angeles (See Figure 6).15

    Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is another source of revenue for some gangs. Victims—typically women and children—are often forced, coerced, or led with fraudulent pretense into prostitution and forced labor.16 The Bloods, MS-13, Sureños, and Somali gangs have been reportedly involved in human trafficking, according to multiple law enforcement and NGIC reporting.

While you and Libby fret over imagined racism by republicans the rest of us have noticed a serious and growing threat to the very thing that allows all of us freedom, equality and opportunity…not to mention living in a safe environment!

Chris you are ignorant and naive! What’s sick is that you choose to be ignorant and to remain naive. But your college days are over; this is the real world. This isn’t about feelings for or acceptance of various peoples. It is about preserving our nation and its heritage of freedom, equality, justice, and opportunity through self reliance for anyone of any race who wants and will support our system of government…and is willing to abide by our laws.

You better get behind the group that is interested in preservation or the racists of these radical groups will show you what racism looks like as opposed to that PC crap you’ve been entertaining in college.

    #21 Libby,

My point is my friend would be alive today if that illegal hadn’t been in that powerful speeding car that night.

A legal resident with a license and insurance would have data that could have been traced to his home and possible place of work.

The guy that killed my friend had no ID and probably used a fake name. How you going to find someone that doesn’t even exist?

Geez, Libby how about rubbing those two brain cells you have together and see if you can generate two more.

Turns out Soros funded groups are helping to orchestrate and plan protests (activist mayhem) during the coming election year:

headline suggests that this is just the beginning of a highly orchestrated national effort:

Event is Part of Nationwide Actions to Stop the Immigrant Lock-up Quota and Immigrant Detention

This well financed email campaign was sent out from someone at Fitzgibbon Media, a progressive PR firm. Seems costly for another “grassroots” movement, but this is no low budget group. Sponsored by Soros’ Tides Foundation and sharing the same floor at a Washington DC office building with Jim Wallis’ Sojourners and Fund for the Republic (a Lawrence Lessig/Mark McKinnon related effort to get their campaign finance reform back in place), this movement comes from the same place as all the rest.

Members of the Detention Watch Network include the ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Ctr., Ella Baker Ctr. for Human Rights among others.

According to this linked report, they also report their findings directly to the UN.

If this isn’t part of a coordinated political effort to undermine American sovereignty and our Constitution I will, as they say, eat my hat.

  29. Libby says:

Or it could have been a citizen. That it wasn’t was pure chance.

How do you think the authorities found out that the driver was illegal? And a legal resident could just as easily have skipped.

The guy that killed my friend had no ID and probably used a fake name. How you going to find someone that doesn’t even exist?

But they did know who he was. You said so. You said they knew he was illegal and and that he fled.

And how about you learn to see beyond the end of your prejudiced nose. The fact that the felon was undocumented is simply not relevant. This country is full of legally documented drunk drivers who wreak havoc every freaking hour of every freaking day. You are obsessing over a fact of no relevance to anybody … but a bigot.

My friend was killed THAT night by THAT man, not some individual you’ve conjured up in your mind.

No Libby, a legal resident can’t skip just as easily. People here legally have read IDs, Soc. Sec. numbers, drivers licenses, etc. Therefore, they can be tracked fairly easily and even stopped from fleeing the country if they try.

Illegals purchase fake IDs and use stolen SS # and if they decided to head back across the border into Mexico do you really think our border patrol will stop them?

And how about you understand about the real world we live in and the facts for what they are and stop living in that imaginary world you’ve created in your head.

Yes, Libby this country is full of, “legally documented drunk drivers who wreak havoc every freaking hour of every freaking day.” The news is full of their being arrested, the trial and their sentencing. But, what you don’t see is the same news coverage for ILLEGALS who kill here. Other than a small paragraph or two about the accident in the local newspaper or 5 minute spot on the local TV and the death notice in the obituaries that’s all those who are killed by illegals gets when the killer disappears.

“You are obsessing over a fact of no relevance to anybody … but a bigot.”

You know Libby I knew liberal/progressives could be cold-hearted S.O.B. but you win the award for the biggest ass#$%^. Ray was just a dear friend to me, but I doubt his wife would agree with you that the fact that she lost her husband has no relevance to anybody.

I’m not a bigot and neither is she, what she is now is a WIDOW, because our borders are still not secure and idiots like you defend them being here without being held accountable to OUR laws.

Have you heard about Sgt. Tahmooressi? He took a wrong turn and accidently ended up in Mexico. He had just moved to San Diego for PTSD treatment and had everything in his truck, which included three guns. Because of those guns he’s been in prison for over 100 days. Mexico won’t just release him because they say they are a nation of laws. His next hearing will be in August and faces spending 5-20 years in a Mexican prison because he got lost and ended up in Mexico.

“Barack will go down as the worth president ever elected,” one man told Rebel Pundit. “Bill Clinton was the African-American President.”

“Harry Reid is the da Vinci of distraction,” reads the editorial from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which was posted online Friday.

“The moment any scandal, policy failure or political defeat crashes down on him — and there have been plenty the past few years — the Senate majority leader unleashes outrageous rhetoric,” the editorial continues, adding that Reid “has become especially fond of slinging race cards just to crank up the outrage.”

“Sen. Reid’s slip was no accident,” reads the Review-Journal editorial. “He believes racial and ethnic minorities are ideologically monolithic constituencies who are incapable of independent or — gasp! — right-of-center thinking.”

