Update: Terror Threat

Revelations are bleeding out from the Jihadi attack in Brussels.

Daily Mail reports that in addition to a large cache of explosive materials found in the jihadist residence, investigators uncovered 12 hours of footage indicating a nuclear plant was being targeted. The plan included the kidnapping of the plant’s power chief to gain access to the nuclear facility.

ISIS released a new video following the Brussels attack:

Islamic State noted that Belgium was part of a coalition fighting militants in the Middle East.

It featured the training of Belgian militants suspected in the Nov. 13 shooting and suicide bombing rampage by Islamic State that killed 130 people in Paris.

“The crusaders aircrafts, including Belgium’s, continue to bomb Muslims in Iraq and the Levant in the night and day,” said the video.

“Every Muslim who is well aware of the history of Islam, knows that the holy war against infidels is an integral part of Islam, and those who read history would know.”

Islamic State controls large parts of Iraq and Syria and has a presence in Libya and Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The Mirror informs that a kidnapped priest, “Father Tom Uzhunnalil, was seized when four armed militants stormed an old people’s home in Aden in Yemen on March 4, killing 16. It is feared he will be crucified on Good Friday.

Fusion investigators claim to have interviewed a former ISIS fighter, Michael Delefortrie, for a documentary they are producing:

Just weeks before the Brussels attacks, Delefortrie told us his dream to “live under an Islamic caliphate” would soon become a reality in Europe. ISIS’s brand of militant Islam would not be denied, he said, because “ISIS is not a group, it’s an ideology.”

Asked about terror attacks against civilians, he suggested there was a logic behind them. “If you spit in the air,” he said, “there’s gonna be a moment when the spit is gonna fall in your own face.”

Delefortrie is currently serving three years’ probation for his connections with terror groups.

Fusion also asks why so little coverage for the two other attacks that happened recently as it recounts the horrific attacks and numbers of dead and injured in Nigeria:

Just this month, there have been two separate terrorist attacks in Turkey: one on Sunday in Istanbul, and another a few days before that in the city of Ankara. Last month, terrorist group Boko Haram brutally attacked a village in Nigeria and killed at least 65 people, injuring more than 130.

Politico comments on the President’s “rational” for sticking to his schedule:

Obama has been steadfast in his view that ripping up schedules gives the terrorists what they want. He’s said it before, and he said it again on Wednesday in a joint press conference in Buenos Aires with Argentine President Mauricio Macri: Groups like ISIL, which claimed responsibility for the attacks on the Belgian capital that killed at least 31, “are not an existential threat to us.”

Even as he called combating Islamic State his “No. 1 priority,” Obama said their “primary power … is to strike fear in our societies, to disrupt our societies so that the effect cascades from an explosion or an attack by a semiautomatic rifle.”

That’s Obama’s rationale for sticking to his agenda. Sometimes, that’s meant keeping the focus on the parts of the world where he thinks American influence can have a lasting, positive impact, like when he jetted off to Asia the day after the deadly Paris attacks in November. Other times, it’s just looked awkward. Obama himself said he regretted the image – though not the act – of him hitting the links on Martha’s Vineyard right after publicly mourning the beheading of the journalist James Foley at the hands of ISIL in 2014.

George Bush made it clear that Americans shouldn’t let the threat from terrorist stop us from going about our daily lives BUT, he also gave (most) us confidence that he had a plan, was fully engaged, and determined to defeat the threat! Obama has not given me any sense of certainty that he cars much less is engaged and determined to end the enemy’s threat and keep us safe.

America needs good leadership. The Democrat candidates offer more of the same. Please consider carefully before voting, or staying home, in November.

Michael Hayden has the best take of Obama’s actions I’ve heard. Remember Obama said the biggest threat was global warming/climate change.

Michael Hayden: Obama Isn’t Showing Weakness On Terror, He Legitimately Doesn’t Think It Is Important:

MICHAEL HAYDEN: “I’m going to say something that is going to sound pretty harsh, but I think it is true. [The president’s statement] wasn’t a mistake, that wasn’t weakness, that was policy.

