In 2014, the story of a gang rape on campus netted investigative journalist Sabrina Erdley many accolades, but by 2016 the story ended in a $7.5 million dollar judgement against the magazine that published her false story. This is what happens when a reporter goes looking for a college gang rape story and then having found no story after searching for long time, jumps eagerly to write about a fantastic, almost unbelievable, tale by a self professed victim.
She was absolutely confident the young college men were guilty, so she didn’t bother to use the normal due diligence to cooberate the alleged victims story, a story that was later found to be full of gaping holes!

“Philadelphia-based reporter Sabrina Rubin Erdely has received international attention for her Rolling Stone article “A Rape on Campus,” telling of the gang rape of a student, identified only as “Jackie,” at a fraternity party at the University of Virginia.
The Spectator.org wrote, “The story the anonymous victim told was too perfect. It had all the elements that fit the politically correct narrative — frat boy villains as rapists, an indifferent college administration, and a helpless young woman who just couldn’t find justice or equality at a venerable institution of higher learning. It was all a lie and the reporter knew it was all a lie and she told the lie anyway and her publication printed it anyway.” end
After a series of news reports questioned Erdely’s work, Rolling Stone issued an apology citing unspecified discrepancies in the story.
“Because of the sensitive nature of Jackie’s story, we decided to honor her request not to contact the man she claimed orchestrated the attack on her, nor any of the men she claimed participated in the attack, for fear of retaliation against her. …
There now appear to be discrepancies in Jackie’s account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced.” Will Dana, editor Rolling Stone.
And here’s what happens when a reporter and a magazine acts recklessly and damages the reputations of innocent people:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va — A jury found writer Sabrina Erdely and Rolling Stone liable on multiple claims in a defamation suit based on a gang rape story the magazine later retracted.
The 10-member jury found journalist Sabrina Rubin Erdely was responsible for libel, with actual malice. Jurors also said Rolling Stone and its publisher were responsible for defaming University of Virginia administrator Nicole Eramo.
Eramo was seeking $7.5 million from the magazine over its portrayal of her in the 2014 story by Sabrina Rubin Erdely about the alleged sexual assault of a woman identified only as “Jackie.” Eramo claimed she was unfairly portrayed in the article as trying to sweep Jackie’s sexual assault under the rug in order to protect the university.
Among the statements in the article that Eramo claimed were defamatory was one in which she is quoted – through Jackie – as saying that the university doesn’t publish all of its statistics about sexual assault because “nobody wants to send their daughter to the rape school.” Eramo says that was fabricated by Jackie.
I still, really do wish that you perished real news once in a while:
WaPo: “The jurors reached a verdict Friday after deliberating across three days. Eramo has asked for $7.5 million in damages but now, following the verdict, can argue for a different amount. The argument for damages is scheduled to begin Monday.
Regardless of potential damages, the verdict showed the jury’s willingness to slam a major media outlet for the impact of getting a story wrong. Originally hailed as a brave triumph of reporting for its raw accounts of rape and attempts at bringing accountability to a storied public university, the article led to protests of the U-Va. administration, vandalism of a campus fraternity and outrage among activists trying to prevent sexual assault. Once its flaws were exposed, the article’s deeper message of the effects of campus rape — a pervasive national problem — was lost amid the allegations of shoddy reporting.”

There you go Libby, it’s not coming from a right-wing blog.
Rape is a serious crime and should be treated as such. This young woman managed to disrespect both herself and the seriousness of the crime. The journalist and the publication abetted her. Feminists who teach young women to hate men are also culpable.
Now, where do these innocent young men go to get their reputations back?
Good heavens, that was supposed to be “perused”.
Libby we re-post articles from many “real news” sources all the time, including the Washington Post. Your accusation is inaccurate…not to mention snarky!
Allow me to comment on this statement of
“I still, really do wish that you perished real news once in a while”
verses the revision of “Good heavens, that was supposed to be “perused”.
My My, talk about your basic Freudian slip,
especially when you are always so quick to attempt to falsely discredit another’s post.
My My indeed!,
Harold…good eye! Freudian slip alright!
Lippy hates Post Scripts so much she cannot stop reading it.

Muslim persecution forces convert from Islam to Christianity to flee home under armed guard…in the UK
A hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence.
This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence, both Sunni and Shi’ite. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the most renowned and prominent Muslim cleric in the world, has stated: “The Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-‘ashriyyah, Al-Ja’fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed.”
Qaradawi also once famously said: “If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today.”
…
A FATHER who said he suffered “seven years of persecution” has been forced to flee his home under armed guard amid fears for his safety.
Nissar Hussain was with his family when police arrived and moved him to a safe place.
Mr Hussain said the culmination of the “extreme persecution” had devastated his family and the dramatic arrival of armed police was a complete surprise.
“My family are distraught and extremely traumatised to be leaving,” said Mr Hussain.
“But when your life is at stake there is no other choice.”
Getting the attention of the Leftie Media sometimes requires hitting them in the wallet. Glad to hear that Rolling Stone joins Gawker in having to pay for irresponsibility.
And Erdely is no “investigative journalist.” Her phony story is similar to the dreck found daily in the NYT, and one must wonder if employment there was her eventual goal.
