Islamic Terror: The War Then and Now

The following from 2007 is excerpted but the interview on PBS with former President Bush, President Bush Links War in Iraq to War on Terrorism, is well worth reading in full:

…They’re dangerous, and I can’t put it any more plainly to the American people, and to them, we will stay on the offense. It’s better to fight them there than here.

And this concept about, well, maybe, you know, let’s just kind of just leave them alone and maybe they’ll be all right is naive. These people attacked us before we were in Iraq. They viciously attacked us before we were in Iraq, and they’ve been attacking ever since.
They are a threat to your children, David. And whoever is in that Oval Office better understand it and take measures necessary to protect the American people.

RAY SUAREZ: Again in his news conference, the president re-emphasized the high stakes of the war in Iraq.

GEORGE W. BUSH: One of the areas where I really believe we need more of a national discussion, however, is, what would be the consequences of failure in Iraq? Failure in Iraq affects the security of this country, and it’s hard for some Americans to see that. I fully understand it.
I see it clearly. I believe this is the great challenge of the beginning of the 21st century, not just Iraq, but dealing with this radical ideological movement in a way that secures us in the short term and more likely secures us in the long term.

I’m sure that when the newly elected president Obama took office he was fully briefed on the enemy and I’m certain President Bush took the time fully explain in detail what his strategy had been and what he believed must happen going forward to defeat terrorists and keep the free world safe. Obviously President Obama decided he knew better. Now the attacks on our shores and on European shores just keep coming…and it’s accelerating.

PARIS (AP) — The Islamic State group has trained at least 400 fighters to target Europe in deadly waves of attacks, deploying interlocking terror cells like the ones that struck Brussels and Paris with orders to choose the time, place and method for maximum carnage, officials have told The Associated Press.

The network of agile and semiautonomous cells shows the reach of the extremist group in Europe even as it loses ground in Syria and Iraq.
The officials, including European and Iraqi intelligence officials and a French lawmaker who follows the jihadi networks, described camps in Syria, Iraq and possibly the former Soviet bloc where attackers are trained to target the West. Before being killed in a police raid, the ringleader of the Nov. 13 Paris attacks claimed he had entered Europe in a multinational group of 90 fighters, who scattered “more or less everywhere.”

But the biggest break yet in the Paris attacks investigation – the arrest on Friday of fugitive Salah Abdeslam- did not thwart the multipronged attack just four days later on the Belgian capital’s airportmistakes in this war and he has been coddled and protected by our media and subway system that left 31 people dead and an estimated 270 wounded.

The current administration has made many, many mistakes in this war and he has been coddled and protected from any real criticism by a complicit media. Time to face the music.

Time to get real BABY boomers…Bush was absolutely right. Undeniable realities are calling and our kids are counting on us to clean up this mess. Patty cake won’t get it done.

That was a very precise article. Obama has done a lot more than just make mistakes. He has proven that he is all for islam and moslim terrorism, and has done all he can to destroy our country and safety.

  2. Tina says:

Thank you Roger. The two quoted articles just seemed to fit well together.

Your point is well expressed and well taken.

  3. J. Soden says:

The Paris bomber had help in Belgium from the muslim community and family. No other way could he have lasted so long.
Due to Obumble’s lackadaisical “leadership” where agenda takes priority over security, it’s just a matter of time until we get a similar attack as did Belgium.
Thanks, Obumble. YOU built that, and students will be studying your Failures for decades as to what NOT to do! Counting the days ’till he’s gone!

Bush told us after 911 that it could take 20 years to defeat this enemy. He made considerable progress within his eight years and warned that if we pulled back it would be a big mistake. Had we been strong and vigilantly dedicated to the destruction of the enemy, rather than pivoting to appeasement and making friends with the sponsors of terrorism, we’d now be 15.5 years into the effort…and I reckon, with much fewer deaths and displacement.

The policies this administrations followed have been an absolute disaster, setting us back in the fight and empowering our enemies. He has normalized relations with two nations on the sponsors list, Iran and Cuba, without expecting or demanding a single change in how they do business or govern their people!

Counting the days, indeed. I wonder how many more will die and be maimed until we can get a handle on this situation again. It took Bush eight years to make the progress he made. Our next president has to face a dispersed enemy…we’re fighting them here now.
