Whether you vote for Bernie Sanders or the official Democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton, the economic result for individual Americans will be the same, a sluggish stagnant economy and wages, small business losses, scarcity of good jobs, and shared misery. Cliff Kincaid addresses this vital issue at Accuracy in Media today. Here’s an excerpt:
The media have given the misleading impression that the policies of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a self-declared socialist, are radically different than those of President Obama or Hillary Clinton. In reality, they all propose to use government power to control the economy by either confiscating the assets of private firms or running them out of business.
Technically, this may be fascism, rather than socialism. But the totalitarian nature of what is taking place is unprecedented in American history. America is becoming a socialist state that not only determines the fate of private industry, but attempts to control what people think and read about important public policy issues.
In Venezuela, which is admittedly ruled by a socialist regime, an iconic firm called Empresas Polar, which provides everything from pasta to beer, is suffering under government price controls and regulations, and has been declared an enemy of the state. The Wall Street Journal has been covering the fate of this firm in detail in a dramatic series of articles.
Here, the problem is actually worse. Rather than targeting just one firm, the Obama administration has been seeking to destroy the entire coal industry, along with the jobs of tens of thousands of workers that the old-style Marxists used to claim to represent. In their latest move, “the Obama Administration is giving the industry its last rites by halting new coal leases on federal lands where mining is still profitable,” the Journal noted.
The job situation won’t change as long as our nation continues to elect people who believe the growth and survival of government is more important than the growth and survival of individuals and the businesses that hire them.
Hillary will claim that her husbands record of economic growth and jobs means she will be able to do the same, and she will, but only if she abandons her economic and redistribution policies and works with the republican congress to cut taxes and regulation. The people, not the bureaucrats in Washington, are the engine that drives a robust economy and they can;t do that when they are being overburdened by high taxation and expensive, restrictive, unreasonable regulations.
The republican congress is ready and prepared to jump-start our economy and increase job opportunities by unleashing the power and might of individual Americans. All they need is a president that will work with them to “Make America great Again!”
Oh, geez. If you google Accuracy in Media, you get Wiki, Ethics, Right Wing to pick from.
Did I need to research further? Alas, no.
Individual Americans need taxpayer funded access to education whether they, individually, can afford it or not; access to healthcare whether they can afford it or not; and a minimum wage that allows them to participate in the retail economy.
And you know what? We could conceivably ge this from a Trump administration. Does that blow your mind?
“Did I need to research further? Alas, no.”
Right. You are more interested in being a tool for progressive power than educating yourself.
Individual Americans “need,” Whaaaaaaaa!
You see adult human beings as infants that have no recourse but to depend on the generosity of others. The problem with that model is that it is very very expensive, not only to individuals as taxpayers but to individuals as consumers. Government funded everything adds layers and layers of costs and ultimately leads to massive debt.
When Individuals went directly to the source they paid for the products and services they wished or needed to purchase. When government gets involved the product or service contains the added cost of collecting and distributing funds, monitoring and evaluating the service, and deciding who is worthy and who is not. When the perception is that “the government pays,” the people experience the service as “free” and they change their behaviors accordingly. costs, fraud, and abuse go up and the people end up paying more for the service AND more in taxes to provide the service. If this scheme grows big enough, with government “providing” anything the people “need,” then the people who create jobs, create wealth, and pay taxes will alter their behaviors too. Working and investing will not be worth it when your neighbor can sit on his butt and drink beer all day while you work and eight hour day to give his kid a college education your kid doesn’t qualify for because you have a job!
‘We could conceivably get this in a Trump administration’ may be your favorite fantasy but it is just a fantasy…at least as YOU would visualize it. There’s a good way of doing things and a bad way of doing things. We can see what the bad way delivers, we’ve lived it for eight years:
Eight trillion in new debt and climbing
More people not working and living in poverty
Sky high corporate profits
More business failing than new business created
Job creation is mostly part time and sluggish
Growth rate over the first 25 quarters under Reagan was 34% versus 14.3% under Obama. (Dismal 2% average GDP)
Loss of income…an average growth rate of 4% would have yielded at least $3.4 thousand after tax income per person per year.
Government has grown in control and wealth due to Democrat policies for decades. You liberals think the power to take money from one to give to another…to pick winners and losers…works. But ultimately it doesn’t work for anyone when prices are driven higher and access to services is merely shifted from one group to another. All the while the rich grow rich but have no desire to invest in things that would offer good jobs, keep prices lower, and serve the public indiscriminately.
