This Is How They Educate Today?

Posted by Tina

It’s been obvious for a long time that the radical left has control over our educational system. It’s been obvious that much of what is being taught has to do with social issues and radical environmentalism. News comes out today that a school in North Carolina has signed it’s students up to attend a Black Lives Matter rally.

Now I ask you, is thisthis an example of what a six year old should be taught?

Central Park School for Children in Durham, North Carolina has enrolled grade-school students in a “Black Lives March and Rally” scheduled for March 17, 2016. The teachers can opt-in or opt-out their classes, but parents have not been given a choice.

Stef Bernal-Martinez, a teacher of 6-year-old children, signed up all the children in her class for a “Black Lives March and Rally” to take place during the school day, at the city’s downtown Central Park and Farmer’s Market. Ms. Bernal-Martinez describes herself as a “Radical Queer Progressive Educator” and “white-passing Xicana.”

What do you think, good idea or not?

At first I was going to say this is obviously illegal, but the school in question appears to be a charter school. In that case, I’m downgrading it to “completely inappropriate.”

I don’t believe for a second that “parents have not been given a choice,” though.

It’s a Charter School. Not a Public school.

But again here we are reading about Race subjects. WHy is Race such a big topic here?

Did you call the school and get a comment? RW Blogs spinning is not factual.

        • Tina says:

Apparently you don’t bother to read the blog, Dewey. One of our regulars already informed us that this is a charter school…which by the way is still a “public” school, it’s just run under different parameters.

They are actually acting as good pilots, introducing a little competition which is always a good thing.

“But again here we are reading about Race subjects. WHy is Race such a big topic here?”

Dude…the subject isn’t just the school; the subject is their attendance at a BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST.

One could ask you…what is the obsession in the black/minority community? Why is race such a big topic for BLM?

If you don’t like the blog…go elsewhere. As long as you are going to participate here…as a guest I might add…a little civility is in order.

Interesting. But why do I think that this idea, an idea we have spoken of quite often here, will not be well received in some liberal circles?

I guess it’s because I don’t buy that there is an “equality of opposites” in America. I think the notion that Republicans only care about and talk about taxes, regulation, and the economy and never about poverty is false. We don’t do activism about poverty. We don’t pin colored ribbons on our lapels or start a neighborhood vegetable garden. But we do give generously to charity. We do attempt to share the idea that capitalism is the solution to poverty…and we’ve been demonized for it. We are accused of being greedy and selfish and dismissed. We are accused of even worse…racism. We have pointed out that poverty programs aren’t getting the job done and been demonized for it and dismissed.

I agree that if we could work as a team the left and right would work well together. I’ve said that, generally speaking, the left is better at hands on involvement and creative solutions, while the right is better at creating the means of support and logistics. And I’ve talked about the difference between a hand out and a hand up and how important incentive is for human beings to become motivated in their own self and community interest. I’ve talked about how important freedom and the rule of law are to ending poverty. I’ve expressed the blessing that US companies starting operations in foreign countries are to people in those countries. It feels like I’ve talked till I’m blue in the face and all I’ve gotten is resistance and the pleasure of being called names.

Before this good idea can ever break down barriers and take root a lot of people are going to have to let go of the need to demonize capitalism and people on the right. they are going to have to stop using the right as an enemy.

Brooks quoted Barack Obama as saying in a private conversation that capitalism solved poverty. supposedly a big surprise. But if he really thinks that why has he governed as a hard core left redistributionist and engaged in so much class and race warfare?

We on the right have been laughed at for our “nostalgia” about the good old days but there was a time in America, before the advent of radical left thinking, when Democrats and Republicans were Americans first. We didn’t demonize wealthy people; we admired them. We were clear that corruption and greed occurred at every level of society. And the majority of Americans knew that all people are born equal and that we share the same rights. We worked hard to overcome prejudice because it was the right thing to do.

Brooks is a gracious and well intended man with a wonderful speaking ability and a terrific point to make. I hope he repeats this talk often and I genuinely hope it does begin to break down the barriers to end the division in this country.

