Pay to Play: On Hillary Clinton’s Watch State Department Grants to Laureate ” Exploded”

Posted by Tina

Records indicate that while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, and her Husband served as honorary chancellor of Laureate University, State Department grants to the Laureate exploded:

Laureate is a for-profit online college that received an unusually large amount of money from the U.S. State Department. This happened while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state and after her husband Bill was named “honorary chancellor,” a position that paid him $16.5 million over five years. His role included giving speeches around the world and lending his name to attract prospective students.

During the time, when Bill was acting as honorary chancellor, the U.S. State Department, under Secretary Clinton, gave Laureate Education a whopping $55 million in grants. Laureate Education had also received some grants under the George W. Bush administration, but the numbers exploded after the Clintons became involved. …

…Like Trump University, Laureate Education has also been sued for fraud. Its Walden University Online subsidiary allegedly “worked like a scam designed to bilk students of tens of thousands of dollars for degrees,” according to liberal professor Jonathan Turley, who recently documented the organization’s ties to the Clintons. “Students alleged that they were repeatedly delayed and given added costs as they tried to secure degrees, leaving them deeply in debt. Sound familiar?

A class action suit brought against Laureate by ripped off students was dismissed in 2015:

two students in the doctoral and master’s degree programs at Walden University, which is owned by Laureate, filed the lawsuit with the intention of bringing a class-action suit against the company, alleging that its focus on marketing, profit, and rapid growth unnecessarily drag out time-to-degree, therefore forcing students to pay more tuition.

The complaint also points out that Walden nets significant profits—$101 million from 2006 to 2009—and spends much more on marketing ($2,230 per student) than on instruction (only $1,574 per student).

The university released a statement citing its low cohort default rates and career successes of alumni. It also noted the “long and rigorous process” of earning a doctoral degree.

The lawsuit, in turn, argues the master’s dissertation process is “plagued by lack of institutional oversight and a complete disregard for Walden University’s own policies.” Because a majority of Walden’s degrees are at the graduate level, a significant portion of its student population could participate in the class-action suit.

Although a 2009 Senate report on for-profit education colleges named Laureate “perhaps the best” of the schools examined, the company has faced controversy in other countries. One of its schools in Chile lost accreditation, and students in Brazil reported a drop in their schools’ quality once the education company acquired them.

Politics? Some Imply that could be the case given the similar circumstances and highly unethical appearance of quid pro quo:

In 2014, the Washington Post noted how Laureate Education became an international success thanks to the Clintons, and included criticism that the institution was “turbocharging” enrollment without making additional investments in academics.

Turley also pointed out that, as was discovered in Hillary’s email scandal, the former secretary of state requested the inclusion of Laureate Education at a high-profile policy dinner just months before her husband Bill was named honorary chancellor and began raking in the dough.

And like other Clinton scandals, it appears Laureate Education was above the law, skirting “gainful employment” regulations by having a large number of schools outside the U.S. with students that did not receive federal aid. Still, “five out of its six U.S. campuses are on a list of 544 schools the Department of Education is monitoring over concerns about shaky finances or regulatory compliance,” according to MarketWatch.

“Moreover, there are distinctions that can be drawn with a university like Trump that is based entirely on the presumptive nominee and his promises in advertising,” Turley wrote. “However, the money given to the Clintons, the involvement of the State Department, and the claims of fraud make this an obviously significant story in my view. The ridiculous amount of money given to Clinton alone raises legitimate questions.”

Looks like all we have to do to discover how corrupt Hillary Clinton has been is watch what her surrogates do and say to try to “discredit” Trump.

What’s that little kids saying, “I’m rubber you’re glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.”

In the case of Bill and Hillary getting stuck is long over due.

  1. Libby says:

Well, I’d get excited, except this sort of thing is SOP among the powers. I remember, quite some long, long time ago regaling you with the tale of Casper Weinberger and Golden Gate University.

They tell themselves they’re doing good. I just don’t see where they need $3.3 million a year to do good, especially if it comes out of our pockets.

And, Peggy, see … the WaPo is doing its job.

However, I’m tell in’ ya, The ELE is not putting a stop to this. If we really want to put a stop to this, it’s time for the torches and pitchforks.

    • dewster says:

The pitchforks and torches are waiting. People are at a Breaking point trust me.
The level of vulture capitalism is unprecedented.

    • Peggy says:

Hey Libs, how about putting your double standards aside and ask Hillary to account for the missing $6 BILLION that went missing from the State Dept. while she was Sec. of State? While you libs Lib ever admit your party’s leaders are corrupt to the core or will you continue to believe they can walk on water because they have a “D” after their name?

