It is supposed to be an immediate termination if an IRS employee deliberately cheats on their taxes. But according to this Washington Times story many have been caught cheating, but few have been fired.
Internal Revenue Service officials rewarded more than 100 employees who cheated on their taxes, a government watchdog reported Wednesday.
Nearly 1,600 IRS employees from 2003 to 2014 were caught intentionally violating tax law, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration found. Only a quarter of those employees were fired, while another 108 either received promotions or bonuses.
“Given its critical role in Federal tax administration, the IRS must ensure that its employees comply with the tax law in order to maintain the public’s confidence,” Inspector General J. Russell George said in a statement. “Willful violation of the law by IRS employees should not be taken lightly.”
Nearly one-third of the employees from 2008 to 2013 caught cheating on their taxes received at least one bonus or raise within a year of being disciplined, investigators reported. These rewards include nearly $145,000 in bonuses, almost 900 hours of time-off awards and 30 temporary and permanent promotions.
Can’t wait for the next person audited by the IRS to use the same excuses and lies that the IRS has been trying to peddle to the public for the last few years.
Obumble’s IRS is transforming into the Gestapo.
I am shocked! Shocked you understand, to learn that law enforcement officers are ignoring the crimes of other officers.
Jim, so you think that all cops turn a blind eye to thuggish behavior of a fellow officer? lol
Besides the great pay and bonuses gov’t employees get these days the perks for certain employees is so good it’s criminal.
Pentagon employees used gov’t credit cards for gambling, escorts, audit finds:
“A new audit by the Department of Defense revealed that a number of employees used their government-issued credit cards to pay for escorts and gambling as well as other adult activities, Fox News has confirmed.
The findings, first reported by Politico, came from an audit of “Government Travel Charge Transactions” launched by the department’s inspector general’s office to determine “whether DoD government travel card holders used their card for personal use at casinos or adult entertainment establishments.”
Defense officials confirmed the accuracy of the Politico report to Fox News.
According to one official, the findings of the audit show that from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014, DOD credit cardholders logged 4,437 transactions totaling nearly $1 million at casinos.
They also logged 900 transactions totaling nearly $100,000 at “adult entertainment establishments.”
In total, there are 1.6 million card holders, and the expenses in question still account for a fraction of total charges during that period.
“The report is not final yet, it is still weeks away,” one official said.”

Oh Jack, of course I don’t think that ALL cops are dishonest. However I think it’s only human nature to “go easy” on your friends and co-workers. We both know this happens in law enforcement all the time.
Also since when did cheating on your taxes become “thuggish behavior”?
#5 We know happens all the time? How do you know this Jim? I’m in a pretty good position to know and I would say the incidents of police getting heavy handed is fairly rare. I would concede that officers in Chicago and further east are a little more prone to unethical behavior than officers on the west coast, but consider the environment.
“the incidents of police getting heavy handed is fairly rare.”
I would tend to agree.
That isn’t what I was talking about. I though this discussion was about agents ignoring the indiscretions of their co-workers.
#7 Jim, yes, I suppose one might take it that way. A fair perspective. Objection withdrawn.
