An FOIA request has resulted in a report issued by the Pentagon.
The Pentagon has deployed drones to spy over U.S. territory for non-military missions over the past decade, but the flights have been rare and lawful, according to a new report.
The report by a Pentagon inspector general, made public under a Freedom of Information Act request, said spy drones on non-military missions have occurred fewer than 20 times between 2006 and 2015 and always in compliance with existing law.
The report, which did not provide details on any of the domestic spying missions, said the Pentagon takes the issue of military drones used on American soil “very seriously.”
Guidelines were put in place in 2006 by the Pentagon when the technology advanced and was used overseas. These guidelines included minimal domestic use for “homeland defense purposes in the U.S. and to assist civil authorities. An example, expressed on FOX Business this morning, would be to aid forest firefighters. More recent Pentagon guidelines include a requirement to obtain a signature from the secretary of defense and language stating that drones “may not conduct surveillance on U.S. persons.” Use of armed drones over the US is absolutely forbidden.
The ACLU wants Congress to create formal law.
On any given day, you can drive north from Las Vegas on State Route 95 to Indian Springs and watch the drones take off and land.
Would not be at all surprised if those same drones are used to spy on citizens, given the overreach of the current administration.
It wouldn’t surprise me either. What could possibly be of interest about the average citizen?
I do see the practical use in firefighting.

Drones ran by the FBI ect ect are in the sky all the time, they have a whole squad and yes they watch more than suspected criminals…. They watch you!
Glad to see the story get traction but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Also those are private corporations watching you on cameras.
You never noticed the Drones overhead in Norcal? really? The look like a wavering star but closer to ground.
Look in the Night Sky you will see drones, the noisy ones are for the police, the quiet ones are either in use or Beale training.