Remember Libs she said they were broke when her a Bill moved out of the WH taking $200k worth of items that didn’t belong to them and were $500k in debt. Yet, just 7 years later they’ve been able to rake in $150 million.

Is it really beyond your ability to not ask how and where did all of that money come from? And is it not possible that it came from taxpayers by transferring funds from one dept. account to another making it impossible to track and trace? With all of the homeless, dying vets and suffering going on in America I believe you should join in asking where that money went and into whose pocket/s did it go?

$6 Bil Vanishes From State Dept. Under Hillary Clinton:

“In a mind-boggling example of how the government blows—or perhaps steals—our tax dollars, billions vanished from the U.S. State Department mostly while Hillary Clinton ran it, according to a new alert issued by the agency’s inspector general.

Could the former Secretary of State be using the cash to fund an upcoming presidential campaign? In all, $6 billion are missing and it’s highly unlikely any of the money will ever be recovered. The cash was supposed to be used to pay contractors but it just disappeared and documents that could help track the dough cannot be located. How convenient! The paper trail, which federal law says must be maintained in the case of government contracts, has been destroyed or was never created to begin with.

How could this possibly happen? Like a lot of government agencies, outside contracts are a free-for-all at the State Department with virtually no oversight. Hundreds of millions of dollars are doled out annually for a variety of services and no one bothers to follow up on the deals. This “exposes the department to significant financial risk,” according to the State Department Inspector General, which issued a special management alert this month outlining the lost $6 billion. The watchdog further writes that “it creates conditions conducive to fraud, as corrupt individuals may attempt to conceal evidence of illicit behavior by omitting key documents from the contract file.”

      • Libby says:

Peggy, you are not even trying.

Do I have to bring up the squandering, profiteering rampage of theft and ineptitiude that was the Iraq war?

        Do I?

The initial after the administration is indeed not the point, but you continue to be distracted by it, and from getting to root causes.

        • Peggy says:

The Iraq war?! Really?!! You are referring to the one Hillary voted to support AND to fund, aren’t you.

You are talking about the profiteering she’s done with every foreign middle east country that’s gov’t, business leaders and those in positions of power have “donated” to her family’s foundation, right? Or are you referring to Bill’s speaking fees that increased during her reign as SoS, while other past president’s fees went down?

The root cause is our gov’t is corrupt. It’s the degree of greed and corruption that marks the individual and the political party they represent.

According to this WaPo article (Yup, doing their job.) the Bushes had between $9-24 million when he took office. Another article says their net worth is around $35 million today. A BIG difference than the $150 mil the broke Clintons amassed from speaking fees and other nefarious means.

Bush May Have Lost Wealth During His Presidency:

          http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/15/AR2008051503534.html

Haven’t heard any scandals about Bush being under FBI investigation for criminal activities related to his wealth accumulation, but hear about Hillary’s act every day.

          • Libby says:

If you are in the office (Shrub), your money is in trust, and a decline in the markets can result in a decline in your wealth. I do seem to recall that there was a decline.

If you are not in the office (Bubba), you can finagle income to your heart’s delight.

You people are all coming unhinged. I take it all back. You just clutch that partisan paranoia to your bosoms and have a good long sleep.

      • Dewster says:

Hey Peggy when are you going to admit the system is full of criminals and they come in both flavors red and blue. When are you going to join the people in the long hard uphill battle to take it back?

No you are just going to pick a side and play into the game that allow the corruption to exist right?

Those who do nothing should not interfere with those who are fighting for Justice.

May both the Dem and Rep parties go up in flames is what I say.

      • Chris says:

Peggy, your claim that Hilary Clinton stole 200k from the White House isn’t true.

        http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2015/oct/01/viral-image/viral-image-wrongly-accuses-clinton-stealing/

I wouldn’t trust anything from Judicial Watch, which has misled the public and misrepresented numbers to further their conservative agenda numerous times. I was unable to find a fact check contradicting their claims but I was also unable to find any source confirming them that did not cite JW directly. Until I can find independent confirmation I would not believe them, as they are not a credible source.

Finally, the claim that Hillary Clinton voted in favor of the Iraq War is true, but context is needed to understand the vote. Bush claimed that if authorization was given to use force, this could be used to pressure Saddam into letting the UN inspectors back in. Clinton claims that this is why she voted in favor of the best resolution. She was very clear on this at the time and said the vote was one of the hardest decisions she had ever had to make:

“If we get the resolution the president seeks, and Saddam complies,” Clinton added, “disarmament can proceed and the threat can be eliminated. … If we get the resolution and Saddam does not comply, we can attack him with far more support and legitimacy than we would have otherwise.” This international support is “crucial,” she added, because, “after shots are fired and bombs are dropped, not all consequences are predictable.”