If we dial back government involvement we will unleash the American spirit, inspiring independence and forcing competition among colleges, healthcare givers, and businesses that will make prices affordable. Whatever safety net we provide the truly needy capable should be offered a helping hand, not a hammock!
The American spirit is perfectly healthy, but would be healthier is people were educated to capacity, physically and mentally fit, and in a position to recreate now and then.
What you want to unleash is selfishness, exploitation and greed, and how you can think they are in any way constrained is beyond me.
And I wish you’d quit posting bogus statistics. The economic consequences of any administration’s policies do not manifest immediately. Obama is dealing with the legacies of Reagan, Clinton, and both Bushes … and that is some DEEP, DEEP, DEEP Doo-Doo.
Put a Repug back in the White House and we’ll be up to our necks again in record time.
“What you want to unleash is selfishness, exploitation and greed”
I’ve heard this empty accusation a million times but I’ve never seen any proof that your attitude toward your fellow citizens who start businesses and provide jobs is valid or even vaguely accurate. It’s made up leftist hatred and crappola.
“The economic consequences of any administration’s policies do not manifest immediately.”
Yeah Ithink I wrote that when you tried to hang the Clinton recession on Bush . But come on Libby…seven years?
“Obama is dealing with the legacies of Reagan, Clinton, and both Bushes”
Poor man!
Oh how he’s “dealt. Our debt nearly doubled under his watch and the rich got richer. people can;t find work, college kids are moving back home with mom and dad, businesses fail more often than succeed, misery is up…AND ITS BEEN SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS!
“we’ll be up to our necks again”
Yeah…the recovery will finally fully arrive and we’ll be knee deep in prosperity.
It was about this time in 08 that you derided me for being partisan. At least I admitted being very disappointed by spending. Neither you nor your prezi are willing to admit to any faults.
With Democrats it’s always someone else’s fault.
Re : “Did I need to research further? Alas, no.”
Right. You are more interested in being a tool for progressive power than educating yourself.
Yep, “progressive tool” sums up Libby perfectly.
Well, if “ethics” had been listed behind “right wing” … I might have exerted myself, but it was not.
Whether you vote for Bernie Sanders or the official Democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton, the economic result for individual Americans will be the same, a sluggish stagnant economy and wages, small business losses, scarcity of good jobs, and shared misery.
Well, you got the part about business losses, scarcity of good jobs, and shared misery. The rest is understatement.
This country and the world economy is in for a day of reckoning the likes of which the world has never seen. The largest debt bubble in history is about to pop. The coming economic whirlwind will be an economic disaster of unprecedented scale. Financial devastation will envelop the world much of the world population will not survive and the living will envy the dead.
Each immigrant our gooberment takes in costs 20,000 dollars just to settle. That is just a tiny down payment as these people cost a fortune in welfare. Most will probably never pay enough back in taxes for the gooberment to break even. And the gooberment will take in hundreds of thousands of immigrants. You tax suckers better get back to work to pay for all this. Make America Syria again!

Bob, you don’t take the Washington Examiner’s word for anything.
But never mind that. Can you really not put yourself in the position of someone whose country has been ripped into highly disfunctional pieces? Are you really, on a human to human level, going to be so petty about this? Especially when you consider our not insignificant contribution to the disfunction.
Germany, a country with a population one quarter of ours has pledged to take in a million refugees. I don’t know about you, but the petty, venal, squeamishness of our Congress makes me mortally ashamed.
Where will they, or the people of any nation on earth go, if no one stands for liberty?
Refusing to take them in, because it’s gonna cost us some, is “standing for Liberty”?
There should never have been this “them” in the first place.
Hillary and Obama created chaos in the ME and the result is all of these refugees. We cannot take in the entire world and even if we did the war would follow them to our shores. Liberty will die here, as it’s dying in Europe, if we open the gates to hoards of un-assimilated people in a short period of time.
The ultimate remedy is to defeat the terrorists and return the land to the people. Your team has complicated that scenario by an arrogant incompetent turning away from that goal, sucking up to terrorist nations, and by meddling in a counterproductive, fruitless manner. Now our liberty and the liberty for people in Europe is threatened…wake up, lady.
“Hillary and Obama created chaos in the ME ….”
Do,do,do,do
Do,do,do,do
You have entered the Twilight Zone!
Where, among other things, people refuse to deal with the issue at hand: how does the petty, venal and squeamish refusal to take in more than a relative handful of refugees square with “standing for Liberty”?