Now that I know it’s a charter school I’m skeptical that parents didn’t at least know about this decision.

I’d want the choice to keep my six year old home after observing the tone of these protests.

    • Pie Guevara says:

What does it matter that it is a charter school? The left in action.

      • Chris says:

It matters because parents have more choice when it comes to a charter school. They typically research the school beforehand, and they choose a charter school for their kids because they like their pedagogy. I’d be surprised if the political bent of this teacher wasn’t known beforehand. Parents of public school kids can’t be as picky–kids go to the school that’s closest most of the time. There’s also more of an expectation of neutrality.

This is still wrong regardless of what kind of school it is, but if it were a public school it would be illegal due to the promotion of a political cause. Charter schools can do that, they just shouldn’t.

        • Pie Guevara says:

Typical from the purveyor of crap. It could be that (and likely is) the parents were not aware. Nevertheless it does not make one whit of difference whether they did or not.

Think about it, folks. Think about how Chris tosses his never ending, self-aggrandizing, extreme left wing political calumny about in PS. Would you trust this noxious kid to “educate” your children?

          • Chris says:

That’s an incredibly irrational, confrontational and disproportionate reply to my comment. Stop looking for thing to be outraged by.

        • Tina says:

Illegality hasn’t stopped public school teachers from going off the reservation at times. I see no difference in this instance. What seems like a good idea at the time sometimes turns out not to be. Also a parent is more likely to investigate the school prior to enrollment but not necessarily each individual teacher and there is some turnover in charter schools.

    • Chris says:

I agree that a BLM protest is no place for a six-year-old, who can’t possibly understand that kind of thing. And yes, this does rise to the level of indoctrination.

  4. Libby says:

Need to do a search. How many citizens of Durham, NC, have been assassinated by the police recently? That will will be a measure of appropriateness.

Overall, I have to say, the zoo,
the aquarium, the arboretum are more what one would like to see in the way of school field trips.

  5. Dewster says:

Why speculate ask for a comment from the actual school.

  6. Tina says:

Libby your question, ” How many citizens of Durham, NC, have been assassinated by the police recently?” Is completely inappropriate and ugly. Would you like to offer some evidence for this accusation?

I googled and found a lot of work for the local police officers involving shootings, an incidence of an officer being shot, but none for “assassinations by a police officer.”

Take a look at this list and note the number of deaths of police officers across America by gunfire. Then notice too that this is for 2016 only…less than three months. You might note the K9’s lost for the same reason.

Police officers go where crime is!

  7. Libby says:

Ah, Tina, how kindly you are to the little children.

  8. Tina says:

What children Libby? The kids raised in fatherless homes that turn to crime and gang violence and get themselves shot up by other kids and who are ignored cpmpletely by lefties too busy making enemies of the police officers and “making a difference” with ta payer handouts?

As far as I’m concerned the left is largely responsible for the sad statistics found here. Men that were once kids. Men that turned to gangs and then to crimes. these are the men that should have grown up to be responsible fathers with decent paying jobs and providers of their families. Fifty years of Johnson’s Great Society has wrought the very worst for the black and minority “children.”

In 2013 there were 4.1 million single parent families in America. In way too many of them the father is the federal government.

How unaware you are of the destruction you’ve fed into the lives of children with leftist policies and ideals.

    Did you hear about this?

BREAKING: Obama Just Gave Himself A MASSIVE Pay Raise… FOREVER! $$$

“While Americans are suffering in the Obama economy, President Barack Obama is seeking to increase the money available to him after he leaves the White House.

The Congressional Research Service reports that for requests for both 2016 and 2017 fiscal years, Obama’s proposed federal budget would expand funding through the Former Presidents Act. In 2017 alone, Obama wants nearly an 18% hike in expenditures… $588,000. That means $3.865,000 in appropriations will be available to spend on former Presidents!

The 2016 proposed budget includes an additional $25,000 increase.”