Then came, from today’s vantage, the key passage: “Even though the resolution before the Senate is not as strong as I would like in requiring the diplomatic route first … I take the president at his word that he will try hard to pass a United Nations resolution and seek to avoid war, if possible. Because bipartisan support for this resolution makes success in the United Nations more likely and war less likely—and because a good faith effort by the United States, even if it fails, will bring more allies and legitimacy to our cause—I have concluded, after careful and serious consideration, that a vote for the resolution best serves the security of our nation. If we were to defeat this resolution or pass it with only a few Democrats, I am concerned that those who want to pretend this problem will go away with delay will oppose any United Nations resolution calling for unrestricted inspections.

        http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/war_stories/2016/02/hillary_clinton_told_the_truth_about_her_iraq_war_vote.html

But as we all know, Bush didn’t stick to his word, and chose to invade without giving the UN inspectors enough time. Many in Congress shared Clinton’s frustration and said they had expected Bush to get the UN’s approval before heading into war. That didn’t happen, and America lost a lot of support around the world because of this. So Clinton was wrong to vote the way she did, but exactly right about what the consequences would be to our country and the world at large if Bush went in without global support.

  2. Tina says:

It may come to that. You liberals could he;p prevent that if you would just drop the double standard.

We in the citizenry may yammer back and forth in partisan fashion as citizens but when it comes to the powers that be, more often than not, the media lets Democrats off, stifling outrage in the public, pushing excuses while Republicans are run out of town, deeply marginalized, and/or prosecuted (In court or the public arena).

We also need to get clear about the laws and whether or not laws have actually been broken, as opposed to reacting to activists’ trumped up charges. The Iraq war, for instance, was not an “illegal war” but you’d never know it from the press coverage.

    • Dewster says:

LOL Tina you and your silly Left / Right Crap.

You have shucked your responsibility as a constitutional citizen. These wars are no more than the corporate imperialist army seeking power and profit.

They all let each other off. PBO gave GW Immunity. PBO needs the next president to give him immunity ( Drones striking on Metadata).

The corruption is vast. There are 2 sets of rules.

Us so called Liberals are pushing for Justice. You just play the GOP game. Yes you. Trump is not a successful Businessman of merits. Trump is a nut job. Trump is a Liar. Trump makes bad biz deals. Yet you are campaigning for him?

Hillary is the ring leader of a circle of corporate vultures. I will say that right out loud! SHe is establishment.

Both of them are so far detached from real people they have not a clue.

Corporate Democratic Party is not Liberal. As the GOP was taken over to the extreme Right of authoritarian fascism the left has moved right.

Look at HRC’s Logo. That is The GOLDWATER ARROW> pointing to the right.

Look outside the box. Both Parties have to go. This is a game of controlled opposition. The elections are theater. Who can cheat better?

The world is told the only choice is more austerity and more wars. The very people telling us that are seeing their wealth grow at an unprecedented rate.

Yea everything wrong is those stupid liberals. The conservatives are saints.

You will never be able to help sole our problems as long as you play the game.

We are entering a point in History where we soon will have no more say.

      • Tina says:

“These wars are no more than the corporate imperialist army seeking power and profit.”

Ignorant tool! To you it’s about a puppet master hiding behind the curtain…no real evil in the world, just games.

I give you Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Leonid Brezhnev, Hirohito, Tojo, Mussolini, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, Khmer Rouge, Idi Amin, Augusto Pinochet, Papa Doc, Franco, Yahya Khan, Hussein, Mugabe, Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong-Il, Castro, Che, Chavez, bin Laden.

Our military had nearly decimated Al Qaeda and finally killed bin Laden. However, due to the very bad decisions of the last eight years we now face another ISIS whose threat, ISIS, that has grown in influence and reach, expanding across the globe.

Pull your head out! These are real threats. Profits are made building arms when we’d rather be building houses or clean water plants but those profits are necessary as a means of ENDING those who refuse to live in the world peacefully. The list of evil characters above are directly responsible for creating havoc and mayhem in the world and murdering millions and millions of people. The ONLY remedy is complete defeat of the evil, whatever it takes.

GWB led the fight to END Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. He deserves your respect, if not thanks, you moron. Without men like that in the world the murdering, tyrannical, profit seeking dictators would oppress us all.

“Us so called Liberals are pushing for Justice”

WHERE? Seriously, What serious action has any liberal taken to push for justice. Organized protest. What a joke. The anti-liberty anti-American leaders keep you busy while they work to install Hillary. It’s a classic socialist tactic in any “revolution.” You are a tool.

