“What do We Want? Dead Cops” – NYC Crowd Chants

by Jack

Dec 13 – The protest called by Rev. Al Sharpton in NYC over allegations of excessive force used by the police drew thousands. Most of them were peaceful, but a group of several hundred began chanting, “What do we want? Dead Cops!” While this didn’t represent the feelings of everyone, the fact that hundreds of mostly Black protesters were involved should not be casually dismissed, this was a significant number and shows an escalating attitude beyond just chanting “Black Lives Matter.”linsker

Along the parade route police were station to stop traffic and to protect the protesters, because certainly there were those in New York who did not appreciate the disruption or the threats of violence. The officers came under attack by a 29 year old college professor, Eric Linsker, of Crown Heights. Linsker allegedly hurled a metal garbage can at two police lieutenants. This sparked a melee and the two officers were beaten by protesters before other officers could come to their aid. Inside Linsker’s backpack police found a bundle of new hammers.

A grinning Linsker was quickly arraigned and was released on his own recognizance, despite the objections of the deputy district attorney. He was confirmed to be teaching at least one English Composition class at Baruch College.

Time to arrest the riot/violence instigators. Sharpton & Jackson come to mind, along with our clown AG AND his boss!

  2. Harold says:

Your point is well taken Jack, and well intentioned. And you could not be more correct.
The NAACP, And Al Sharpton along with the Jessie Jacksons of the country, insisting people like this Linsker seek common ground when racism can be injected into the dynamic. That after all is how they have made their notoriety count all of their disgusting lives.

    • Post Scripts says:

Harold, thanks for your comments. It’s interesting to note that not everyone at that rally was impressed by Sharpton, in fact a number of them walked away when he started spouting off.

  3. Tina says:

People can chant whatever they want, I guess, but this garbage doesn’t attract my support.

The apologists for this kind of protest, including the mild mannered Juan Williams, amaze me. He insists that the 100 or so radical cop haters in the bunch screaming for dead cops are pretty insignificant. I disagree. This kind of radical protest did a lot of damage in the sixties and seventies and created a miserable atmosphere in America. Juan said today that this was an example of folks going out to petition the government. But this isn’t peaceful assembly or a civil way to petition the government. It is the way of anarchist revolutionaries who seek division and strife as a means to absolute power.

I would think anyone serious about addressing what they see as a problem with police would loudly condemn what occurred in NYC. Trouble is, peaceful protesters don’t really want to take on this mob either. They should be able to depend on the police…but…gee, they’ve made them the target.

I see this protest as trumped up and political. If it continues into the summer we can expect violence and a great deal of antipathy in the public generally.

I would hope this would be the end to the professors career but if Bill Ayers is any indication….

MLK had several things going for him, one was a palpable, very real set of grievances. The second was that everyone knew that what was going on was indecent, immoral, and unjust (Even some of those engaging in bigotry and racism knew). Third, he had a a large population that had been religiously raised and taught to be civil beyond reproach.

A nation that has witnessed gang wars and drive by shootings, black on back murders, attitude and violence, black on white violence, high levels of crime and incarceration, and years of redistribution, affirmative action, and efforts to embrace talent, be inclusive, and create opportunity will not be nearly as sympathetic to this cause. In fact many think the real problem is the dysfunction in the black community. I include in that the many blacks that have stepped forward to say its time for the black community to accept responsibility, buck up, and become upstanding contributing members of our society.

Surely there are prominent black people who could step forward to lead and address this issue better than the radicals and poverty pimps now organizing and motivating protest.

It may turn out that Ben Carson is just the man for the job. See video of remarks by Ben Carson on race here.

  4. Libby says:

So, tell us about the great bodily injury caused by a hurled trash can?

A visceral gesture of disdain, certainly … but hardly lethal.

We pay the cops to suffer visceral gestures of disdain, without going lethal themselves. If they cannot do this … they must be sacked.

  5. J. Soden says:

For Libby – “pay the cops to suffer”??? What drivel!
So the next time YOU need help from law enforcement, you can put in a call to Sharpton or Jackson.

  6. Chris says:

“MLK had several things going for him, one was a palpable, very real set of grievances. The second was that everyone knew that what was going on was indecent, immoral, and unjust (Even some of those engaging in bigotry and racism knew).”

