Several companies have been working on bringing the driverless car to common use in America. Alphabet (Google), Uber and Tesla Motors all have models in the works. I had no idea they were already in use on our highways but a recent item in the news reports the first death involving a driver operating on “auto-pilot. His vehicle, the very snazzy Tesla Model S sedan, failed to distinguish the white side of a turning tractor trailer from the bright sky and instead of breaking the vehicle slid under the trailer. The driver of the rig observed the Tesla car’s “driver” was, “‘…playing Harry Potter on the TV screen” at the time of the crash and driving so quickly that ‘he went so fast through my trailer I didn’t see him.”’
The car makers knew this day was bound to come. The driver is advised that regardless the auto-pilot feature it is up to the driver to be observant as they would in any vehicle and be prepared to take over in case of trouble. All that is required to disengage the auto-pilot feature is grabbing the steering wheel. This former tech guy was a bit too confident and trusting for his own good. RIP
George Carlin would have a few choice words to say about this were he still alive.
You’re right Pie, he would have.
Do you suppose the poor guy had that “look at me” stuff going on with him? Dang, what an awful price for a little ego…or if not, light entertainment.
Hello Remember the Battery factory Story… Let’s Get Off 1st base
That home run was hit a couple of world series ago.
You’re still hanging around 1st base? Better get off the dime, son, it’s a whole new season.
This guy didn’t have anything to do with the Clintons, did he?