“Hillary is the ring leader of a circle of corporate vultures. I will say that right out loud! SHe is establishment.”

Hillary was an Alinsky accolite long before she started using fellow travelers in the socialist corporate world.

“Look at HRC’s Logo. That is The GOLDWATER ARROW> pointing to the right.”

There’s nothing conservative republican about Hillary. Her parents were supporters of Goldwater, she was a teenager. Then she went to Wellesley and Yale and her future as a Democrat activist was cemented.

        “Both Parties have to go.”

While I agree both parties have bad actors, weenies, and opportunists in them, I do not agree that eliminating the parties, as if you could pull that off, would solve the problem we face.

“The world is told the only choice is more austerity and more wars…”

No that isn’t the only message “the world” is told. The conservative message is grounded in individual liberty, justice and prosperity. Revolution and communal living, messages of the left, do not fit. I’d ask which you would prefer but, your ears are plugged with the propaganda of agitating revolutionary socialists. You are being used…you are a total tool!

Maybe it’s time YOU stepped out of the box.

    • Dewster says:

Tina Some of us want to take down all the political criminals. You have to realize they have taken over. The elections are rigged and has been for awhile.

So why not put aside differences and clean up the system. it is so far gone taking it back will not be easy.

They all think of this crap as business as usual in DC.

Let us get the dark money out and bring election reform.

Hillary has stolen the right to know who really won the Dem Primary and I have not a Clue how the heck Republicans allowed that Buffoon to take out every one of the other 16 Republicans. That is just crazy!

But in the end Both Candidates will be bad for the country. The people loose. And this time we will loose beyond your imagination with either one.

  3. Libby says:

“You liberals could he;p prevent that if you would just drop the double standard.”

Actually, we’ve all been waiting on you, Tina, for quite some time now. Is the WaPo letting Hils off? It’s nice to see you making progress, but we are not quite there yet, are we?

Dem versus Repug is a distraction. It is, and always has been, the monied versus the unmonied. And of course there are classes of monied. The truly entertaining aspect of … which crash was it? … the World Savings one, wherein the millionaires realized they had been screwed over by the billionaires. That was fun.

They’ve persuaded you that you are among the monied, a protected and worthy class, with an actual stake in the game. But you aren’t, and you don’t, and the sooner you realize it, the sooner we can get down to business.

Now, you guys with Trump, and us with the Bern have let it be known that we’ve just about had enough. I have to admit, you did a better job there. I don’t know, the global economic situation is soooo bad, I’m not sure what of substance can be done immediately, but I wanna see a gesture of substantial good will, soonish.

    • Libby says:

P.S.: What we’re likely to get, however, is WWIII, another distraction … because you are still not quite there … and you need to catch up, quick!

      • Tina says:

And where is “there?” The last eight years? Doubling down on the last eight years with 90% tax rates and “free” college? Withdrawing the only force in the world that can defeat the terrorist monsters?

        Where exactly is “there?”

        • Dewster says:

Tina I know you are old enough to remember Free College in CA. We educated our youth and got many innovations. Now we raise burger flippers.

90% Tax Rates…Hum when were they 90% oh yea Gen Eisenhower! The Republican President

You can not bomb an Ideology Tina. It grows the more you bomb it.

    • Tina says:

“It is, and always has been, the monied versus the unmonied.”

WRONG! That is the propaganda the above pieces of human slime (in comment to Dewey) use to fool people like you. They call their murderous rise to power a noble quest for “the people.” Once they get in power they oppress the people. All of them promise some version of socialism where the people will be happy and everyne will share “equally”. What they ALWAYS end up sharing is misery and suffering while the monstrous leader skims the money for himself. Independent nations like America dont fall easily. Look at Europe, they have moved down the path much faster than we but as nations, they are weakening quickly now. Many of them will soon be ripe for a dictator to take over.

Putin in Russia has accumulated vast sums of wealth for himself. Hugo Chavez’s daughter has all of the wealth he stole in Swiss bank accounts. The Cuban people live in a 1950’s world of poverty while the dictator brothers live in a palace. The North Koreans eat grass to survive while the fat little Un eats only the best! That is SOCIALISM!

“They’ve persuaded you that you are among the monied, a protected and worthy class, with an actual stake in the game. But you aren’t, and you don’t…”

Don’t presume to know me. You are always way off base and look incredibly stupid. I said on this blog long ago that the “monied” class live in a different world from you and I. I’m quite clear about my status as a middle class America. I am also clear that not all monied people are the monsters you portray them to be. THAT is pure tyrannical propaganda of the “revolution.” YOU, like Dewey, are a tool of the radical leftists who foment this trash talk. Hitler was to the “right” of Stalin only to the fractional degree that he disagreed with the communist about method. He was no George Washington nor was he a Ronald Reagan. You have a warped understanding of the nation you live in, and it’s value, thanks to the scum that push socialism in this nation and the opportunists that always hop aboard that train.

