Here we are again, discussing yet another shocking tragedy caused by Islamic terrorism. Yesterday, in a quiet district of Copenhagen, a Muslim gunman armed with an automatic weapon opened fire during a debate in the Krudttønden café, killing a Danish film director at close range. The attacker fled and hours later he attacked a Jewish Synagogue. Three police officers were hit in hail of gunfire and one died. The gunman was described only as 22 years old and of Middle Eastern decent. He was later caught in a police trap and shot dead. You can listen to the shooting as it happened in the café by clicking this link.
The café debate was designed to foster better understanding regarding Denmark’s free speech and when it crosses a line, as in blasphemy. The debate featured one of the cartoonist’s for the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten that published cartoons on 30 September 2005 that outraged Muslims. Muslims in Denmark rioted and there were numerous death threats against the paper and its staff.
It’s estimated that before the anger subsided it least 15o people worldwide died in clashes with the police and the military. The cartoonist at the café debate was not injured. Fortunately, he was ushered to safety by two bodyguards.
Danish prime minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, condemned this latest attack in what she called “a cynical act of terror.” She said she was “happy and relieved that police have disarmed the suspected perpetrator behind the two shootings”. It should be noted that in Denmark political correct speak “disarm” means to “shoot dead.” But, since this nation of pacifists abhors guns and violence so they (politicians) just can’t bring themselves say, “shot dead”… by police. In this context, I guess we’ve disarmed about 35,000 Taliban in Afghanistan and a few thousand Al Qaeda too. We disarmed the crap out of Osama bin Laden.
There’s also no “alleged” about it! He was [the] shooter - he was shot-dead while shooting at police. Or as the Danish prefer to say, he was ”disarmed” while shooting at police….what a crock. This is not how we should respond to terrorism.
The distraught, hand wringing, Prime Minister said Denmark had “lived through some hours which we will never forget!” Yes, 3 dead, that’s awful! It truly is, 3 innocent people killed by a radicalized Muslim is quite upsetting. Nobody should die over free speech or religion! However, if she was upset by 3 deaths I wonder how she would have handled the loss of 3000 of her citizens like we did on September 11th?
A Danish police spokesman said the killer [may] have been “inspired by militant Islamist propaganda issued by IS [Islamic State] and other terror organizations.” Oh c’mon…may? Well, one thing is for sure, he wasn’t inspired by any COEXIST bumper stickers nor was he particularly impressed by Demarks extremely tough gun laws.
According to the police, the suspect ( name withheld only for politically correct reasons) was from Copenhagen. He had been “on the radar” of their intelligence services for some time. In other words the police knew he was a pending problem, but they were unable to do anything about it until after the fact, a common problem in free Western nations.
The police have recovered a weapon believed to have been used in the first attack. It was unclear if a different weapon was used in the second attack.
Denmark estimates that about 100-150 of their (Muslim) citizens have left to join ISIS, a relatively small number considering they have about 450,000 Muslim citizens; then again terrorism isn’t about large numbers, it only took 19 to pull off the airplane hijackings that killed 3000 of our citizens.
In Denmark liberals are asking themselves the big question, is it about time to start thinking about limiting their free speech? Perhaps the better question would be, is it time to rethink their immigration policies, at least in terms of cost verses benefit?
The only thing I care to add to this is the only good terrorist is a disarmed terrorist, if you know what I mean?
