The President wants to close down Guantanamo prison, but it holds the last 50 prisons that were the worst of worst. We don’t want to ship them into American prisons for obvious reason, and for the same reasons none of our allies will take them; although Iraq and Afghanistan should whether they like it or not! They owe us and that raises the question, so why hasn’t our president put the pressure on these so-called allies to take back their terrorists. They can dispose of them however they wish, not our problem. Are we really concerned those two brutal places would sooner line the terrorists up against a stone wall and shoot them rather than risk keeping them in prison or sending them to trial? Or do they think they will release them? If they would do that, how could we call them allies? Why would we even be dealing with such people?
So, here we are once again, conservatives on one side ready to give them a military tribunal trial, call it close enough and shoot the b-tards and on the other side our dear hand wringing liberals are flustered by a huge moral dilemma. They’re completely fixated on giving these murdering fanatics a criminal show trial with constitutional guarantees included for a US citizen or be set free! They want these vicious Huns to have every possible access to our criminal justice system that they are in no way legally or morally entitle too!
Look, these battle-hardened savages were deemed unreleasable for one main reason – they will go right back to killing innocent people. This is what they have always done; they are drawn by their religion into committing craven acts of terrorism in the name of Allah. These people can’t be reasoned with – they can’t be stopped by any other method than killing them. Justice requires they be held accountable for their brutal war crimes.
One of the main factors driving this compulsion to deal with the Gitmo prisoners in court or release them is Obama. He made a promise to close down Gitmo when he was running for president almost 8 years ago. Afterward he discovered as president, saying it was a lot easier than doing it. But, this irrational promise was part of what he sees as his legacy and he has this obsessive compulsion to protect legacy. However, when he made that promise there was a heck of a lot that he had never considered. Completely ignored was, the most obvious fact, that inconvenient truth, that every liberal in America was loath to hear, that terrorists are not flagged soldiers, they are terrorists and they have no rules. These guys are not aligned with a country, they are outside the law, and international law and US law clearly says they can be held for an indefinite period if circumstances warrant. They can also be executed. However, what the liberals fall back on, because it fits their Alice in Wonderland narrative, is terrorists are just people like us, and they are in our care, so gee whiz they should get treated like any American citizen charged with a crime! Free legal counsel, a free trial by a jury of their peers, which also means access to all classified evidence if it is in any way pertinent to their defense. They should get it all! If the rules of evidence fall short of that expected in a criminal trial, then that evidence is tossed out! But, not before these illegal combatants have had a chance to learn how secret US counter-intelligence operations work. Not before they know who our informants are all the identities of anyone who helped us find terrorists. All those good people who trusted us are to be casually thrown under the (liberal) bus for the sake of what, their delicate liberal sensibilities? Give me a break!
Nah, I say we have the right and the duty to terminate these terrorists and we should have done it 48 hours after the last confession was extracted. And we’ve got plenty of precedent for doing this too! Take a look at WWII if you disagree – study how we handled many of the Nazi fanatics. But, here’s the most important part: Consider how many of the released Gitmo terrorists have returned to the fight and taken innocent lives. We caused that and this reality, this hindsight, ought to be 20-20. Whack em – case close. Oh, and Obama, your legacy sucks, it will only suck worse if you release the last of the detainees.
I had a thought: Citizenship is by definition contractual.
So I googled for backup and found this obscure site, written by George Mercier:
I don’t have time right now to read this entry, which seems to be from a paper or book, and I’d certainly consider my citizenship as above a country club membership, but still the idea seems to apply. As citizens we have a contractual agreement with each other to honor the Constitution and the rule of law. Anyone outside the contract has no such obligation and therefore, no such claim to the benefits thereof.
Terrorists deserve to be treated as the despicable creatures they are…people who have no respect for anyone, not even themselves and a ruthless desire to be right by might. Liberals are free…they can feel sorry for them all they want. they cannot and should not treat them as fellow citizens or even as citizens of other nations that respect differences, even if they do not share our contract.
A government unwilling to confine or execute our terrorist enemies is what Democrats are all about.