His going to the ballpark and spending less than a minute on the attack. I actually believe that the president’s policy, in his heart of hearts is: That is not that big a deal.”

There are other things that are more important, and that is what he messaging.”

If it walks and talks like a duck…

But, but, but you are quoting from TABLOIDS! Oh the horror!

(Sorry, I was having a Chris moment, he prefers broadsheet.)

Pie, thanks for that article. I’ve long argued that profiling is far better than trying to detect the last known bomb design they tried to use. Better to focus more on people and less on ticking things or a 1 oz bottle of liquid. We’re losing the balance between sensible security and sensible air travel….make that we’ve lost the balance.

Re: “Please consider carefully before voting, or staying home, in November.”

I have finally made up my mind. I can never vote for Trump, even as a vote against the equally insane Hillary.

I don’t understand why you can’t see it. Every time ISIS does something nasty, and you lash out all frightened and repressive against Islam generally … they have won.

Actually, I do know why you can’t see it.

    • Tina says:

No1 You don’t see it. You DO interpret and affix, “frightened and repressive,” then walk off with a self satisfied grin. My behavior has not changed. Information continues to flow. The culprits are appropriately NAMED!

Your notions of them winning are pretty short sighted. An “imagined” view about our response takes precedence over the failed policies of our government over the last 7.5 years! You must be part of the Presidents, “don’t make them mad” club, as if they needed an excuse to follow their ideological goals.

You and our president are responsible for the growth and spread of Islamic terror…and, both the violent and the infiltration means to establishing a world wide caliphate. What a mess!

  5. Libby says:

Obama did not rip Iraq into pieces. That was your guy.

ISIS was birthed in Syria and funded in the early days largely by the Sauds. They have had a crash course in unintended consequences, and I see no reason not to let them take a large role in the cleanup. We will help.

Bush did invade Iraq, and it was a long difficult slog, but he also left a stable Iraq, with an imperfect but functioning democratic government, a decimated al Qaeda, and a load of experience and information for Obama to utilize. Clean up, vigilance, and a strong military presence was required.

Obama declared Iraq a “stupid war,” walked away, and went back to Afghanistan for a presidential prize. Once gotten he pretty much lost whatever interest he had. Symbolism trumps substance.

His now infamous “red line” in Syria is an international joke, criticized roundly by Leon Panetta.

The rise of ISIS is due to the failures of Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton, who yak up a storm, but don’t know what the hell they are doing. I’m not sure they weren’t working at cross purposes what with all her secret server emailing with her old pal Sidney Blumenthal. Whatever it was they were doing it certainly has blown up, literally, all over the world. We’re fighting them here now.

The buck stops in the oval office…at least that’s how you guys always play it, no matter what. You get to eat this one dearie and it’s a full meal.

Bottom line, no progress made, plenty of moving backwards, just about reached square one with a bigger problem than we had before.

Interesting statistic offers something to contemplate regarding terrorists, refugees, and Muslims that believe a world wide caliphate can be established by peaceful means. An excerpt:

I flew to Paris the day Brussels was bombed. It was a fine day—weather-wise—and as I looked down with a clear view on that vast and wealthy city, its millions of citizens going about their business as if nothing had happened, I thought how stupid it was of a handful of miserable ferret-faced terrorists, the living incarnation of Lombroso’s theories, to imagine that they could bring about the downfall of such an imposing edifice by their putrid, self-important acts. And yet…only the other day I was reading, in a book by Professor Henri Pirenne (a Belgian, by the way), that the barbarians made up only 5% of the population of the Roman Empire at the moment of its supposed collapse.

It’s not that we should huddle in fear or stop going about living. It’s that we should take this threat seriously. To do that we need a different president.

  7. Libby says:

The Roman Empire rotted from within.

Another reason to be concerned about The Donald: a country wherein such a thing/person could come to prominence is a country on the skids.