“… and the sooner you realize it, the sooner we can get down to business.”

What business? What have you, or Bernie proposed, that is different or positive?

Wake up…you are being used by forces within this country who want the only nation on earth that stands for individual rights, liberty, and prosperity for all to fall.

      • Libby says:

Well, that was a flail all over the road: Pooty, Stalin, Hugo, and Little Fatty … oh, and for good measure, Adolph.

Now, am I supposed to take any of it seriously? If you mean to put the O-man and Hils in this company (you don’t actually say), I’m sorry, that’s just silly.

And you know very well that your middle class standing is hanging by a thread. It probably was silly of me to think you were ready to rip off the blinders … “prosperity for all to fall”, indeed.

  4. J. Soden says:

The Clinton ca$h-grabbing and selling out the country is worse than any claim against TheDonald’s Trump U yet the Moron Stream Media ignore allegations against Demwits.

I like the torches & pitchforks idea, but it needs to apply to BOTH parties!

    • Dewster says:

      I finally agree with you!

Both parties here and now Pitchforks and Torches! The time has come for Americans to Unite and take the country back.

Trump has more than just the University scam but the Clinton Machine is the window to what all these foundations do.

All in all Hillary gets the #1 Sec of State award cause she sold more arms than anybody…That is what they do sell arms and create wars.

Funny how everyone of those countries she sold arms to donated to the Clinton Foundation too Eh?

Also Those speech fees are bribes. But do not leave Trump out he got 1.5 mil for a speech!

We are just seeing through the crack of how the elite launders money and their bribes. All in a seemingly normal looking legal fashion.

Come on people our country needs us to unite on the big issue. #Corruption

  5. Chris says:

Tina: “Our military had nearly decimated Al Qaeda and finally killed bin Laden. However, due to the very bad decisions of the last eight years we now face another ISIS whose threat, ISIS, that has grown in influence and reach, expanding across the globe…

GWB led the fight to END Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. He deserves your respect, if not thanks, you moron.”

Good god. Has it finally happened? Have you finally been able to convince yourself that bin Laden was killed under Bush, rather than Obama? I knew your powers of rewriting history were impressive, but this is a whole other level. Brava, Tina. Brava.

    • Tina says:

“Have you finally been able to convince yourself that bin Laden was killed under Bush, rather than Obama?”

D “OUR MILITARY” killed bin Laden and an operative led us to him (You know, like one of those people Hillary’s unsecured private server emails exposed? ) Obama just happened to be there to give the order.

GWB did LEAD the fight against Al Qaeda and bin Laden. Had been Laden been located on his watch he would have given the order to take him out without hesitation.

Obama has not been a leader, he has been an enabler! He has been reluctant and as they say, “led from behind.” He’s still leading from behind, even after two horrific attacks, one on each coast of this nation.

No more excuses. No more passing the buck. Obama (And Hillary) are responsible for the rise and spread of terrorists…of ISIS. Obama has not shown a strong determined front and WE are paying for it.

I have not rewritten history, you silly, silly boy.

      • Libby says:

Yes, Tina, you kinda did. And you do seem to be losing it, here. The O-man was Commander in Chief of the intelligence and military operation that killed Bin Laden. Fact.

And I’m not crowing. Presidency-wise, the man gets a solid “best-that-could-be-expected-in-the-circumstances.” Especially with you all as the chiefly obstructive circumstance.

  6. Chris says:

Tina: “D “OUR MILITARY” killed bin Laden and an operative led us to him (You know, like one of those people Hillary’s unsecured private server emails exposed? ) Obama just happened to be there to give the order.

GWB did LEAD the fight against Al Qaeda and bin Laden.”

This isn’t true. Bush spoke openly about bin Laden not being a priority under his administration; Obama spoke openly about making bin Laden a priority again under his own.

Now, you can fantasize that this was a cunning ploy by Bush to throw bin Laden off our trail, but that’s all it is: fantasizing. It’s fan fiction, with no evidence to support it.

“Had been Laden been located on his watch he would have given the order to take him out without hesitation.”

This would imply that Obama hesitated to take bin Laden out. Do you have any evidence to support that implication?

  7. Dewster says:

Oh Tina Tina Tina how many times did GW say he did not care where bin laden was. You are rewriting history in your head.

But hey here is my favorite GW moment. He tells the truth here

    “Money trumps Peace”
