Political Implications of the Movie “13 Hours”

13Hours_1-Sht_Teaser_NightVision1Posted by Tina

I have not yet seen the movie “13 Hours” but I did come across an interesting review, “The Jacksonian Politics of 13 Hours,” by Stanley Kurtz, that I thought you might enjoy. Right off the bat Mr. Kurtz says this movie will have a damaging effect on both Hillary Clinton and the President. But his main focus is on the possible political implications this movie might have on the primary election for the Republicans, in particular Cruz, Rubio, and Trump. Here’s a tease:

This movie will help to lock-in and reinforce the already well-advanced Jacksonian trend in public attitudes toward American foreign-policy, especially among Republicans. That could have immediate consequences in the primaries, since the audience for 13 Hours will disproportionately consist of Republican voters.

Through its graphic depiction of America’s policy-debacle in Libya, 13 Hours brings to life a whole series of unpleasant truths about the Middle East: that the region oscillates between dictatorship, chaos, and jihadism; that notwithstanding some courageous and committed Arab friends, our military allies in the region can be ineffective and unreliable under pressure; that Middle-Eastern democratization on any policy-relevant time-scale is a pipe dream.

I hope you will comment on the article’s content as well as your own experience of the movie.

I’m going to see it tomorrow with Kleenex.

I am still flabberghasted on why these four Americans are the only deaths that you need kleenex for.

Every single American serving the country who falls deserves the same amount of attention.

What about the thousands who died or are now home crippled from a war on a lie not as important?

We have living vets homeless on our streets. Let’s demand this never ending profit war game be stopped.

CIA/FBI were arming the rebels from that building. That is a fact never discussed.

They will never tell the truth because they can’t. American would be horrified if they knew what the CIA was doing. The ambassador and others knew what was going on. The ambassador declined more help. Congress cut funds to secure these overseas buildings. Refused to allocate funds already accounted for.

The real story? Well have to wait for decades as The CIA/FBI hide behind their wall. remember the press release was redacted by both agencies until what was read was silly.

Since I was born and raised in the Army I find every word of your remarks offensive.

Those four men died because of Obama and Hillary.

Two of them could have been saved at the mission if the CIA contractors had been allowed to leave within the first minutes of the initial attack.

Two men would be alive if the plane that was in the air had not been turned around and the ones on the ground at bases with pilots ready to go had been allowed to take off.

From Politifact which you liberals seem to love.
“The State Department has acknowledged it rejected requests to provide more security personnel in Libya. It also acknowledged rejecting a request to erect guard towers at the Benghazi mission, but notes that a number of physical security upgrades, such as the installation of concrete barriers to block unused gates, were made during 2012.

The State Department’s own Accountability Review Board concluded that the number of diplomatic security staff in Benghazi in the months leading up to the attacks was inadequate “despite repeated requests” from the Benghazi mission and the embassy in Tripoli for additional staffing.

A bipartisan report by the Senate Intelligence Committee also found that the State Department headquarters did not grant Stevens’ requests for more security personnel.

      Our rating

Johnson said that before the terrorist attacks in Benghazi, “the State Department not only failed to honor repeated requests for additional security, but instead actually reduced security in Libya.”

State Department headquarters in Washington did refuse repeated requests from its ambassador in Libya for more security personnel. And it decided not to accept an offer from the Defense Department to extend the stay of one of its security units in Libya, reducing the level of security that was available.

      We rate Johnson’s statement True.”

I do believe the State Dept. had more than enough money to provide the request and necessary security to keep the Americans safe with American security.

State Dept. misplaced $6B under Hillary Clinton: IG report

“The State Department misplaced and lost some $6 billion due to the improper filing of contracts during the past six years, mainly during the tenure of former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, according to a newly released Inspector General report.

The $6 billion in unaccounted funds poses a “significant financial risk and demonstrates a lack of internal control over the Department’s contract actions,” according to the report.

The situation “creates conditions conducive to fraud, as corrupt individuals may attempt to conceal evidence of illicit behavior by omitting key documents from the contract file,” the report concluded.

The State Department’s inability to properly file its paperwork is causing most of the losses, according to the report.”

State Department Spends $5 Mil on Glasses, Says Benghazi Investigation is Waste of Money”

“The State Department is defending its purchase of $79,000 worth of Obama’s books.

Those records show the State Department bought $415,000 worth of alcohol in fiscal 2012, which was 25 percent more than the $331,000 spent in 2011 and more than triple the $118,000 spent in 2008.

All this liquor and wine requires proper drinkware, of course. Thus, the State Department raced to fill an order of $5 million just hours before the shutdown, buying 12,000 pieces of hand-blown crystal glassware—retailing up to $85 per glass.”

        Excellent rebuttal Peggy…good on ya!

It’s always amusing to hear the left whine about not having the money to do what they are supposed to do while spending on vacation get-a-ways, expensive resorts, booze and in one case, prostitutes! Progressives are the biggest pigs in the trough

        • Peggy says:

As the saying goes, “There’s always money. It’s just how wisely it’s spent.” Us taxpayers spending $70 million on the Obama vacations and golfing trips makes my blood boil. I can only imagine what the vacation cost will be if Hillary and Bill gets back in the WH.

“I am still flabberghasted on why these four Americans are the only deaths that you need kleenex for. ”

Your attitude toward conservatives is showing. But you can stop being flabbergasted. We at Post Scripts have always respected, honored, and grieved for those who give time, life, and limb in service to our country.

“CIA/FBI were arming the rebels from that building. That is a fact never discussed.”

Wrong! It’s come up several times.

    “The ambassador declined more help.”

We have emails showing he asked for more help. There’s spin that he didn’t.

“Congress cut funds to secure these overseas buildings.”

An excuse so thin it has only one side. They had plenty of funds. They were spending more to secure our embassy in France… FRANCE…than they were spending in Benghazi; it would have required a simple reallocation of funds and personnel. They also knew that the British and the Red Cross had moved out because of the danger posed by terrorists. Black flags were flying all over the city. Nobody at State with authority was paying attention.

Yes documents were redacted and we don’t know the whole story. We do know what should have been standard procedure to keep our people safe. We do know when there’s a failure of leadership before, during, and after the incident. We can look at the behaviors of leadership before, during, and after the incident to see that something is not right.

You are right about one thing it will take decades to get the whole truth about what was going on…what the mission was.

The American Thinker posted a a different take on the movie 13 Hours. Conservatives at PS will be interested, it’s about how well the movie depicts white hats and black hats.

I’d be interested in the thoughts of anyone who has seen the movie.