What a ridiculous thing to say, and a huge insult to MLK’s hard work. If “everyone” knew that racism was wrong, MLK’s efforts wouldn’t have been necessary.

Ben Carson is a joke who compared gays to pedophiles and Obamacare to slavery. He may be a fine doctor, but he is a moron.

    • Post Scripts says:

Au contraire Chris! I lived during those times as did Tina, and there was overwhelming support for the integration, anti-bigotry, movement. This is not to say there wasn’t pockets of bigotry, especially in the deep South. MLK was not the only civil rights leader, but he was among the very top, no doubt about it and we have to give the man his due…and we have.

It would be wrong of you to dismiss all those millions of people of high moral courage who were pushing for integration in the Southern States.

MLK was riding a wave of great support from White America. It was politically advantageous for Republicans too and they made great gains because of it. Even Democrats were starting to get the message and rather than be left behind they decided to come on board!

Did MLK meet resistance? Yes, of course he did! As did many of his White supporters who were with him, even if they were not in his inner circle. But, when a prejudice governor gets gunned down and a president sends in the national guard to force school integration, this IMHO marks a turning point that has never stopped.

Chris, my next beef is, you re-stated two common liberal lies about Dr. Ben Carson. We can’t have that sort of deceitful character assassination here.

Carson set the record straight long ago on these lies you just repeated, so you would do well to pay attention now: “I still believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,” said Carson, and ” “and because I happen to mention that nobody gets to change the definition of marriage…progressives say I equate homosexuality and bestiality!” Carson totally refuted this lie.

Carson never said, “Obamacare and slavery are the same thing.” What he said, and this is according to the Washington Post: “Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery“ and he later elaborated on this and I paraphrase now, “…government has shifted the power that was given to us, it’s the most massive shift in power in America that has ever occurred.”

Carson said, “In Germany people did not believe what Hitler was doing and they didn’t speak up.” This is a truism and whenever people don’t speak up against what is wrong they in effect give permission for the wrong to continue…I agree with Carson on this point. He did not say Obama was as Nazi or Obamacare was inspired by Nazi’s, but the progressives jumped on that connection to discredit the man…fortunately you missed repeating the latter lie, but you still got the other two big liberal lies in there. That’s wrong Chris, you sure get influenced by progressives…you would do so much better thinking for yourself.

“You know so much, but so much of what you know is wrong” Paraphrasing Ronald Reagan

Source of Carson’s refuting of liberal lies – CPAC speech – look it up, I’m not doing anyone’s homework for them.

  7. Chris says:

“Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery“

This is supposed to be evidence that he did not equate Obamacare with slavery? Laughable. Look up the definition of “equate.”

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/equate?s=t

Here are his comments equating gays with people who commit bestiality and pedophiles:

“My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society, and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality, it doesn’t matter what they are. They don’t get to change the definition.”

To argue that he was not drawing an equivalence is absurd. If I said:

“My thoughts are that torture is any severe mental or physical pain placed on a subject for the purpose of gathering information. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society that we don’t torture, and no group, be they conservatives, be they the Ku Klux Klan, be they people who believe in raping prisoners, it doesn’t matter what they are. They don’t get to change the definition.”

You would rightly accuse me of equating conservatives with Klan members, because that is what I would be doing.

Words have meaning. I am really sick of conservatives attempting to weasel out of the clear meaning of their own words.

    • Post Scripts says:

He didn’t call Obamacare slavery… PERIOD.

    • Post Scripts says:

Chris, you are the one weaseling… you want to EQUATE what Carson said with a straw man argument. The word equate doesn’t belong here. If I said the blast at the Japanese fertilizer factory was the worst since the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. I’m not say the blast at the factory was exactly the same as Hiroshima or even close, only that it was the worst in Japan…SINCE Hiroshima. That much ought to be obvious as was Carson’s comments to me. Geez Chris sometimes you make me think I’ve overestimated you.

  8. Chris says:

Jack: “He didn’t call Obamacare slavery… PERIOD”

He didn’t call Obamacare slavery. He EQUATED Obamacare with slavery. Look at the definition of equate I just provided for you.