“In the majority leader’s mind, Mr. Thomas is not an African-American because the justice doesn’t blindly subscribe to liberal orthodoxy,” the paper wrote, before pointing out other examples of Reid compartmentalizing minorities.”

  39. Tina says:

Chris: “So using anecdotal evidence about crimes committed by immigrants really is just fear mongering.”

Making excuses for people that have already broken the law just by crossing the border without going through our immigration process is pretty deplorable too but making excuses for criminals that have come here illegally and committed murder or rape is really depraved. The fact that there are fewer of them in a smaller population is meaningless. Does it change the fact that we have to deal with them in our already loaded prisons and courts and pay for their incarceration? No. Does it change the fact that Americans become their victims? No!

These are not positions to address the issue at all. They are positions that further the notion that our borders should be open. Is that hat you favor Chris…Libby? If so just say so and save all of us the time and effort.

You act like illegal crossings are acceptable? why? why shouldn’t people who want to come here go through the legal process? And why, when they do not and they commit a crime should anyone hold back their outrage? Illegal entry is an outrageous added layer of both criminal activity and added financial and services burden.

Our nation should have control of our borders.

If liberals want to express their sympathy let them create or find ways to help people within their own borders.

  40. Pie Guevara says:

Re #34 Chris: “The fact is that undocumented immigrants are actually less likely to commit crimes than legal residents.”

Who said this is about what group commits more crimes? All illegal aliens have committed AT LEAST ONE CRIME by entering this country illegally in the first place (ya dope).

What this is about is the additional and system breaking pressures put on law enforcement, the judicial system, the health care system, the welfare system, and the failure to imprison or deport recalcitrant illegal immigrant criminals who commit multiple crimes.

Nice try at diverting the issue, Major Boob. This is not about “fear mongering” you contemptible, stupid, slur mongering left wing idiot, it is about facing reality. Nevertheless, even Epic Fail Boy would be impressed with your specious dodge of the issues at hand. The rest of us are not.

  41. Libby says:

Why would I do that? Til now, he’s been deported. Now, he’s going to jail. What else do you think is supposed to happen?

I do fail to comprehend the moral or legal difference between a documented and undocumented child molestor. Both are heinous.

I’m saying that it makes no sense for you be, as you seemingly are, MORE insensed by an undocumented drunk driver, or child molester or whichever felonious scum-bucket … than by a documented one.

  42. Chris says:

Tina: “And why, when they do not and they commit a crime should anyone hold back their outrage? Illegal entry is an outrageous added layer of both criminal activity and added financial and services burden.”

Pie: “Who said this is about what group commits more crimes? All illegal aliens have committed AT LEAST ONE CRIME by entering this country illegally in the first place (ya dope).”

While you are right that illegal entry is a criminal offense, about half of all illegal immigrants do enter legally, but lose legal status when their visa expires. The half that actually crosses the border illegally have committed a criminal offense, but the other half have committed a civil offense, not a crime.

    http://www.nj.com/morristown/index.ssf/2008/04/christie_clarifies_illegal_imm.html

No one has made “excuses” for crimes committed by illegal immigrants, so shove the strawman arguments, Tina and Peggy. And please don’t try and deny that you are attempting to associate undocumented immigrants with crime, because that’s exactly what you’re doing, otherwise you wouldn’t even bring up the examples of crimes committed by individual immigrants. I disagree with CATO quite a lot, but their critiques of right-wing immigration rhetoric are on point.

  43. Peggy says:

#43 Libby: “I’m saying that it makes no sense for you be, as you seemingly are, MORE insensed by an undocumented drunk driver, or child molester or whichever felonious scum-bucket … than by a documented one.”

Are you really that dense? I’m not more “insensed” (need a dictionary Libby) by either. I’m incensed that both the child molesting and killing were committed by illegals who should not have been in the US to commit either crime. If they hadn’t been in the US neither crime would have been committed. They would NOT have been here. I don’t know how to make it more clear to you.

You can’t seriously be arguing that the little girl would have been molested any way by someone else, so what’s the big difference. That’s insane.

Think Libby, think. Come on I know you can do it.

  44. Pie Guevara says:

Re #44 Major Boob Nonsense: “While you are right that illegal entry is a criminal offense, about half of all illegal immigrants do enter legally, but lose legal status when their visa expires. The half that actually crosses the border illegally have committed a criminal offense, but the other half have committed a civil offense, not a crime.”

No I am not half right, I am 100% correct: TRY READING AND COMPREHENDING WHAT I ACTUALLY WROTE —

“All illegal aliens have committed AT LEAST ONE CRIME by entering this country illegally in the first place (ya dope).

What part of “entering this country illegally” do you not understand? I was not addressing expired visas and you are splitting linguistic hairs at an attempt to divert the issue. Nice try.

The illegal alien is, in fact, breaking the law by not leaving after his visa has expired. Breaking the law is generally considered a crime by us lay persons but the legally defined “civil offense” it is treated differently than a legally defined “criminal offense”. The parameters to obtain a conviction are are different between a civil case that in a criminal case. (You might want to go look those up.)

Nevertheless breaking the law is breaking the law, and that is a still the act of a criminal scofflaw no matter how the behavior is rigorously defined legally between civil and criminal cases.

But to please you, Major Boob, I shall rephrase —

All illegal aliens have committed AT LEAST ONE CRIME by entering this country illegally in the first place or have committed AT LEAST ON LAW BREAKING CIVIL OFFENSE by remaining after their legal visa has expired (ya dope).”

    Happy now? 😀
