One of my favorite eating places around Chico is Foodies Cafe at the Chico Airport, well, today I noticed a Joe Montes for Congress sign on Foodie’s front lawn. I’ve seen a lot of those Montes signs around Chico and several of my close friends had told me to check him out, because they liked him. So, I thought I would do a little investigating and find out who Joe Montes is and why he’s running for Congress.
The answers I found made this voter break into a big cheesy grin. Montes has qualifications that won’t quit. Best I’ve seen in a long, long time. He’s a vet for starters and he has served in two branches, Air and Army guard. Then I discovered he is well educated. Let me make that, very, well educated! He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from California State University, Sacramento. He’s a graduate of the California Military Academy and received his Juris Doctor degree from UCLA School of Law. Not only can he thoroughly understand the bills coming before him, but he can write them. He’s got a great background for being a very good legislator.
Everything I found out said, winner.
We deserve top notch representation in Congress don’t we? I want our guy in Washington to actually DO SOMETHING, not go along to get along. I want our guy to be able to hold his own with his fellow Congressmen and women and I believe Joe Montes is the guy that can do it. He runs his own property business, another big plus. He has been a trier of facts (judge) and he has went after bad guys as a deputy district attorney. Huge plus there! Just everything I have found out about Montes has been outstanding. It’s no wonder my friends like this candidate. Look at who is endorsing Montes, that’s says a lot about him.
Bottom line: The people of the 1st Congressional District deserve the best representation they can get; they need a doer with the drive and intelligence to make things happen. By all accounts Montes is that man.
Would that we had 100 more like him. Off topic, but something else to like—
May the fourth be with you. Personally, I’ll take the fifth. Jack Daniels will do.

Two endorsements for the price of one. We’ve been wondering how the food was at the Foodie Cafe, thanks Jack.
Joe Montes has quite the resume. Good to know.
Doesn’t Doug have the job for as long as he wants, for life if he wants? Wasn’t that the case for Herger and Chappie before Herger? In the past 36 years we’ve only had 3 different people represent us in the House. (And Chappie was in “only” 8 years and decided to leave for health reasons.)
In this country the incumbents get re-elected at a higher rate than the incumbents in the Soviet Union did. And considering how unpopular Congress is this just shows how corrupt our system is.
No Doug does not have the job as long as he wants, he has to be elected like anyone running for the position every 4 years.
I knew Doug got special treatment! He only has to run every 4 years, not every 2 like all the rest of the congress critters in the House.

Tina,
Thank you for the nice comment to Colleen. She is Joe’s mother and of course his biggest supporter. Not everyone understands the political field but God Bless everyone who gets involved with the intentions of making things better.
I also just want to say thanks to Jack as well for endorsing Joe Montes for Congress. I’ve gotten to know Joe this last few years and he is an impressive man who wants to break the Washington DC power structure, serve two or three terms, and then come home. It’s time we all started looking for new leaders who will break the mold.
Hi Jack I just read your comment on Joe Montes…He’s great! I,m having a “gathering” for Joe in my wine tasting garden Tues May 17 give me a call and I’ll give you the particulars…it would be great if you could come by! 345-3850. Suzy Roach
I stopped by Foodies Café yesterday and got a really good sandwich to go. Got there just before they opened and Boyed was so nice he took my order anyway. He said he made really good biscuits and gravy so will have to find out this weekend if they’re as good as my dad’s.
Boyed is also a big Joe Montes fan and I was able to talk for a few minutes about him. I even left with his phone number and plan to give him a call. Today in the mail I received a letter from him and my sample ballot. Mr. Montes’ statement says he will serve no more than 6 years.
This is a good one. Enjoy.
THE HAIRCUT
Blessed are those that can give without remembering, and take without forgetting.
One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I can not accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The Congressman was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.
And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
As Ronald Reagan said:
BOTH POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!