  9. Chris says:

For instance, who can dispute the importance of personal responsibility – not a Republican invention, by the way – when Carson tells in his autobiography, “Gifted Hands,” how his mother, not willing to believe he was a “dummy” as teachers and fellow students called him, made his brother and him turn off the television set and write her twice-weekly essays. She then made them read the essays to her.

It was years later, he said, before his brother and he realized that their mother made them read the essays because she was illiterate. In explaining how he succeeded, Carson proclaimed at CPAC, “It was because I had a mother who believed in me.”

    She didn’t do it alone

No doubt, Mother Carson deserves tremendous credit, but – in the words of a political sound bite from the last presidential election – she didn’t do it alone. Carson, in his book, tells how his grades improved tremendously when a government program provided him with free eyeglasses because he could barely see. Not only that, in “Gifted Hands” we read this nugget: “By the time I reached ninth grade, mother had made such strides that she received nothing but food stamps. She couldn’t have provided for us and kept up the house without that subsidy.”

He writes elsewhere, “As I’ve said, we received food stamps and couldn’t have made it without them.”

Oy. Ben Carson now, though, bemoans the “welfare state” and talks about how the rich have always taken care of the poor, how “no one is starving in America” and how government dependence kills initiative.

Eating welfare cheese obviously didn’t kill his ambition or prevent him from becoming a great surgeon, but he now thinks it would be bad for everyone else. Sort of like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, eh, railing against Medicare and government-backed student loans – even while admitting that his parents received Medicare and he went to college on student loans?

How many more Ben Carsons might there be out there who, if Carson’s plans go into effect, would never get a chance to shine?

  10. Pie Guevara says:

Re #7 Chris: “Ben Carson is a joke who compared gays to pedophiles and Obamacare to slavery. He may be a fine doctor, but he is a moron.”

Said the English Major booby prize winning wannabe negro burner with a PhD attached to his credentials.

  11. Pie Guevara says:

Re #11: Yep, what he said was that it was the worst thing since slavery, despite what the English Major jackass claims.

  12. Tina says:

Re Libby, “…tell us about the great bodily injury caused by a hurled trash can?”

The violent gesture, likely accompanied with ugly words, incited the mob to beat “two officers…before other officers could come to their aid.”

In case you were uncertain about his intent: “Inside Linsker’s backpack police found a bundle of new hammers.”

Gee, wonder where he got that idea?

    Hat tip to J. Soden!

  13. Tina says:

Chris: “What a ridiculous thing to say, and a huge insult to MLK’s hard work. If “everyone” knew that racism was wrong, MLK’s efforts wouldn’t have been necessary.”

What a ridiculous thing to say, as if human beings never tolerate wrongdoing even when they know it goes against what their own conscience is telling them.

People often tolerate something they are not themselves involved in…look at the tolerance we have had for teachers unions that protect, shelter, and support their members even when it means kids sit in lousy classrooms year after year. Look at the tolerance for a system in which teachers are paid not to teach after committing a major offense for which they cannot be fired because of union power.

Tolerance has even become a political war cry for many special rights factions through the years.

Change had to come. Something had to be done. MLK stepped forward and led a DIGNIFIED protest that pressed on the conscience of the nation.

My remarks were NOT an insult, Chris! If you were not so hell bent on labeling me as stupid you might have actually gotten what I was saying.

As for Ben Carson, if you’re interpreting it’s likely you didn’t get what he said either.

  14. Tina says:

How lazy is the person who does not realize, and will not face, the negative affects of the welfare state and see them as problems that are just as important as whatever positive affects the programs may have had? Is there never room for improvement, innovation, and creating better solutions for the problem of poverty.

Considering the liberal economic and welfare policies of the past six years, policies that have exploded the numbers of welfare and subsidy recipients, particularly in the black community, I would think that a fresh look would be welcome!

Instead, the petty mean-spirited Chris is only interested in personally attacking a man that has lived an amazing, inspiring life in service to others…a man who through the inspiration of his mother, overcame the poverty he knew.

Yes Chris, Dr. Carson’s family accepted help, as yours has, and like yours his family worked to overcome that dependency. Are you incapable of seeing that not all people respond as you and Dr. Carson’s mother did, that some people are more inclined to take advantage, take the easy way out, or give up in despair? Are you so invested in liberals always being right that you cannot even entertain another approach to poverty and moving more people toward independent lives?

  15. Tina says:

Equate: 1. To make equal or equivalent, 2. To reduce to a standard or an average; equalize, 3. To consider, treat, or depict as equal or equivalent (equates inexperience with youth)

“Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery”

Are we interested in communication or Definitions? Is it more important to understand the important point being communicated or to use words against others with rigid, wrongheaded interpretations that, in the style of Saul Alinsky, are intended to target and isolate them?

What is being communicated by Carson is that Obamacare is the most significant loss of freedom since slavery! Obamacare creates slavish dependence on the government not only in the lower and middle classes as patients and consumers, but in particular the medical community that is now directed entirely by the central planners of the HHS and whatever new regulations they choose to impose year after year after year.

Obamacare represents a huge loss of freedom, just as ownership represented a huge loss of freedom for blacks sold into slavery.

  16. Tina says:

Liberals, progressives, radical narcissists seem to think only they know how things ought to be. They say they are the forward thinkers and yet, they are so rigidly bound by old solutions they cannot even allow new ideas or reforms to fix what isn’t working to be discussed.

Personal attacks are deeply partisan power plays and nothing else. Often this crap is passed off as a sign of intellectual superiority. I’d love to see an end to this negative, unproductive, OLD tactic. Not holding my breath.

Question. What do our resident leftists think the new slogan, “What do We Want? Dead Cops,” will do for their party?

My sense is that, as with the 99% rally’s, this movement is turning folks off and going nowhere.

  17. Myron CK says:

I’m a person of color, but I am not Black and I am a 2nd generation American. I agree with Post Scripts and disagree with “Chris”.
Chris has an attitude problem and I know how to fix it. He should live in Lebanon,Pakistan,Libya or Syria for a year and then come back here. He would have a change of heart about his country I am quite certain.

    • Post Scripts says:

Myron, thank you for weighing in on this one. A new view is always welcome and you are right on! May I take it that you are from the Middle East?

  18. Chris says:

Tina: “What a ridiculous thing to say, as if human beings never tolerate wrongdoing even when they know it goes against what their own conscience is telling them.”

Good point. One would hope that your tolerance for torture falls under this description, though that’s assuming it bothers your conscience one bit.

The original point was that saying that “everyone” knew segregation was wrong was ridiculous. Look back at the polls on segregation. Hell, look at the polls regarding interracial marriage, which wasn’t favored by a majority until the mid 90s. Your statement was ahistorical and insulting because it minimized the amount of opposition MLK faced.

“What is being communicated by Carson is that Obamacare is the most significant loss of freedom since slavery!”

I understand that that’s what’s being communicated. The problem is that it’s a completely stupid thing to communicate, and no one other than the most rabid right wingers could ever take it seriously.

Myron: “Chris has an attitude problem and I know how to fix it. He should live in Lebanon,Pakistan,Libya or Syria for a year and then come back here. He would have a change of heart about his country I am quite certain”

Why are conservatives suddenly so convinced that “America: Better than Islamic Dictatorships” is some kind of ringing endorsement of our nation? Do you really believe that our country has gotten so bad that this is all you have to recommend it?

  19. Chris says:

Obviously I don’t support this chant or any calls of violence or actual violence against officers. That is not a legitimate form of protest, and I condemn everyone who actively took part in this chant.

  20. Harold says:

“What is being communicated by Carson” is significant in that he is asking people of his own race to wake up and free themselves from the false ideals of Liberal politics.

And Dr.Carson is asking people to awaken and rise above the din of false promises and then reflect on the point it wasn’t the Democrats’ that gave them the respect of humanity, and with the caveat that if they continue to follow the trail of Liberal Government entitlements, they will be no better of than the first of their race in America.

Carson a moron, your not even close. But when your argument fails any evidence and just relies on your own perception, then I guess reverting to ridicule reads more than just a comment, and your icon as repetitive as posted here, and it may well be that it visits ones own past as well.

“Generally speaking, a fact is something that has actually happened or that is empirically true and can be supported by evidence. An opinion is a belief; it is normally subjective, meaning that it can vary based on a person’s perspective, emotions, or individual understanding of something.”
